Please could you answer these few questions for me?

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

German Shorthaired Pointer

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Purchase

Why did you want a dog?

Always wanted one and thought one would fit easily into my lifestyle, would be a companion and we could offer a good life

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

probably eering on easier

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

no

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

yes!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

like the gundog temp, the build of HPRS, shorthair and I knew a GSP before. Wanted a dog good with horses and children. Medium/large. Didn't mind sex

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

puppy. Wanted to start from scratch and had the time for a puppy. Had fairly recently lost my old horse so also wanted something to mother to be honest!! GSP's are also not very common in rescues from what I can see

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

not a minute!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

prob would consider something that wasn't a gundog. Just not my type. Probably wouldn't have a spaniel either! Too manic! And I wouldn't do long hair....

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

I don't think anything out of the ordinary. Certainly nothing that when I got advise from wiser people wasn't quickly resolved!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Not a lot of choice with GSP litters (as in the aren't a huge number advertised)... But found one that was health tested, not other end of country, raised in home the way I wanted, show stock rather than working, and I also really clicked with the breeder! So much so that although I was far from the 1st person that called I had 1st pick of the litter after them. The litter was advertised on Champdogs.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) 1 Lab ( sadly died this year)2 Golden retriever

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? no

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Yes definitely

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Temperament, playful fun country dogs

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Lab puppy, goldie adult
Lab was first dog and wanted to start from the beginning with her training, Goldie I rehomed

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? No Never

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Not keen on toy dogs or any of the bulldog breeds

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? Nothing I didn't expect

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Recommended, I had a friend with lovely dog from same breeder

Hope this helps

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
this will cover a fair number of dogs! All in same order!
Lab. Retriever. Mahoosive sized Mutt. Terrier Mutt
Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchase. Purchase. Free purchase. Nominal purchase
Why did you want a dog?
Didn't have one (applies to first 2). He was cute (family friend). Wanted a dog to go to horsey competitions.
Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
All dead easy. No prolonged house training or barking. All seemed to learn off the resident dog (retriever then lab) how to behave.
Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
No-too much hair. Tendancy to be aggressive. but loyal! Yes-but very extensively health checked as currently has all the prblems one can have! Yes-definitely. Yes-brilliant dog.
What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Sex, looks.
Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy every time. Love to have them from pups, would feel had missed out on puppyhood, don't mind the mess etc.
Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Nope.. The lab is a walking vet bill but a sweeter dog you couldn't meet.
Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Tiny dogs-not good for long cold walks! ETA-brachycephalic breeds-dont understand why they're bred, or those with too many skin folds!
If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Helath problems with the lab-had checked hip scores but not eye tests so thought hips would be fine (are screwed). Retriever-aggression. Didn't expect it but in hindsight may have let it develop. Just managed it. Did bite the odd person. Mongrel-none, he's perfect. Terrier-yes-yapping:! expected! disappearing down holes..away overnight..
Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
Cant remember. Friend bred a litter, hadn't been looking but fell in love. Ditto. Actively sourced from an advert, for a lorry dog.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
Springer spaniel

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Rescue

Why did you want a dog?
As a family pet, to go walking with, train, etc.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Far, far easier, already had been house trained, sit, stay, all basic commands. Also used to being left on own, doesn't destroy anything (fingers crossed) and impeccably mannered. We have been very lucky!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
She was ridiculously sad looking in the kennels! And also because she was soon to be destroyed.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Adult (3 y.o) - weren't fussed whether puppy or adult but we had to take little spangle once we found her, regardless of age!

Do/have you ever regretted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Anything I felt I would be ill-equipped to train/control due to my own lack of knowledge. Would depend on the dog itself.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Didn't quite anticipate just how dirty spaniels can get!

Thanks guys, I have actually devised more areas of ownership to work with given all the info given, once again for those who asked it's for a canine psychology/animal behaviour course and it's a final study, so needed to be detailed.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? purchase
Why did you want a dog? companionship and protection.
Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Until Emma they have been easy. Emma is the exception to the rule.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No but parents have.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Yes
What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
OH wanted a Mastiff as he had had one as a child. I wanted a dog. So went with his choice.
Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? puppy- it was impossible to rehome a Mastiff without previous experience
Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? Yes due to the slobber. Also their size makes it difficult to go on holiday/visiting with them. But I dont regret it:D. I just buy lots of Magnolia paint!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Small breeds.
If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?Hooch- no breed specific problems
Tojo - loads of problems, only one breed specific and little known about it in Mastiffs.
Emma- touchwood she is ok.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? Recommended through OEMC.
Right, this would be really helpful to be if people could answer honestly and it does not have to be one word answers, sorry this is possibly the easiest way I can do this, also if anyone wants to PM an answer feel free, this is not a judgemental posts, its actually for course work.

