Pet hate - people riding ponies who take the P!

How sad to be so closed to alternative ideas and methods, I think when you get older you might be a little more tolerant, or not!

Are you aware of how pedantic that sounds? IMO, and I'm pretty sure that RP agrees with me, most of IH/NH is common sense anyway. As we have that already (along with well-behaved horses) we don't need to subscribe to the pre-packaged and merchandised ... stuff... Pat Parelli and others are peddling. The stuff that ISN'T common sense is at times silly and other times risky. I refer SPECIFICALLY to footage of PP jumping a foal over a log and Mrs Parelli, whose name I forget, advocating treating a biter (can link to fuglyhorseoftheday who agrees with me on this) so BASICALLY what this means is that we do not blindly accept whatever training method is popular/faddy at the time but make and informed choice based on what we already know about horses and their particular needs.

Shall I get the P word speech at the ready, Esme?

I wasn't going to go there. I thought i made myself clear in that, too many people do NH/P/AH etc wrong and then we all get a bad rep for trying anything new, or people are such devout followers they won't deviate when it hasn't worked.... All the people each have worked for get overlooked. I am not going to say about my experience with devout Paralli followers, its been done to death.

Ooo that sounded irritated, didn't mean it to.

Well that is their choice, my methods are my choice, I couldn't give a toss who else was using them or not, do what you like for me.
I have no objection to trying new things, I had an open mind and watched a few IH/AH demos, with my mother. I didn't like them and I thought they were no use to me. End of as far as I care.

I got introduced to HHO because there are meant to be people with great advice, and all I seem to see is arguing on this forum!

Nah, it's a true reflection on yard life. There's very often a big thread like this and then everyone is lovely to each other again. It's like soaps: a true reflection of life in the real world

I'm good too thank you, although my head hurts a bit from hitting it ont he wall so much

Just wanted to prove that two people with differing points of view (on NH) can be civil, even nice to each other!

Good of you Devonlass1.
grin.gif
You were only trying to help.

It's when people let horses get away with it that we end up with so many problem horses.

Devonlass is entitled to an opinion on what she sees or saw the same as you. If I was having a problem then I'd be glad someone offered to help. I suppose your one of those that rides by saying Oh mine does that sometimes?????

Your post smacks of someone who does not approve of Adults riding ponies, as a 14.2 rider and owner of some bigger ones, get off your high horse!! You do sound very much up your own and that your superior knowledge entitles you to judge this woman.

[/ QUOTE ]
I am sorry, where did you get that from, no where in the OP does it say anything about her dissapproving of adults riding ponies, does it!?

Arrgghhhhhh, for the six millionth time, Parelli is not the only AH school of thought out there and personally I am not a fan of it, but it's horses for courses! I do not slavishly follow any IH/AH method, I pick and chose what is good for me and back it up with 35 years of horse ownership and hopefully common sense!

When the thread takes a turn toward Parelli et al, you just know you're in for a long night.

Every one has their own way of working through problems with their animals! This lady may have had her own reasons for not following. I appreciate that help was offered but please don't take offence just because it wasn't needed. Doesn't mean she doesn't appreciate it. I have a friend that suffered severely from agrophobia buit getting a cob pony was the making of her, even though she was very nervous when meeting people out on a ride for a while!

OK, they arent for you, but they arent hopeless, they work for some, but by the sounds of things, you didnt bother to try them.

[/ QUOTE ]
No, I didn't, because I don't believe in them, that does not mean I am not well informed on the subject.
If I told you the way to load a horse was to whip it repeatedly (which I do not do) you wouldn't have to try it to say you didn't believe in it, or at least I hope you wouldn't.

[ QUOTE ]
It's probably because like it or not - you probably came across as a bit of a know-it-all...

Or maybe it was the fact you were riding and leading your racehorses (perhaps for a sheike (sp) whilst doing sudoku and the irish flaming jig upside down in your pants?

Sheesh - she may not be very good at hacking out but for all you know she could be a really good horsewoman in other respects...

[/ QUOTE ]

I have only got this far in the thread but that made me laugh me t**s off... so far so good

I never said he was. He's just the one I find most objectionable. Most of the rest of it is just common sense (as I said in my post) and we have that already.

Just saying. I know we all like to debate NH and the P word and any excuse etc etc but now can we please get back to PF and her merry men?

Rosie - I did not say you were uninformed, but you seem SO arrogant about the whole IH/AH/NH thing! Some people try it, and it works, it wasnt for you, thats OK! it doesnt mean you have to hate it tho does it?
