Pig Ugly Horses?

Right, so say that then?! Don't just post, practically insulting a horse and bigging yourself up. Horses mean a hell of a lot to the folk on this forum. The way you worded your post made you sound like a troll. If you're not, fantastic - please apologize to everybody who owns 'fat, ugly cobs' , if you are, go away.
 
I am actually 41 and not a teenager looking for something to match my nail varnish. Just wondered politely if anyone else has ever had a dilemma where they do not appreciate the looks of a horse even though it fulfills your expectations in other ways.

You're acting like you're 7/8. Insulting other people's horses is disgusting, rude and just downright nasty. You don't know them, you probably haven't seen them because you're a new poster. If you're to stay on the forum, I suggest you apologize and stop throwing tantrums.

i would. take "team fredricks" for example. lucinda fredricks on one episode of the show was talking about her horse Brit, she said she wasnt the most attractive of horses but she tried her heart out and was worth her weight in gold. google her ;) just cos the horse isnt pretty doesnt mean it cant do an amazing job.

fair enough if you dont think the horse you saw was pretty, but imagine the owner saw this! i dont think they would even consider selling their to you horse now!!

well i actually think liking the way your horse looks IS important! i wouldnt go to view a horse i didnt like the look of regardless of whether it fullfilled my criteria perfectly and i think its shallow to say it wouldnt be a factor in spending a hell of a lot of money to buy and keep a horse!!

You asked a forum full of horse obsessed people whether you should buy a horse that's perfect but looks 'pig ugly' therefore claiming looks are more important than the horse and the job it's to do. You can't seriously expect people to sit back and invite you into the forum with open arms..

No I don't think looks are everything. If its the right horse for you I'd suck it up and take it. You might never find it again.

Looks aren't everything, any horse can scrub up well in my eyes.
 
I don't know how you'd find yourself in that situation really - I suppose if you already know the horse. But with horses (and men!) I'd probably not get as far as finding out they're perfect if they didn't also appeal to me visually, since that's the first impression you get, and if it didn't appeal to me then I wouldn't be interested. Not vain I don't think, just personal preference.
 
Are you sure it will do the job you want it to do?

TBH, I'd wait and keep looking. Can you imagine if it disappoints in the work department, or worse, breaks down. Then you'd be left with a pig ugly field ornament you don't even like looking at.

Op take note, Floxie managed to phrase what you put in a kind, subtle way .. i probably wouldn't of been so erm ... evil :confused::D if you had put it nicely, but "pig ugly" that to me is wrong. No horse is "pig ugly" maybe not your cup of tea but to someone else that would be beautiful.
 
What is it you want to do with the horse?

My advice would be dont buy him. Someone will come along and fall in love with his beautiful face and appreciate his looks.

Some horses arent to my taste, but pig ugly is very harsh!
 
Thank you Archiepoo, I am planning to spend upward of 7 grand on a horse so it must meet all criteria, just wanted some opinions on the looks side of things but just got a lot of abuse for being vain and shallow. Although I bet most of the people who commented chose their own horse/cat/dog on looks as well as ability....
 
To be fair I don't think it was right that OP got jumped on as she did, her post since about fat ugly cobs is fair game but prior to that she had a genuine question.

I think the phrasing is quite emotive 'pig ugly' sounds very harsh...

If Op had posted to say that she had seen a perfect horse but unfortunately he isn't blessed in the looks department and is actually what some might consider quite ugly..... Then I don't think she would have got the same reception. In fact this question has been asked before and the OP of that post wasn't jumped up and down on.

I don't think the comments that the Op may be ugly herself were called for but that's just me.

OP, it is ok that you are considering his looks but it shouldn't in my opinion be a deciding factor. If he turns out to be the horse of a lifetime you will love every inch of his 'pig ugly' face :)

what a sweeping comment, didn't know you knew me so well :confused: My "ugly , fat cob" was brought because she hacks alone, is bombproof in traffic and was also a small project, her sweet personality captured my heart not her features.

well my horse was starved and scabby when i got him, certainly didnt know what he would look like when he was better :rolleyes:
and second, if youve got upward of 7 grand id leave that poor pony alone and go find something more appealing to your eye. theres plenty out there.