If I get no answers I will cry:(:p

Hope that helps!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? Border Collie
Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Bought

Why did you want a dog? Always had dogs, last one used to come to work with me, work put a stop to it so he went to live with my Mum. Had our son and changed jobs to working from home; therefore in position to have a dog again.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Easier, he's super intelligent.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? Only to Mum for work reasons.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Nope, my circumstances have changed now.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks. Grew up with a BC

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Chose a puppy as our son was young and a puppy would have less chance of being badley treated in the past causing him/her to turn on our son.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? He's a wonderful dog but due to ill health (I am unable to walk him very often) I wish I had a less engergetic dog. Unless it starts to effect him I would never get rid of him though.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Staffy - sorry I know they are probably a wonderful breed, but just can't get round the fact that they were bred for fighting, like collies were bred for herding and we know how much instinct remains in a non-farm bred collie.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? Makes a horrible yelping noise when we put our son to bed. Or if I call down from upstairs.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Not really sure, the vet thinks one is boxer x lab, the other possibly collie x bull breed x lurcher, but just guessing!

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Both rescued

Why did you want a dog?

Always had dogs and felt bereft after the loss of our other two dogs.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

One was much easier, the other much harder!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes, but don't have a particular breed.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

They needed homes and we had space.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Both were about 4 - 6 months old.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Would be wary of Akitas after encounters with an aggressive one (not mine) and would have to think twice before taking on heavier breeds purely from my own strength (or lack of it!)

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

The boxer x was totally hyper even with loads of training and exercise and quite challenging to deal with, although very loving. I did expect some issues as he was an unknown quantity and had been handed in at a police station as too energetic for previous owners, although it was a shock to the system after owning two geriatric well behaved dogs.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

N/A

Springer
I was given him by the breeder – he was sold with his sister and then sent back as the family couldn’t cope with the two of them – they kept the bitch. The breeder who is my friend offered him to me, or she would have kept him herself

Always had lots of dogs in the family as i was growing up – now got a house with OH and it was empty without dogs

As expected to train

No, never rehomed a dog, although have had several dogs from rescues

Yes i would have another

They found me – i didn’t go actively looking for a dog

He was a 14 week old puppy when I got him

Not regretted any of my dogs

I would not have a husky/malamute/inuit as I don’t think they would fit in with my lifestyle

I have not really had too many problems with him

I knew his parents very well when I was offered him and felt very honoured to be given him

Labrador
I was given him by the family that rescued his mother – unbeknown to them she was pregnant

As for the springer

Easier

I will def have another lab

If i went to buy a dog it would be a lab as we always had them growing up – I would be very careful however to buy one with health tests etc and from healthy lines

He was a puppy

I have not had any problems with him – he is 12 months old now

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) Weimaraner (long haired)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Purchased

Why did you want a dog? I really missed having a dog about (2 x cats don't give quite the same welcome when you arrive home) and we're lucky enough to be able to take him to work.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Hard to say - he has been a really easy dog, however we (still) struggle with his recall when he see's other dogs. Sometimes he'll be 1000000% others you'd think he'd never had any training in his life. BUT for a weimer he is rather placid unless out for walks when he is an utter nutjob.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? Nope

Would you get another of your chosen breed? Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks I've always liked Weimers, OH not fussed. We have two MASSIVE breeders within 4 miles of us here and my best friend got a LH which intrigued OH. Went to see him, came home with him....

