Pig Ugly Horses?

Thank you Archiepoo, I am planning to spend upward of 7 grand on a horse so it must meet all criteria, just wanted some opinions on the looks side of things but just got a lot of abuse for being vain and shallow. Although I bet most of the people who commented chose their own horse/cat/dog on looks as well as ability....

In that case, i'd wait and find something that looks good and also works well. £7000 is a hell of alot of money for a horse so it'd better be near perfect. The way you worded you posts made you out to be vain and shallow. And naming your thread 'Pig Ugly Horses' isn't a great way to start.
People on here will be more willing to help if you apologize and start acting like a grown up and not your shoe-size!

I'll apologize for my comments if they came across as nasty but i'm being realistic.

Ok, pig ugly was an unfortunate phrase, I was just wanting to get across that I didn't particulary like his look. He is a diamond in every other way though.

There is a large market out there at the moment, if you are asking questions yourself, perhaps he isn't the one.

Goodluck with your search.

It is true, that most of us, including myself will have bought a horse because we thought he was beautiful, sometimes I think the only reason mines still here is because he's so god damn pretty. Sorry if I offended, but I honestly thought you weren't for real.

Right, well I agree that is was an unfortunate phrase. Perhaps if you think before you type you won't get the same heated reaction!
So he's a diamond in every other way, that's great. Realistically can you see yourself out competing and riding with him?

I bet you'll end up falling in love if you did buy him. Because personality just takes your heart!

Apology accepted.

Sorry all, you may not mind an ugly horse but I do.
I'm with whirlwind here.
My horses cost me a fortune in
time and money.
If I'm going to be looking at them most of the day, they need to please my eye. A coarse ugly horse is not for me I'm afraid.

And I also love fat cobs..in fact I own 2 of them with big roman noses and they are gorgeous!

In regards to your other post and this, i apologise for being so rude i think the aspect of it being over the interent and not seeing body language and tone etc. affects the way things are taken.

Well - if it's that important to you, look for another.
Having said that, one rather-less-than-handsome horse I groomed for was described by a very well known dressage judge as "looks like it should be pulling a cart".
Still, his very plain head, and big donkey ears managed to get themselves 2nd place at Burghley:)

In regards to my comments, yes they were not nice, if OP had phrased it better as you have pointed out, i doubt they would have been jumped on .

Bit did you mean Evil? It's ironic that have done exactly the same as the Op in this case, chosen an emotive word that you probably didn't quite mean. You can't have really thought she was 'evil' for calling a horse 'pig ugly'?

I second this, people can't read body language from behind a computer screen! So i'm sorry if we 'jumped' on you. Reading your opening post, I genuinally thought you were a troll and taking the P*.

No, Tessybear was calling herself 'evil' for being nasty to OP. ;)

No no, i meant it

MY rude comments, perhaps didn't word it very well :) <<<:o

Op. If you are spending 7k or £1 on a horse I think that is important to love everything about that horse. So if you feel he isn't much to look at then perhaps you are better looking elsewhere :)

I have a horse that is ugly - but he is honest and that means far more to me than looks. OK so he will not win a showing class but he will hack in heavy traffic and is the same whether you leave riding him for 3 days or 3 months, more than can be said for some of the "better" looking horses.

Oh, so close.

I was going to say that, whilst I don't like the description "pig ugly" in this context, I do think it's important to find your horse attractive. I bought all mine at least partly because I think they look fabulous in one way or another. Mind you, one's a HW cob and two are duns so perhaps I have no taste

But nobody should like fat cobs. Ever. The only appropriate response to a fat cob is "wouldn't it be lovely if somebody cared enough to put it on a diet". HW cobs, totally lovely. Fat cobs, welfare issue. (pedant thread this is)

Actually, I thought Neddy was an ugly blighter when I first saw him. I wanted anything but bay and something with a long mane! He's bay with a pathetic mane.
Now he's my best buddy in the whole entire world and I couldn't be more proud of him, he's gorgeous too, really come out of his shell :)

Also, I have never seen an ugly, dun, I don't know what you're talking about!

this, i think

me too

Ok, so there is something missing from Tb's post, if it goes in then I can see what you mean. As it stands she refers to the Op and then says 'I wouldn't have been so evil' suggesting that the Op was. Trust me I'm an English teacher, the sentence doesn't lend itself to your interpretation without the missing bits....

As you were.
