As some people may have already seen on face book, Poppet, the horse dumped with the rubbish, sadly took a turn for the worst this morning and was pts.
This morning Poppet was found down in his stable, yesterday he had been fine, grazing and looking so much better. The fire brigade came and got him on his feet (thanks lads you were great!) He was however very weak and unsteady. The vet was called and he advised that it was the end of the road.Piggy and Friends and Mum were deverstated as this little horse had made such an impact in the short time he was on their yard. Thye vet ended his suffering by injection and he peacefully went to sleep. RIP little man.
There is so much that could be said at this point about the treatment of this helpless animal but I am too upset to type them!
Poppet spent his last days with people who loved him. He was fussed over, fed, brushed, bathed and loved by everone who met him. People from all over sent him their best wishes and money to help look after him. Strangers arrived with gifts and left as friends. For ten days he was treated as he should have been from the start but it was not to be and he has left us poorer through his lost but richer for having met him.
Thoughout Kent there are herds of these horses, straving and suffering, the RSPCA can not cope. The Brown Bread Charity, who have helped from day 1 with Poppet and had found him a new home for when he was fitter, take up the slack, If you wish to help him now he has gone, help them.
The owners who did this, are known, they have been to court before many times, fines are never paid, orders not to keep horses ignored, How long will this continue. It is time that these people faced real justice, not a slap on the wrist. The courts need to hand out prison sentances!