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? He was 16 weeks - he'd already been sold and then returned as the woman (who was allegedly a dog trainer) couldn't cope with him. I would have preferred a younger puppy but LHs are rare(r) and it was coincidence that Herman had been returned when we were looking. We had to be interviewed for him and there was never any guarentee that we were definately going to get him - there were others who were also booked in to see him.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? Never. I'd have another in a shot.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Am not a fan of little dogs.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? Like I said, his recall 100% isn't reliable but he's pretty good. Also, he has vague seperation anxiety which we manage - the breed is known for it though and we've built up to being able to leave him for up to 3 hours.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment? She is who my best friend got her dogs from and I loved all her dogs. To be fair though, I've never met any dogs from the other breeder but I find her sensationally rude to deal with and that alone is enough to make me not want a dog off her.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
3 Jack Russells

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Purchased the first one and bred the second two

Why did you want a dog?
I've grown up with dogs and wanted my own

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
Easier, a lot of people make a big deal about Terriers being a "challenge" to train but not really had any problems with mine

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Had to rehome a puppy from my last litter of Jacks due to the home being unsuitable and me insisting on having pup back

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
I have 3 and planning a 4th so yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Looked after a friend's Jack Russell and decided that a small Terrier would fit in nicely with the Gundogs and horse(s). Saw Millie and couldn't resist her

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy first time because she was my first dog and wanted to start from scratch and puppies for the next two as I bred them myself

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Occasionally wonder why as they can be very noisy and quite naughty but they're such loyal, loving dogs with huge personalities that I wouldn't be without one (or more) now

Is there a breed you would never consider and why?
I wouldn't necessarily right off a breed in general, if I fell for I dog what ever breed I would still go for it as all dogs are individuals so would go on the dog, but there are some breeds I wouldn't specifically go out for out of personal preference

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think you may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Millie had an injury her cruciate ligament which resulted in an operation probable cause being her leaping off the sofa arm and onto a hard floor, and has made a full recover. I wouldn't say I thought about it when I bought her, it was an injury not a health issue per say

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisement?
Dad spotted the advert in the local paper for a litter of Jack Russells, they were looking for a dog for me for my birthday after years of deciding what to let me have and when. She was the last puppy left and although she was healthy the place wasn't really up to scratch (farm bred, possibly puppy farm) so not an ideal breeder and wouldn't go back but after 9yrs she's still a smashing dog so no regrets.

Didn't choose the breeder next time round as I was the breeder, prefer to be as much in the know about the full background of the dog as possible just from preference

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
2x Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
Neither, my mum bred both of them, she signed the first one into my name when I began agility with him and the second one I had because she was a runt and we nearly lost her and when I wasn't at school I was the one doing all the work with her (supplementing her feeding etc) and got attached to her so I kept her

Why did you want a dog?
As above, I was competing one and the other was kept under "special" circumstances

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
The same as I expected, already having previous experience with the breed I knew how laid back and easy to train they are

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Didn't have to but rehomed a Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla to a friend after they lost their dog, wanted another companion and had already fallen for him. He also got on better as a lone dog rather than part of the "pack"

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes, having grown up with them I think I'll always have one

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
The breed fit in with our lifestyle but my dog was mum's pick of litter (I just happened to pinch him) and the bitch was special to me given the fight to keep her going when she was born

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
The dog was an adult when he was given to me because I'd started to compete him, he was originally chosen by my mum as pick of litter to show. The bitch was a puppy, I was there when she was born

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Never, they're fantastic dogs to live with

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Mentioned above

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
No problems with either of the two, excepting how small the bitch was at birth which we couldn't have foreseen before hand

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisement?
My mum's the breeder

What breed/ X breed is your dog?

Australian Cattle Dog x2

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Rescue x2

Why did you want a dog?

Better company than people! Got two because I work so they amuse each other (in theory)

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Both harder as they are real blokes with baggage from previous homes!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No would rather cut off an arm!

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes (God help me)

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

Lucinda Green and Tomato, he was not typical though!!!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Always adults as I work so not fai on a puppy and there are so many adults that need help!

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

Sometimes when they really really get on my nerves but not for very long!!!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Huskies and other spitz breeds love them but they don’t suit my lifestyle and don’t like dogs that are too subservient either! I like attitude but trainable!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

Aggression towards me from Blue or psycho as he is affectionately known ,have to be very bossy with him and he can be very scary but we are getting there very slowly, keep telling the little **** that he is lucky to be alive !!!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Quicky reply laptop still in hospital sorry!!!

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes, be that a collie x, ridgeback x or another collie x ridgeback

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Well, considering we wanted a lurcher originally... I would have to say looks! However, collies are one breed I have always wanted since a kid, and like ridgebacks too.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
He was 7 months old, did not want a baby puppy

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Not keen on toy breeds thb

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
Admittedly I thought Blue would be easier to train, he did have a bit of a grumpy teenage stage, but we was expecting that.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts) Boston terrier; Pug

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Bought the BT from a breeder; re-homed the other.

