I'm going to make a confession here. I hunt and with my own eyes I've seen walls broken down! I haven't been responsible myself, I can say that but I feel perhaps I should have done more at the time.

My OH is always going on at me to keep my bush nice and trimmed but it's just such an effort to keep on top of it. Just because he seems to spend all day polishing his wood when he's meant to be working, he really does have too much spare time IMO!!!

Ollies mum- perhaps your own bush is straggling & unpruned at this time of year, but my local hunt have assured me they will have a route in my hedge anytime.

Oh tell me about it - my OH gets so frustrated when my bush gets overgrown that he has been known to threaten to smash the back doors in...

Surely trimming your bush is a job for the spring? Or should it be done in the autumn I can never remember. It would probably stunt it's growth if you did it too often or out of season?

Ollies mum, what was the quarry when you took your fence hunting, & did you jump over all the big horses? Or did you go round by the ponys?

Oh he shouldn't threaten to smash your back doors in! That really is out of order, all those splinters...eeewww

Well, exactly!! I was horrified by the suggestion! I knew that if a big post were rammed through my back doors then the damage would be unbelievable to say the least. I told him be more patient and if he is that bothered by my unruly bush then he should get the trimmers out himself and sort it!

I've just come in from trimming my bushes. I found the best course of action is a sturdy pair of gloves. Generally speaking, the largest bushes were the easiest to trim, I found that you get very quick results with minimal effort.

The smaller bushes are the biggest annoyances. You trim one side then the other then of course you find that you have trimmed one side too short and try to fix the other. Truly, the easiest way is just to remove the damn bush all together!! Granted you then have no wind break but sometimes you just have to make sacrifices.

As to the issue of dealing with your husbands branches, well it really comes down to the size of the branch. If we are just talking about a small to medium size branch a pair of secateurs will do the job. If he is insisting you take care of the whole damn tree though that is a different story. If you are feeling energetic go at it with an ax. However, if your morning coffee hasn't kicked in then simply start up the chainsaw. That will clear him out quicker than a shower of rain....

Hahaha this thread amused me.

I looked up plaits in manes and found this article from what I thought was quite an unexpected source:

http://www.paranormalmagazine.co.uk/2010/03/08/mane-attraction/

‘Not long ago I caught a young colt for the purpose of breaking it in. A servant who was assisting observed, “They have been riding this one right enough.” I asked, “Who?” “Well, the fairies.” “How do you know?” I asked him again. “Don’t you see how they have plaited the mane?” he replied; “they always do that when they have a ride.”

spooky :-/

Please may I have some CC for my fence, both for its condition and conformation.

I can't help but feel it should be a bit sturdier, I have also noticed that it leans an awful lot, should this fence not be more upright?

Oh ausipaliboi, is that you stood behind the fence?! How fetching you look! ;)

Can I suggest maybe the addition of strand of barbed wire just to be on the safe side? Possibly even a few rusty cars placed infront of it?

My OH's wood was a lot easier to handle this morning thanks to all of the fantastic advice given last night...

My OH even took the advice on board and got his big hose out to water my bush down...

Ausipaliboi. Your fence is on the forehand, you really need to get it working with its posts underneath it. It's really very simple, some know alls may suggest silly mending exercises, but it is much better to hold it in place with a de-gogue. I take it from the photo with your family your fence is a true family allrailer.
Mandwhy- I think its very rude to hijack a sensible thread with tales of fairies. Do they ride fences?

I wouldn't let a fairy ride my fence - how irresponsible! They are spoilt, bad tempered and have no will whatsoever to learn to ride a fence properly. There is no doubt that my fence would be pushed so far it would snap and there would be tears allround!

Here we go, people who think it's all about gadgets - fence tensioners, Met posts, stay wires, anti-rust staples - you name it a fence has to have it to stay up these days. What happened to softwood palings and a big hammer?

I read that article mandwhy, and the line I really like is the one which says the plaits "have been variously blamed on pagans, gypsies and rocking horse manufacturers.":D:D

Quick, run, the rocking horse manufacturers are coming, they may take our wooden fences! And don't want pagans in my bush either!

The tack was just resting on him for effect - well ok it was nailed in place but it wasn't hurting him.

The runners are recycled fencing - one that talked back and regretted it
