OMG!! How many rugs?

I feel sooo much better now - although I am going to mole valley later so maybe I need another rug as my count seems a little low !

2 horses

1 waffle
1 stable rug
1 fleece
3 lightweight combo
3 mediumweight
1 exercise
2 lightweight

Would have loads more but up until 2 years ago I had a rug destroyer of a horse (seems to have stopped it now) but it did mean I never had to wash any - they just got binned after being repaired a few times

I've got 2 horses and have 12 rugs, I've just had a clear out and sold 10 on ebay!!! lol. No doubt those 10 Ive sold will be replaced....:D

My count of a mere sixty-odd for four neds now makes me feel so much better :rolleyes::D

my horse two rugs....

and it's not like she gets to wear them, she is made to live out and brave the cold with her bear coat! though she's being clipped this year so may have to let her wear them...;)

For 2 horses:

3 X fly rugs
2 X stable rugs
3 X rain sheets
2 X heavy turnouts
1 X lighter turnout
3 X rug liners
2 X cooler rugs
1 X thermatex
1 X newmarket
2 X exercise sheets

20 rugs for 2 horses- don't think that is too bad!

Only one rug was brand new as well so not spent huge £££s on them

Kali has 21 . . .

2x fly rugs
1x summer sheet
3x lightweight/rain sheets
2x MW turnout
3x HW turnout
2x thermatex (one has holes in it)
3x fleece
5x stable rugs (varying thickness)

plus two exercise/quarter sheets . . . one fleece and one hi viz. Honestly, it's ridiculous. I really don't want to think about how much that lot cost (he came with four of them).

Blimey - all you lot with so many rugs, how do you store them all? I'm a bit of a rug miser but still struggle to store the ones I do actually have!

including exercise sheets and fleeces I have about 100 for 2 horses - eek! Out of all of them I only have 2 shires and 2 WB, the rest are Rambos! I am however filtering through them and I've managed to kit my friend's new mare out with a new wardrobe!!!

Aaaah Yes storage?
Well I have a wonderful rug rack that my friends wonderful husband made for me it has eight arms, but cannot take ten rugs on each so I have old wheelie bins which store quite a few, but last year mr and mrs mousie had a lovely nest made out of my very expensive dress circle rug . Cant remember what it was called but was very heavy fleecy stuff and cost about £120 and now has a huge hole in its middle!!
Am looking for old chest freezers too as determined to lose no more!!

My husband went through my 'spare' rugs which had been kicking around the garage at home - 58! And 80% of mine are Rambo or Fal rugs, so you can imagine what they were worth. My excuse is I breed and rug my youngsters so have rugs of every size... :o

Husband was slighly appeased when I had a major blitz and sold most of those ones on eBay and got back several thousand quid.

I've now got about 12 rugs for the one horse I still keep! I still get laughed at by the YO for how many rugs I keep.. Ha! Little does she know how bad it REALLY once was :D

Inc exercise sheets, sweat rugs and fleeces we have about 30ish for 5 horses, and my mum is constantly going on at how we can have so many rugs, need to tell her about you lot!

I have 10 rugs for one horse:

2x fleece rugs
2x mw stable rugs
1x hw stable rug
1x under rug
1x fly rug
1x rain sheet
1x mw turn out
1x hw turn out

I feel very civilised by comparison! :D

The pony has:

1 heavy-weight turnout, which he wears about 5 times each winter when it's truly awful and he's shivering.
1 old patched turnout that leaks. He came with it, and it's around for emergency back-up or to pad harpsichords traveling in the spookyponymobile.
1 rain sheet, for truly awful days in the summer when he's shivering. Wore it about twice this summer.
1 red fleece, worn after endurance rides.
1 cooler, in case the fleece is wet. This one was a gift, so I can't be blamed for it!

It's a pretty decent wardrobe for an unclipped pony that lives out! :D

This thread is starting to worry me... my one horse seems to have rather a lot of rugs by the standards on here but I still NEED at least one probably two more. And I've hardly bought any! She has:
1 Pretty Ponies stable rug
1 Rhino stable rug
1 quilt type thingy
1 weatherbeeta fleece
1 Masta turnout, gone to be washed and mended ready for this winter but it really needs to be downgraded to a spare
1 purple turnout in poor shape that is only to be used as an under layer
1 absolutely trashed turnout that we use as a spare lightweight as the lining was so badly torn we cut it right out.
She came with those, I have actually bought
2 fly sheets, one of which is ripped and being saved just for the fittings
1 hi-viz exercise sheet
1 light weight turnout
5 fleeces (they were reduced to £4.99 so thought I'd get lots)

She also has an old fashioned string vest style sweat rug that OH had knocking around.

So I need a MW and HW turnout for this winter so that the others can be used as spares. Thinking about going for a Premier Equine Trio so that I have maximum flexibility and don't need to buy anything else...... but they are expensive......

Haha I must be the most nfair owner ever. My welsh cob has four (fleece, two medium weights and a lightweight) - my TBx mare on the other hand has about 25 (no exaggeration!). And I do genuinely use them all as well!

:o I was laughing at you all until I counted up all mine:

2 turnouts
1 quilt liner
1 fleece
1 wool travel rug
1 cotton sheet
3 exercise sheets
1 cooler
1 stable rug

how did that happen? And I only have one horse! And I could only sell 2 if pushed :o

wow thats loads! I have 1 fleece cooler, one fly rug, one show rug, one lightweight turnout and one mediumweight turnout. I give my old rugs away to charities etc. Hate seeing rescue horses go cold when I dont need to smany rugs!

I am a complete rug miser. I love it when people throw rugs away, which I think still have some wear in them or when I get old rugs 2nd hand for peanuts. I really resent the fact I shall have to buy a new l/w turnout this winter.
Anyway my 2 have between them:

2 full neck m/w turnouts (both left by ex liveries & conveniently the right size)
4 l/w turnouts, 1 bought 2nd hand for a tenner, one nicked off a mate, one 12 years old & needing replacing, 1 thrown away by departing livery.

1 fly rug
1 fleece
2 coolers
1 thermatex
1 stable rug

a couple of newmarket blankets which I like to look at

I have 9 - all of which came with pony:
1 x cotton sheet
1 x fleece
1 x stable rug with neck
1 x HW stable (no neck) - I don't use this one
1 x under rug with neck - I don't use this one
1 x LW T/O
1 x MW T/O half neck
1 x HW T/O full neck
1 x exercise sheet

Thinking of using the HW stable rug to insulate a water carrier over winter so it doesn't freeze (won't damage the rug - just in case)

My little old man (retired welshy - who lives out 24/7 usually without a rug until we get to NOV/DEC time) has double of everything, so i think he's got about 15/20 rugs.. and my girl (TB type who is quite hardy but is fully clipped so rugged up usually quite early on for winter) has 12 rugs.. her EXTRA EXTRA heavy weight rug costing nearly £200 i believe, however blame that my on my grandmother who has an obsession with buying rugs because "the poor little horses must be cold out there" - on a windy summers day... :p

Oh dear..is this what happens when you start rug shopping?

My boy had a fly rug (now destroyed after one season!) and I need to buy his winter wardrobe now...this could be dangerous!!