Why did you want a dog? For companionship, because I love dogs, and because we're active people and like to hike and travel.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Both very easy breeds.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? Yes. I took on a Cocker/Golden Retriever from a rescue. The dog had serious aggression issues with other dogs in the home, and so the rescue found him a home without pets.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? No. Stella, my BT, is my heart dog. *Maybe* I'd go for a male BT in the future, but I can't say for certain. I took pity on the pug, and even though he's been an amazing addition, I like breeds with a bit more pep.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
The Boston terrier was chosen for its sweet personality, middling energy level, negligible shedding and size. Living in a city in close proximity to millions of people and other dogs, I did not want to take chances on a breed with guarding instincts or aggressive tendencies.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Puppy for the BT. She was my first dog and I wanted to raise her my way. Pug was an adult.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? No. Actually, sometimes I wish my dogs were bigger, as I would like to worry less when they walk in areas with high coyote populations.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? GSD, Rottie and Doberman. I don't think they make good city dogs, and I don't need a dog with hard-wired guarding abilities. I I can't imagine owning a dog with poor recall, either, so I would think long and hard about a Husky.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? Eye loss for the BT. Complete accident, so definitely not foreseen.

no problems

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

GSD- Rogue
JRT- Jess

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Purchased both

Why did you want a dog?

Got the GSD to feel safe at the yard in the evenings when on my own, plus love having a dog. Got the JRT as company for him and because I wanted a little one!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

GSD was easier, loved his training and picked everything up really quickly.
JRT was much harder, esp compared to GSD!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

Never.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes, definately.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

GSD- all three. I wanted a black, long haired dog.
JRT- I chose her because she was black and tan, so looks.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Both puppies. I wanted to do all the training myself.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

No, never.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

Border collie. Every collie I have ever met has been obsessive and annoying.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

GSD- was very lame as a puppy. The vets thought it may be elbow dysplaysia, which was very worrying. Luckily it was basically bad growning pains and he was fine.
He also showed aggressive tendencies towards strangers when younger, with work he is now better, although I don't trust him completely and am careful with him.

JRT- she is fine, although a bit yappy at times!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

GSD- reputable breeder that was recommended to me. Had beautiful dogs, passionate about the breed, well cared for and loved puppies.

JRT- I knew her mum since she was a pup, the owner is a good friend of mine. I always said if she had puppies I would definately have one, so when she did I got the pick of the litter.

Hope that helps!

Why did you want a dog? COMPANIONSHIP

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? HAD DOGS MOST OF MY LIFE, SO KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? WHEN I SPLIT WITH MY EX, WE HAD 2 LURCHERS, AND HE TOOK ONE OF THEM, WHICH HE STILL HAS OF COURSE.

Would you get another of your chosen breed? DEFINATELY

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT SIGHTHOUNDS, i USED TO USE MY OLD LURCHER FOR LAMPING, BUT THE WHIPPETS I CURRENTLY HAVE ARE PURELY PETS.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? ADULT DOG FIRST OF ALL, THE REST I HAVE HAD AS PUPS. MAINLY BECAUSE I NEVER FELT I HAD ENOUGH TIME WITH MY OLDER GIRL, AND WISH I'D HAD KNOWN HER FOR LONGER :(

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? I RESCUED AN EX-COURSING GREYHOUND ONCE. BUT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A TOTAL NIGHTMARE, IT'S WAY OF LIFE WAS SO INGRAINED THAT IT COULD NOT ADJUST TO HOME LIFE.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
She is a Springer Spaniel

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?
We were given her via this forum.

Why did you want a dog?
Parents had finally decided that after 3 years since Tessa went they were ready and Mills was offered at the right time.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?
A lot easier! She is very bright and had a wonderful start.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
No (foster dog doesn't count does it?)

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Hell yes!

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
I went to Bham dogs home looking for a Dobie and sae Tessa. Took Parents with me (I was 16) and when my mum saw Tessa shaking at the back of her pen she decided that she had to have her. Relatives have always had working Springers.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
She was 18months and was chosen as they wanted to get a dog from the dogs home.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Never.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Labs-sorry I just can't take to them. All the ones I have ever met are needy without being fun.
Chiuhaha(sp)-Eugh
Poodle-Sorry, I was bitten by one as a kid.
Yorkies-rats on leads.

