I’ve a lovely ID mare that’s due to foal beginning of June . I’ve been contemplating putting a TB stallion on her next time . So why don’t you choose the stallion and buy the foal

I get that , but she doesn’t sound ready to me . Something to look forward to ?

Plus, you really don't know what the result would be! Whereas with the ex racer you have an idea of their general build, temperament, sex, color, or whatever else matters to you.

I just can't see that working here. There are tons of ex racers out there, and if one isn't in a rush, one can be a bit picky, the right one will come along. Or you'll change paths, on your own terms.

I have a promise from 5 trainers that they will find me a horse. I'm in no rush. When i find the right horse I will know because I won't be able to stop myself buying it. If that feeling doesn't arrive, I won't do it.

Now they are really rare! I've only ever seen one in real life.

All I'm saying is that you could get a Standie ex-racer for far less money than a TB, and Standies are technically TB types, and you're in the right part of the country for Standies, and Standies are more likely to stay sound than an TB, and don't you ever get bored of riding the same 3 gaits all the time...

Well if we're doing this.................i have a 3yr old dales filly, already significantly over height and I expect she will make 15.2hh+ when fully mature
And she's grey

I'm searching dragon driving every day, you don't have to sell me on a standie, Ludo's mum was a square trotter from Sweden. They're lovely but they don't seem to have the same network of trainers with 50 in the yard.

They do indeed! Flint was also an EPIC racing shetland! He was very rarely beaten!

Joe was a steal. I don't see anything like that standard of horse available at twice what he cost two years ago. Plus I already had my racehorse in Ludo, so he was a nice contrast.

I know this one isn’t suitable due to location and that you now have trainers on the case, but I’m trying to avoid doing my work and instead get my eye in for the sort of horse you might like (as a lot on this thread have done nothing for me but I know we all like something different and you have a better eye for conformation than me), would this type suit you if it was closer?

If she was close I would go and see her and hope that the long canon bones (puts the tendons under a lot of strain and long tendons can be weaker) were an issue with the photograph and that the slightly bent front legs at a point in the stride where I would expect them to be straight are just a photo captured at slightly the wrong moment and not suggestive of bilateral front foot problems.

Yes the ridden photo put me off a bit for that reason too. But something lovely about her expression in the stood up image. At least it looks like you and I see similar things so if I notice another nearer to you that I like I’ll shove it on here.
