The phrase tongue in cheek doesn't really apply when horses' welfare is the concern here.

Please, dont make me giggle!

Care to point out any horse/pony already shown in this thread whose welfare is, you believe, under threat? Because I cant see one

I may not be the slimmest person in the world, but my MW 15.1HH cob can carry me with ease, my reply was in jest, as is everyone on here (see my siggie if you don't believe me, or do you still think I'm being cruel?).

Excuse me, but why are some of the overweight people on here proud of "squishing" their horses/ponies? Tall people on ponies don't really bother me, but I really can't abide obviously overweight people on fine and dainty horses, its unnecessary and should be avoided. I really don't see the point of this thread to be honest.

I have seen nothing on this thread that makes me think a horse's welfare is being compromised. The one Tb i have seen on here is fine with her rider, i think the rest are natives and we should not forget what natives were originally used for - carrying men, all day every day.

Its not the native ponies that I'm talking about, as I said its the TB types that I was referring to.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess that would be me and MizElz then?
1) My mare has been checked as I have stated before and has never had any problems in the 2 years I have owned her that suggests she struggles to carry me. Infact chiropractors have said quite the opposite.
2) From what I gather MizElz has had Ellie quite a number of years now and used to SJ. I doubt Ellie has ever had a problem.
In this day and age I think we baby our horses too much..

Honestly I don't think any of the people who have posted are exactly crushing their horses! They're big strong animals, i'm sure the rider would know about it if they were to big.

Im 5'3" and weigh about a stone and a half more than I would like. I ride my frends 13.0hh and 13.2hh fell ponies and they certainly have no problems carrying me! Quite the opposite!!

I was agreeing with what was said and the photos I have seen so far on this thread however, I do think sometimes people on here are too "tounge in cheek" - if a novicy person was reading this they may well feel its ok to sit 15 stone on a 12,2 and laugh about it.

I feel everyone needs to think about the people who come and look on here for advice . If a thread is started " as a laugh and tounge in cheek" it maybe would be better if it were made more obvious
