.....Was pleasant :) But cold :(

At Vale today for N28 & N39. It's blowing a right gale up there!!! Me and PS were the first ones there (I'll explain in a moment) at 7.45am and it was McChilly. I wasn't on till mid and late morning, but didn't think it fair to expect perfect behaviour from Fig after a few months off competing when Vale is a, quite spooky b, very noisy when it's windy c, the classes were big so warm up would be busy. You know it's cold when me, the radiator, wears a jacket to warm up in

I needn't have worried. He was lovely. Really made me smile. Had a few stop and stare/rabbit in headlight moments at erm nothing in particular when I was first on. Asked him to stay rounder for this to really stretch the muscle behind his saddle. A few of the horses were finding the atmosphere spooky :sympathyspinks: and Fig duly ignored them, clever boy :) Back onto the lorry for 30 minutes, where he instantly started eating so I relaxed a little as he won't eat at all if he is stressed out. During this time I nearly knocked PS out with the lorry partition, apols darling sister if you have a black eye tomorrow :o

He came back out sweet, soft and concentrating. Had a few dodgy accidental 2 time changes, a few happy bucks (as pint sized as Fig is himself!) and one rather monumental slamtheanchorsonandspinroundatwarpspeed spook (one should not medium GALLOP towards another competitor when one does not know the left to left rule....). But other than that, couldn't fault him

First test felt really comfortable, really confident. It's a fairly standard test but he can mentally wander out of his 'zone' with all the long sides and long diagonals. His medium trot could have been better, but I knew if I pushed he would set his neck and poke his nose so I let him be. They're coming along really nice;y at home, and he did some lovely work in the warm up - starting to develop that push and lift, rather than scooting along the floor :)

Second test he felt a bit tired (but I'd rather have to kick than pull!), but everything was sweet and correct. We fumbled the second canter-trot-canter *puts hand up* my fault! Totally set my seat on him! And then he hopped in trot for a stride on the short diagonal, which was him anticipating. Little things. Little things that will be solved, and I won't tell him off for wanting to go forwards, because that's what I keep asking him to do!

Our biggest success of the day though....is that we actually did a free walk! Hurrah! In BOTH tests! None of this chompy BTV head up his butt lark. Got 7's for that and 8's for his medium walk, which is another huge improvement as that was tension riddled in 2012 :o In fact, the contact in general has been much better at home, I think the strength of his trot work is starting to seep into his canter work and he's able to maintain the activity and bounce now :)

Scores:
70.42% and 1st place for N28, and 65.17% and 3rd place for N39 which I believe is 9 points towards our 19 points required for the Summer Regionals :)

So; pleased with him, pleased with me (yes I will say that! I've felt dog miserable about my riding as of late!) and pleased with PS for getting out of bed and joining us up the road in Antarctica ;)

One of my kittens has run off with my creme egg and is batting it round my room, and the other one has knocked my sprite over. So no food on offer, but thanks for reading my idle ramblings :)

Fab results, great Figwig except for the spook!

Good luck, when do you need your regional points by? I'm sure you'll get them :)

Hope you've made PS a nice cuppa for dragging her along :) I always think its colder being the helper rather than the rider.

Or wine....

Sounds like a very successful start to the 2013 season! Well done to you and FigWig!

Where are you off to next?? When is Hartpury?!

Thanks! Yes, glad it went well, big weight off my mind!

Haha! Hartpury not until April :p Just got a few bog standard BD outings lined up, at Brooksby next week. PS on hols so dead easy for Father NMT to drop me off and then come fetch us again as only up the road!

Thanks! By 30th of June, so plenty of time but great that we're already under way!

I agree - no cuppa or wine but I reckon a diet coke will do the trick!

Fab results missus :)
Hopefully the year will carry on with the same success!

Aw thanks, me too :)

Woah...where did that neck come from? Steroids? (Him, not you of course!)

Looking gooood! Hope R and I can do even half as well as that in 2 weeks for our first!

Wow he is looking amazing! Can you post that second canter picture (the one where you are side on to camera) next to one form when you first had him? He certainly wont look like same horse. i can't believe how he has filled out - he doesn't look full TB on that picture! Big well done!!!!!!

I am new to CR and hoping to make a BD debut at some point in the next few years so I follow yours and PS' posts. Great start to 2013, it's a shame that someone inconsiderate put him off in the warm up though.

I sympathise with the coldness at Vale! Fantastic scores you must be very pleased. Fig looks fantastic.

Always seems a few degrees colder than everywhere else?! I am :) Thank you, he's really packed on some condition recently and has suddenly got a huge appetite!

Great first outing and scores, well done :)

Particularly like the second canter photo.

Thank you :) Yes, that's my favourite!

