Olympic Team Predictions

Just seen the dressage shortlist, a lot as expected but I was surprised to see Annabella Pidgley on it, I didn't think she'd competed Pumpkin that much, I'm the first to admit I've not followed them that closely though. Is anyone more in the know able to offer insight?
Me too, but looking at their results they are consistently achieving over 70% at internationals on the continent so probably a fairly reliable fourth team member option. I'd have thought Vamos Amigo is able to get higher scores but it looks like she's targeting U25s with him.

She does sound surprised herself on her instagram account - but with the huge advantage that Pumpkin has been there & done it under Charlotte.

I didn't think she'd competed him much either. In fact I was wondering until this year if he was sound!

Outside Carl and Charlotte squared I think Jagerbomb has the highest scores. Indigro and Gio are fairly similar (low-mid 70s). Classic Goldstrike's scores aren't inspiring but obviously Gareth Hughes has a load of experience on teams so might be viewed as a solid anchorman.

I'm not sure Susan Pape's horse has been tested against the Europeans? That would be a long shot for me, as would Diego V.

It’s more of a long list really, with 12 choices. I’d be extremely surprised if she was picked.

I just had a look too as I was curious. You're right, she has got fairly consistently over 70% at internationals but then she's only competed him at two shows (4 classes last year) and the same again this year, with lower placings this year than previously. I guess they know he can cope with the Olympics and after all he has already got Olympic medals so we know he can do it.

The top 3 for dressage can’t be anyone other than Carl and the Charlotte’s surely and of those the horses for me would be Imhotep, Fame and Glamourdale. The forth spot I think I’d take Becky. I don’t think you could rely on AP and Gio some of their tests have been a little on the edge to watch.

I'd agree with this I think (although don't know anything about Susan Pape?). I think Becky maybe has the edge. AP arguably has more international experience given her Junior and YR team stuff, but I think maybe just a bit too early for her this time round. She's got lots of horse power so I've no doubt we'll see her on plenty of senior teams in the future if she doesn't go this time.

Thanks for that Teapot, I kept seeing snippets of results on Facebook but haven’t seen the whole list. Interesting how the Germans have mainly gone 4* and the Brits 5*.

Tom McEwan has complained about his scores according to H&H article. Probably not a smart move as one of the judges will be at the olympics.

He said he thought it was a great test but fairly harshly marked, which I don’t think is complaining really?
And I don’t think any of the ground jury are the same as in Paris
“I was shocked when I came out with a 28 if I’m honest,” said Tom. “I’m super disappointed, it was poor by [the judges]."

The GB team hopefuls are in the 4* though, and it's full of Germans because it's seen as a national champs.

Ground jury for Paris are Christina Klingspor, Xavier Le Sauce, and Robert Stevenson, so yes one of them is there - Xavier Le Sauce.

From Eventing Nation:

I was shocked when I came out with a 28, if I’m honest,” he says. “I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve watched some really bang average tests this morning and they were getting 30s. So to then come out with something like that, I’m really disappointed in their marking, to be honest.”

‘Dubs’, he says, felt at his very best in the ring – at least as good as he had in tests such as Kronenberg’s CCI4*-S in March, where he received a 20.9, or at Kentucky this spring, where he earned a 24.6.

“He was balanced, soft, set up in every corner. I think maybe they’re looking for you to go ten to the dozen, maybe going flat out round it,” he muses. “I’ve got absolutely no idea, to be honest. It’s baffling, but it is what it is. He felt amazing, in comparison to other tests he’s done. Kronenberg was incredible, but to be honest, not that far different. That [Kronenberg test] probably showed a little bit more power in a few more bits. But for me, this was a much better test than at Kentucky. Kentucky was a little bit, like quick, whereas this was actually really together, so I was delighted with him.”

So H&H misquoted Tom? If so that's really poor.

On another note I always get the giggles when I see Xavier Le Sauce's name.

I feel they are there to make up numbers. I don’t think they have a realistic chance with Carl, Lottie and Charlotte having two each on the list. I hope Becky Moody makes 4th position.

Re Luhmuhlen 5* - Ros absolutely on fire, clear on Issac with 2.0 time pens. She'll lead overnight with second some 8.6pens behind.

Gah I wish I could watch but need to go do the horses!! It looks so wet, horrendous weather.

Awesome for Ros after badminton.

The French Eventing Facebook page were laughing that it was just a regular day for the Brits, weather wise, and they’re not wrong really, are they! Im in my coffee trailer in the pouring rain, having only had a handful of customers, wishing I’d not put the radiator away for summer! Nearly midsummer!!