OK -

Breed - Working Cocker
Rescued, but not through a charity
Didn't want another dog, we already had a Lab, but couldn't leave here where she was
Harder to train, no recall and just totally loopy, it took three of us to hold her down just to clip her lead on, God help you if you ever took her collar off
Never parted with a dog, hubby and kids could go first
Would definitely have another, they are worth the hard work
Didn't choose her she was just in need of help
She was 18 months old but I have no preference we've had both adult dogs and puppies in the past
I didn't warm to her to begin with she was just such hard work and gave nothing back but I don't think I regretted getting her - now she's my very best little chum
No breed I would dismiss totally providing with some, the temperament was right
Problems were just the energy levels she had, she'd been shut in a cage or bathroom for her whole life and once she got her freedom just went nuts. I didn't really consider just how bad she would be, first time I let her off the lead she dissappeared for two hours

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)
In order of arrival : mutt/cross breed/cross breed/cross breed/JRT/Lurcher

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? Rescue

Why did you want a dog? I enjoy their company.

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? All were different, none 'hard' to train but I don't want robot dogs I'm happy for mine to come when they are called and anything else is a bonus.

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No hell would freeze over

Would you get another of your chosen breed? I'd have mutts everytime, don't do clone dogs I like something unique and different. With the number of dogs in rescue whatever needs a home finds a home..3 legs, old or infirm..if I fall for them they come home.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

Nothing to do with what they look like, most came as fostered and stayed because I loved them. I prefer males but if a bitch needs me she'll find a home too.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Both cos they came and stayed

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? No

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? Don't do breeds so easier to say which I'd have (staffie, GSD or at Greyhound) otherwise I'd much rather something unique.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

Ha...too long a list, 2 of mine have been dream dogs, the rest were in rescue for a reason!!

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Seen mine on Dog Pages, Oldies Club and various other rescue sites. ;)

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
NO NEVER.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
I WOULD CONSIDER ANY BREED DEPENDING ON CIRCUMSTANCES.

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
NONE.

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?
WENT TO SEE THIS BREEDER AS SHE WAS THE CLOSEST TO ME, DID RESEARCH ON HER DOGS/HER ETC. AND SHE TURNED OUT TO BE VERY GOOD.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? LABRADOR
Did you purchase or rescue your dog? RESCUE

Why did you want a dog? GREW UP WITH THEM AND CAN'T IMAGINE A HOME WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE; HAD THE TIME AND FACILITY ONCE WE LEFT LONDON

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? EASIER - EVEN AT A RATHER BOISTEROUS, UNTRAINED TWO YEARS OLD

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? NEVER

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks; FAMILIARITY AND TEMPERAMENT; ALSO NEEDED IT TO WORK AS GUNDOG

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? ADULT - WANTED TO TAKE ONE THAT WOULD BE HARDER FOR RESCUE SOCIETY TO REHOME

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? NO

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? NO KEEN ON SMALL DOGS; NO HOUNDS OR TERRIERS - GENERALLY PREFER LARGER GUNDOG BREEDS

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? VERY NERVOUS AS HAD BEEN BADLY TREATED; FULLY EXPECTED THESE AND THEY WERE EASILY OVERCOME

Hope this is useful!

What breed/ X breed is your dog? Some form of terrier X something whippety...the general opinion is fox terrier X whippet or lurcher

Did you purchase or rescue your dog? I paid £60 adoption fee from the holding kennels

Why did you want a dog? Both myself and hubby grew up with dogs, our home seemed so empty without one after the loss of our old boy due to cancer

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected? Harder, as a three year old with numerous bad habits-selective deafness at recall seeming to be the worst!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons? No
Would you get another of your chosen breed? YES

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks; He looked so sad and the staff were telling me how nobody paid any interest at all in him and he was coming to the end of his time there (Not sure how true this was, but it definitely pulled n my heartstrings

