Plats in tails

Seeing as you mentioned them..........could I have your view on this chap? Do you think he's too fat?

Ooo very nice. Bet he's got a nice canter;)

The tack was just resting on him for effect - well ok it was nailed in place but it wasn't hurting him.

The runners are recycled fencing - one that talked back and regretted it

You use NAILS?! What era are you living in?! You need to read a bit more Fence and Post Weekly my dear! I use nothing but 'No Nails' for all of my fences. They are happier and it is far more natural for them. They haven't had a day's postiness, even on hard ground, ever since I made the transition.

Don't talk to me about "No Nails". Hubby used some of that to put on a skirting board - never mind no nails, it was no flippin' skirting board  Laid on the landing for 2 years with me tripping up over it every two minutes

Haha!! Isn't that just so typical of a bloke?! My OH leaves his trainers at the bottom of the stairs, in the middle of the floor right under the step. The amount of times I have gone flying is unbelievable, and yet he still does it! He and my dad also have a tendency to 'fix' things around the house, but then leave all the packaging or mess lying around on the floor afterwards!

Oh,oh I see, using diversion tactics are you ...
A fence is still out there suffering

Well I don't exactly see you rushing out of your nice cosy living room to rescue it?!! Hmmm, mmmm?!! No!

I note that you also live in Jam Butty Mines so how incredibly selfish of you not to take in one poor de-fence-less bit of wood when you have all of that yummy food on your doorstep! Tut.

Jam butty mines eh? Huh, I'd like to see the state of her pit props - poor things have never seen the light of day, I bet they've all gone blind

Oh god I never thought of that - imagine what the state of the runners/rails are like too?!! I bet they are all worn and weary from carrying endless amounts of butties! Right, who's up for taking my Mini to go and rescue them tomorrow first light?!!

Hi everyone! Just thought I'd let you all know that my fencelet is doing really well. I spent all day yesterday varnishing him and now he's gleaming. I tried to turn him out today at my local fence livery yard but all the other fences were really mean to him! Gave him splinters and he has a hole in him now where one nasty post stabbed him with a nail  it's okay though, I'm taking my axe up there later to get revenge for my poor little fencelet.

I never argue

A baby fencelet and she varnished it. Some people can't wait until the wood seasons can they? It's rush rush rush - they just can't be babies any more :(

Tonitot, you need to send it away to a sanding & planing yard before you ruin it, you're a disgrace. Incidentally my out props are in a lovely state, whereas after 28 pages of constructive advice you haven't solved the problem of your biting fence!

That's right. Why not turn it away to play in the fields with the other young fences?

Mind you, the racing industry have been varnishing fences much younger than that, for years.

Yes but you can't compare - we all know racing fences are designed and manufactured to withstand pressures at an early age.

A sensible owner would only be taking it to do a few 'decorative garden fence' classes at a local park level show, not varnishing away. No wonder there's so many older fences with kissing posts.

Don't you know anything about fence husbandry and ailments?!! It's not 'kissing posts' it's ' kissing gates' that are the big problem!

I'm sorry I thought I was doing right by my fencelet :( Here I am, a novice fence owner coming to this thread for advice on how to look after my fencelet and I make one mistake and get jumped on. I dont know why I bother coming to this forum anymore! Bunch of fencey know it alls

I'm afraid you would be better off, harsh though it sounds, having your fencelet pts. I would suggest a decent log burner or professional fireworks company. Please don't send this fencelet to a timber yard, it will only end up with it being passed from pillar to post.

Moomin I know more than you about fencing, only a novice would have gates in their fence, those of us who are EXPERIENCED would not want anything passing through our fence. Entering our bushes is another matter altogether.
