The string test is brilliant.. where you measure between fetlock and elbow, then flip the tape above the shoulder to find the end height. It put my girl at 16hh and she’s 15.3 now as a 5yo. There is a post about it, search ‘string test’ maybe?

My Welsh grew from 14hh as a 3yo to 15.1 (8yo) when the vet said he wouldn’t get over 14.2! My current mare was 15.1 when I bought her as a 3yo. 😊

Yes I’ve seen this recommended as fairly accurate, I’ll give it a go once he’s calmed down a little.

Have you put a stick on him yet?
The dealer did and sent me a photo but I haven’t yet, I’m intending on ordering one of those HH tape measures but I think he’d lose his mind if I got one right now 😂

Pretty much walked straight up to him to catch him, well as long as I wasn’t looking at him - fair enough. Sticky feet coming down the field but very, very sweet, just didn’t want to leave his mate. Followed the mare next door to get through the gateway. Then trampled and shat on all his hay, met next door stable neighbour, not interested in his bucket of food, no idea what a hand fed treat is but had a good look around.

We did a tiny bit of earlier than planned pressure and release training as I figured out where he loves a scratch and I needed to get out the stable door 😂 very polite about it too. I think we might just be friends eventually

Lovely boy, you will have fun getting to know him and building him up … my mare was 15.1 at 3 and ended up at exactly 16 hands. Her mum was 15hands and dad was 16 hands and she was a first foal so I was expecting 15hands or so , but I was happy at 16, wouldn’t have wanted bigger..

I mean.. I was absolutely being sensible by buying a more reasonable sized horse, he definitely won't end up any bigger than 16.2hh... (I may like the idea of 17hh+ but shhhh, I would also be more than happy for him to stay as he is)

I was trying to find that old thread that said 'how much did you horse grow after age x' but I can't find it, or remember it's exact title which doesn't help.
Bigger than he is now 😂😁😂

What about looking at Irish place names, I can only think of Donegal and Dublin but might be worth googling if you need inspiration . Do you have a note of his breeding? That might help as well.. I assume he has a passport

I quite like Dublin, but I’ve never been I have to say - I’ve only been to Southern Ireland thus far.

This is his breeding.
I’m not calling him shuttlecock 😂

There's a lot of Mountains and Mist in that breeding - Misty Mountain?

He's very nice. I always think people are brave buying unseen then I see a post like this and think 🤔🤔🤔

I like Mack too but just in case you care about that kind of thing Macha is a girls name (Goddess of war I think from memory and pronounced Mock-a).

I think he looks like an Eoin 😍

He is very beautiful, congratulations.

Macha is an Old Irish word that means horse, also the goddess Macha is a goddess of horses (alongside Epona, who is older/more senior, from which we get the word 'pony').

Kerrigan Boy - combining two of his pedigree names. Kerri for short.

Almost forgot to add he is totally gorgeous and I am very jealous.

Not so keen on mist names, I’m more of a people name person. For a show name I don’t mind Dunbeggan Grey Mountain, almost combines all three?

How is Macha pronounced? All I can hear in my head is matcha tea but I know that’s wrong!

I think I’ll call him all the names on this thread over a couple of weeks and see what sticks 😂
