Jezza was taken ill last night, he started vomiting repeatedly at about midnight, I think it was about 6 times before we got to the vet. Just yellow foamy bile.

Vet doesnt know why or what is wrong but current guess is that he has eaten something he shouldn't, but as he is not getting walked due to his leg issue and as far as we are aware he hasn't raided any bins recently we just don't know! It doesn't seem to be a blockage or a foreign object.
Bloods have been taken, Xrays of stomach done, IV fluids administered and injection painkillers given (mainly for his back leg as he threw up his normal tablets).

He is now at home, looking very very sorry for himself, he lost the plot at the vets and they decided he was better off at home as he is now stable enough. Vets going to call me when blood results come back and when more senior vets have looked at the Xrays.

Nothing showing on bloods and they can’t see an obstruction. Don’t think its a virus either as he hasn’t left the house in 3 weeks and Daisy isn’t ill either.
He has been sick once more but nothing since then.
Been told to try him with a little bit of chappie this afternoon and see if he keeps it down, also monitoring how much he drinks as he may need to go back for some more iv fluids if he isn’t getting enough.

Would chicken and rice be good if his stomach is a bit delicate right now. Its what I was advised to do when my pup was similarly ill. Good news there wasn't any major blockage though

Chappie is so good as its really easy to digest and high in protein, vitamins and minerals. They used to feed all the puppies on this at the Dogs Home where I got my dog from.

Where in the country are you? There's quite a nasty bug going round Lancashire and surroundings at the moment, parents dogs had it and they don't go near other dogs. Think it lasted about ten days with treatments, we had about 6 vet visits between them.

So he managed to keep the chappie down all night but did a fair amount of retching during the night (didn't bring anything up).
He has had another half can this morning but is still feeling rather sorry for himself, vet has said not to give him his painkillers as they may upset his fragile tummy so he will likely be very sore as well as feeling rotten.

He did however summon enough energy this morning to have a good bark and howl at the postman!

Poor little chap. Beagles do a good sad though, don’t they? ?
In fairly sure its the crinkle between and over the eyes that gives them such a good sad face.

He has had a few spurts of energy today but then gone back to curling up in his bed.
Going to try a little bit more than half a can this evening.

Love his little face!
My sons old dog could not tolerate any oral painkillers and struggled with injected ones. Almost everything made her sick - really really sick and she would retch for days afterwards. She was given meds only licenced for humans, the usual anti inflamatories, opioids - you name it she had it. She had zantac and lots of other things and nothing ever helped. The vets really struggled with her as she got older. Just wondering if he hasn't been out anywhere could this be a severe meds reaction ?

So he is still very subdued, he has kept his tin of chappie down and we have had no vomiting today, but he wasn’t interested in the takeaway we just had, he is normally an absolute pest when we are eating and any scraps don’t touch the side.

hoping he is just feeling a bit rough still and will pick up over the next few days.

One of my dogs was very sick a couple of months ago, had an emergency night time vet trip as she’d been sick about every 30 mins and wasn’t settling after a few hours and getting late, still managed to continue in the car on the way....(should have put her in the crate but decided not too). She’d stolen some carrots and was def carrots appearing at first. Vet was a bit concerned as temp was up as well. She was very quiet for a few days but none of the other dogs were ill so still don’t know what caused it. She had antibiotics etc Can’t really think it was carrot related but was very odd. Took a few days before she was back to normal. She’d not been anywhere where there were other dogs and we don’t have any coming through the farm.

Jezza is doped up to the eyeballs with all sorts of drugs.

We cannot find why he is sick, just that he is very very sick. He did poo this morning but it had blood in it.

The vets are baffled. There is no blockage, there are no ulcers, bloods not showing anything (though more have been taken today).
He has had antibiotics (just incase), anti nausea meds, pain killers, anti inflammatories and something to settle the acid in his tummy.

We have him home as we are managing to keep him hydrated and they can’t do much else.
He is now refusing food (that is a major bad sign for a Beagle) but he is fairly out of it on the pain meds.

Just a matter of keep him hydrated and monitor him. Have got tummy settlers and pain meds (ones that are gentle on his tummy) to give him later.

I really think we might lose him over this. I’ve never seen him so unwell, he is not a young dog, he is 11 now.