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why? Adult. See above

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why? I've never regretted getting him, not for a second, but over the last 5 years I've often wondered, during our lowest points, how easier it would have been to have gotten an older dog with no problems with behaviour privately, that we could have seen in the home enviroment etc, but these thoughts have been immediately followed with immense amounts of guilt. I love my boy with every inch of my heart, problems and all, and am very proud of how far he's come.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why? There's no breed that I wouldn't consider providing I had read about that breed and felt confident that I had a strong enough support system to deal with any specific problems that are commonly related to that breed

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog? He would often appear aggressive if he was unsure, he had no recall and was terrified to be indoors. I didn't anticipate this tbh though knew I was stepping into unchartered territory by getting him as the kennels could only assess him so much

Aside from his grumbling every now and then we've had 5 very happy years together, his recall is 90% there so I don't let him have more freedom than the longline when out if I know there's a chance he could encounter other dogs or injure himself near a road or something.

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Collie cross of unknown heritage (suspect Husky, poss GSD based on his looks)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Both! Bought from a rescue for £75

Why did you want a dog?

We used to have a cat as we worked full-time, she died and we missed having a pet. We now have 2 kids and I work around school hours so decided we were in a position to manage a dog. We are first time dog owners and it has been a learning curve to say the least!

Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Harder but it's not him it's me!

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?

No

Would you get another of your chosen breed?

Yes

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks

We wanted a medium sized dog that was rufty tufty enough for walking in the rain, but not too high-maintenance. We googled 'rescue puppies' and the litter came up so we knew before we went that they were tri-coloured Collie x's and when we got there the only bitch had been reserved so that was decision made to get a dog!

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?

Puppy because having kids (aged 11 and 8) we didn't feel experienced to take on a dog with issues.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?

Not really, sometimes I wish we had a dog that sleeps 20 hours a day but equally I love taking him out with the ball and running around..... He's a bit 'special needs' over lights and shadows which gets a bit wearing, but hopefully he will grow out of that!

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?

GSD and Rottie - I don't feel experienced enough to train one and end up with the dog I want at the end!

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?

Dominance in the house, testing his position in the pack.

HTH's

What breed/ X breed is your dog? (you can do one for each dog if multiple amounts)

Did you purchase or rescue your dog?

Purchased two Jack Russell puppies.

Why did you want a dog?

Oldest daughter had begged for three years. I figured that at 16 she was responsible enough with my help
Was the dog easier or harder to train with than your expected?

Have you ever rehomed a dog (had to part with a dog) reasons?
Yes, I had two - a cross lab and a pedigree Golden Retriever. The cross lab was not happy and whenever she went to stay with a friend - she was much happier. My friends husband was a park keeper and she could spend all day with him. My friends dog died and she gave me an ultimatum (in a nice way) - give her Emma or she would get a new dog and couldn't promise to continue to have Emma to stay.

I also had Sammy, golden retriever at the same time. I was working full time, had a baby, was a single parent and was really struggling to give Sammy the attention she needed. I had (and still have) a fantastic vet who decided that I wasn't coping and he knew a woman who lived on a farm - with teenage sons - whose dog had just died. He gave her my number - and she phoned me up out of the blue and did a major selling job about what a great life Sammy would have on the farm. I felt it would have been irresponsible to keep her - although it broke my heart to let her go.

Would you get another of your chosen breed?
Yes, I love my JRTs - so full of character. If I lived in a bigger house - with land - I would definitely get a Retriever again.

What made your final decision on your choice of dog? i.e breed/sex/looks
Horses - I know it sounds daft but everyone said they were great dogs with horses - and we wanted small dogs because we have a lot of cats.

Did you choose a puppy or an adult dog and why?
Puppy - and why - honestly - wanted the cuteness.

Do/have you ever regreted your choice of dog/and dog you ever owned and why?
Yes - regretted Emma - bought her impulsively from a back street breeder - was a really difficult dog, not helped by the fact that I was an ignorant owner who did everything wrong. We never gelled and whenever she did anything destructive it was always to my things.

Is there a bred you would never consider and why?
Not really

If you did have any problems with your dog, what where they? and did you think your may possibly encounter these problems when your purchased the dog?
With Emma - the problems were somewhat about temperament but mostly me not understanding the difference between a dog and a cat and my boyfriend of the time having had dogs that they just let roam the street when he was younger (this was in the 60s)

Why did you chose your breeder/for those with purchases dogs i.e recommend/seen an advertisment?

Impulsively went to the only advertisement we could find that had puppies ready when we wanted them.