What a good start to the season! ...and get that creme egg back from the cat; cats don't need creme eggs! :D

Thanks! One of them ate a bit of the middle when offered, the other no likey!

Well done! He looks fab as always :) I almost didn't recognise him in some of the trot pics!

Thank you :) Aww that's good, he's such a fab little lad. Of course I have days where I could strangle him, but the good days far out weigh those.

I know, chunky monkey!!!

You'll be fine :) It's the lack of symmetry in N39 that throws me!

You mean like this?

He really doesn't, he was very poor when he arrived. But is just as genuine and happy go lucky today :)

Thanks :) It was a bit 'Did you HAVE to do that?!' at the time, but good practice for the future, he's a bit of a wimp around other horses in the warm and likes his own space, as do I, but it does us good to keep concentrating amidst warm up madness!

I actually managed to put on all of NMTs discarded clothing, over my own so I wasn't toooo cold!!!!!

Super proud sore nose sister!!!!

You had THREE fuzzy hoods :p

Sorry :o

This, wow, he looks so different! Bit of a topline going on there, looks suddenly a lot less like an ex racer!

:) I do like comparing old and new photos of him. He's just so much stronger. And looks 5 hands bigger!

Well done! :D He's looking great and what fab scores! Especially given the gale force conditions today! The spook picture did make me giggle though.. :p
Also love the transformation pics, he's looks to be so much stronger and more uphill

Well done!!!but do need a lot more pics than that...a vid would be nice...hint hint!!!

Thanks and lol you need better quality pics, stupid weather :(

Thank you :) He's such a silly sausage. I even shouted 'Fig you ****'

He looks fab!
So chunky!! What do you feed him? Have a scrawny tb type myself we are trying to muscle up!

Thanks :) Saracens releve + micronised linseed and a scoop of 50:50 alfalfa:mollichop mid day. Secret ingredient? Fenugreek powder. Had it recommended to me by a HHO-r and it's really made a huge difference. He's bloomed on it and it's increased his appetite loads :)

He looks really super in those pictures, really strong and correct. :)

Thanks SC :) He felt really grown up today! Very proud!

I know I said on fb but he looks like such a little hench man now! He will be getting fat if he carries on at this rate!

Fab scores but sorry I did have to laugh at the spook photos :D

Ahh we've got C on top spec conditioning cubes, balancer, speedi beet and hi fi molasses free (has fenugreek in). Have to be careful as she gets rather buzzy on feed!

He's blossomed tons since your last pics!! Looks amazing!

(I applogise hugely in advance if it wasn't you or this causes offence but I *think* you said on a thread looking back on 2012 that you were chuffed as you'd put weight on (i am not saying you needed to or not - its your body afterall) but i will say that it looks like your thighs have bulked a bit and look much better for it! Sounds a bit pervy but honestly it's because you look 'well' lol theres a big difference in your position etc from the comparison shots too! Again no offence intended And I know this isnt about your weight (i feel like im digging myself a huge hole here) but yeah!

He has chunked up hasn't he  Shh it's called show condition! (jokes, can't stand fat horses)

Fig is a proper hot head for feed, and gets heated up by most specific non heating feeds! Swap the speedi beat for grass nuts? The hi fi for alfalfa? What's the balancer? Is she on hay or haylage?

I had proper bone cold.

Alice Cooper is so on trend right now.... ;) :p

I felt like I was back 15 years old with eyeliner in big clumps, Goth NMT makes a return (oh yes, the rumors are true!).

The wind chill made my hands so so so cold!

love the last pic :p :D

What a superstar though, he is pretty awesome :D well done!

I know, he's so pretty when he rolls his eyes!

Thanks, I'm he continues this theme and that I've nailed his feed/exercise regime. Horses = expensive way to turn grey.

Lmao 'a bit pervy' Oh my, bless you! Yes that was me, think it was the achievements of 2012 thread? I do feel better for putting weight on - odd thing is, I love food, I really enjoy cooking....I'm just so darn lazy that it's easier to reach for a bag of crisps than something more nutritious. It got to the point where I was too knackered to ride effectively, and I can't expect Fig to lump me around and know what I'm asking :( Yes! I noticed my position too, admittedly I'm sitting very defensively as Fig was very sit, point and GO in the early days, but taking better care of myself and a new saddle has helped immensely!

Yes when you have the two pics next to each other like that - just does not look like same horse at all! You have done so well with him, do you think the fenugreek has helped build muscle with correct work? Mine is a bit weak at moment recovering from injury and time off and just coming back Into work, have her on lysine for protein but might look at fenugreek - do you have seeds or powder?

Ah phew! :-) tell me about it - spend half an hour cooking or make beans on toast in 5 - easy decisions lol!

I was really skinny at one point but the taunts were horrible hence the 'please don't be offended!'
