Olympic Team Predictions

Good choice for the Eventing team. I feel a bit sorry for Kitty, but I know they go by more that current form, so there may be a valid reason. Fingers crossed for a 🥇

It’s been interesting reading the French Eventing Facebook page’s opinion of the team. They generally think it’s a phenomenal, strong team that will be hard to beat. A few have mentioned that Laura’s and Yasmin’s horses can have errors.
They are a'trembling! Can't wait to see who the French team will be along with Aus and NZ of course. Astier Nicolas' Babylon has been ruled out which is a pity. So many strong teams will be going - never forget the Jungmeister.

'At 126 metres per jumping effort, riders have never been asked to tackle an Olympic track faster than in Paris and the multiple sharp turns and four water jumps will only accentuate the problem. I’m not quite sure where this sits with the FEI risk management policy!'

Am I reading that right (taken from Foggy's H&H column) that Paris is going to be even more intense and pin ball than Greenwich was?

Yes, I saw him in person last week and he said it is an untried test as so intense and the are 9 complete turn backs.
I can’t understand why they don’t take the only horse other than Walter who coped with that style of course at the Euros, IE Vendredi Biats

Has anyone else seen the BBC clip on Joe Stockdale's FB page? I'll try and post below:

I hadn't realised that Tim had been involved in picking Casharel.

My eyes are a bit damp after watching that...must be the hay fever...

I was chatting to Ivan the last time he was at the yard and he was saying he will go out to Paris to support Joe if he made it onto the team. He didn’t go to the Olympics when Tim rode because he left it too late to get a ticket, which he said he now regrets. It’s so nice that he will get the chance to go and support Joe now.

I just wish the BBC voice over didn't repeatedly refer to the horse as 'it'!
And stop going on about the emotion. We know it will be emotional for all involved but it’s a private thing. Please BBC, don’t let Clare Balding shove a microphone in Joe or his mums face at the Olympics and ask them how emotional they feel

I think we're being a bit harsh. Sadly personal stories resonate with the greater public across all walks of life, rather depressing, but it is what it is. I think the BBC are trying to engage outside of the equestrian world and that's a positive. Personally, I think it's a really lovely clip, beautifully filmed and super to see the BBC given the sport some coverage.

Useful doc for anyone going actually - I made the decision to sell my tickets and sit on the sofa with a picnic!

Ooo la la! - one of the owners for Nicolas Touzaint has publicly posted their dissapointment about their horse not being selected over his other mount, before the official team annoucement!

Whoa. They are mightly cross. Pulling him from being Nicolas's reserve too.

I don’t know.
I expect they are cross but it was worded professionally and I get their point.
They will have jumped through hoops to be on the list and now the horse isn’t going, personally as an owner I can see why they would want to prioritise an alternative competition schedule for the horse.

I agree, they haven't been rude or confrontational, it must be difficult when you've put a lot of effort into running the horse as directed to then be reserve and still expected to keep to their plan.
The english translation made me laugh though, "All the clairvoyants were in green" 🤣

For sure. Posting before the team was announced though makes me think they were as presumably that is not allowed..?

It’s the posting pre official announcement that isn’t the best I feel, regardless of completely fair intention.

Clarke’s dressage is better and he is quicker xc. Caroline is a lot slower xc and it will be a wild track with a lot of fences in a short amount of time so speed is of the essence. Time pens clock up quickly and will mitigate a good sjing horse if you end up with 8 time on xc…..

It wasn't Clarke I was thinking of.

Neither of Jonelle's horses look faster than Caroline's over the last 2-3 seasons and also don't have super dressage.
I also think it's extra mean giving Jonelle a direct reserve horse, making Caroline stepping in even less likely.
I know Jonelle is known as a fast rider herself and has lots of championship experience but it feels a bit 'old guard' to pick her ahead of Caroline on current form.

They have chosen the jockeys and not the horses… Falco is very hit and and miss but on a good day could win and on a bad day the team is doomed.
