For those who don't know Zoom.............I am gonna start at the beginning........
Zoom is a 13 year old ex-high-goal polo pony. At 6 years old, she lost her eye in a field accident. She then went to a lady to play horseball with. She rode her about 6 times a year but mainly Zoom just sat in the field. Two years ago, the lady moved away and I agreed to look after her on the condition I could use her when i wanted as a horse to accompany my mum on hacks. Monty was soon besotted with Zoom
18 months ago, I hadn't used Zoom much but Monty's legs had finally meant he was just a light-hack and the others at my field wanted to organise a holiday. We went to the New Forest for a week:
She jogged and jogged and jogged
She was completely fizzy and mad and my poor bum had no skin on it by the end!!
She then had some time off since her back was very sore........but her owner was reluctant to get a vet/back person so all I could do was rest her. I decided that I couldn't ride her in that crap saddle (it was REALLY ill-fitting) so when she was recovered, I got a saddle fitted which my friend very kindly gave me.
Cue a much happier pony (unsuprisingly!)
When I asked her owner if she could jump she said 'you'll never get that pony over a jump'. Well I thought I'd try so we started doing sponsored rides. She was mad and crazy and rearing the whole way round but we did it
I have only jumped five times in my life so September last year we were both crap!!
Already long story-short, we have practiced and practiced and I have schooled her most days for a year and we are getting there!
I was a REALLY nervous jumper and now we are jumping beastie jumps like this:
and this:
I took her to Chertsey show and she had never jumped a coloured pole.......she got a clear round! We got our first rosette and we got 5th in Turnout and Condition!
We had a go at dressage.................we are crap!
Our highest mark so far is 53% but I don't care, a year ago she couldn't walk or trot and had a neck like a banana!
We did a ODE...................and got eliminated in the dressage
But we were allowed to go round. We also went hunting yesterday
SO THE POINT OF THIS POST IS.....................a week ago, her owner called and said she wanted to take Zoom to a horseball thing
She was gone for a week and it really brings it home that she isn't mine. She hasn't ridden her in a year so I was a bit down
She is back home now and her owner called last night and said.................
'You know I haven't ridden her much this year so I'm going to sell her. I don't really want to take her to the sales so would you like her? I obviously don't want any money for her and you don't have to make a decision on the phone'
The decision was made on the phone.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPP!
I can't stop crying and smiling and crying again. Zoom is mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My perfect horse, my horse of lifetime, is all mine mine mine!
Amazing effort if you got to the bottom of this. I am one happy bunny! I still have to work out how I'm gonna afford two horses
But as my OH and mum have said, 'we'll work it out'
