Olympic Dressage - Thread 2!

anyone would think emma hindle was trained here the way the commentary is going on but i thought she was based in a foreign place

For a pure dressage newbie; Why is it that the likes of the Germans and the dutch seem to excel at dressage whilst, even though we can ride exactly the same horse quality or better, we don't seem to be able to touch them?

ah, that would explain alot thanks

its the mind set in this country, if they spennt a little less time whinging about the lack of horse powere and concentrated on geting the basics right we would be bettter off. its only been in the last five years that BD has even grasped the scales of training

Don't know why she was looking worried!

Apart that little blip in the first piaffe that looked like a lovely test.

Somebody just tell JLC not to keep saying "yup, yup, yup, yup" all the time though - she sounds like a chipmunk!

What a lovely test from Isabel... I didn't see Anky's, so cannot compare the two

Apart from that first piaffe when he kicked out at her leg, I thought it was a really beautiful test

Can you see a time in the near future where we can produce riders on home soil and expect them to test the Germans/Dutch each time?

Because in those countries people are taught to ride 'dressage' or correctly (however you want to put it), from day one. No galloping around on ponies picking up bad habits & being taught by no nothings at pony club, or at riding schools. Far more professional & structured. (just not as much fun & not everyone's cup of tea!)

MHB - Yes, with the money coming into the sport now we can begin to see Combinations like Emma and Lancet coming through.
The training methods are so different for the POny/Junior/YRs on the continent, so they have the advantage right from the word go!

Not a dressage expert but that last test by Isabel to me seemed so much more flowing and relaxed compared to Ankys. To be honest i acknowledged the fact Anky is one of the best but quite often her tests leave me unimpressed or do I mean unmoved espacially the last time I saw her do a test to music but there again what do i know.

And she is in 1st place, thought it was an outstanding test, definatly did deserve a higher mark than Anky especially over her last hault!

JF can you pleassseee stop putting a "U" in the word halt!

The thing is PW, that when Anky says to her horse to Piaffe for 12 steps, it Piaffes for 12 steps. Technically she is so correct!

I know what you are saying and I would agree, she is nearly always spot on, apart from halt today, but I seem to remember when she rode Bonfire she was still spot on but the tests seemed to inspire more, she seems not to perform anymore. I suppose as a spectator not a purist I just want to be entertained which is not the purpose of the competition. Am really looking forward to the dressage to music.

Cheers, GD. You've competed on the juniors/young riders (sorry, can't remember which or whether it was both!), did you see a marked change in how the younger team are being managed? Are they starting to mirror the continentals?

Let's face it, when tense that horse has never really halted properly. I have seen it 6 or 8 times at major championships, it never halts & as said early she still gets 4's & 5's. I wish i did when my horse mis behaved!!

Without a doubt, but absolutely no "soul" to her performance at all IMHO - I'm with PW, she makes me drift off and stop watching mostly.

I liked Isabel Werth's performance much more.
