Description
Hi my daughter is desperate for a pet puppy for crimbo ideally she'd love a chihuahua as she is more comfortable with smaller calmer dogs. I am looking ideally for crimbo eve or as close to crimbo as poss as this would be the most amazing pressie.

I am a full time mum to two daughters and a step daughter, aged 8, 7 and 2. Although my 8 and 2 year old are confident around all animals my 7 year old is more at ease with smaller dogs and it's important to me as a family we are all happy as a dog is for life not just for crimbo.

I am a full time mum studying from home so plenty of time to give lots of love and attention. Please if you can help contact me ASAP ideally looking to spend £250 max due to it been so close to crimbo.

Thank you in advance x

I think I'm missing the problem? :o

Edit:
Wait I think I see it. A) what kind of chihuahua will they get for 250 B) a dog isn't for Christmas

and C) if you are buying a puppy you do research, check the health of parents etc, you do not put a wanted ad on preloved!

ETS, and d) Christmas is the worst possible time to bring a new pup into the home.

Another one in rescue after Christmas due to them putting its fear down to a) nastiness b) downright rudeness.
I'm dreading the period after Christmas, I am hoping for a relatively low income of GSDs to the breed rescue I support :(
K x

You can bet your last farthing that her phone will be red hot with all these chav types offering their poor pups. Who in their right mind chooses a dog for their child from somewhere like pre loved. What about health checks etc etc. Imagine the childs upset if it becomes sick.

Idiots.

I have a chihuahua and would certainly not put them down as ideal pets for children!

They as most people know can suffer from little dog sydrome and can be snappy.

We seem to attract alot of attention if we go out with ours and a few people have put their hand out to our boy without even asking when I'm facing the other way and the dog is in my arms and he has gone for them!

This woman is clearly an idiot and her children need to learn you don't always get what you want!

Plus she will be lucky to get one for less than £600!

:( Dreadful.

My beautiful dog recently passed away and I am lost without him. I don't know what to do with Christmas coming up, whether to wait or start looking now, I've had dogs all my life so it's not like they would be a Christmas present as such! It's the first time in all my life that we haven't had a dog and the house is so empty... :(

I got my pup the week before Christmas last year. She was in a foster home and it was actually the best time as I was off work for three weeks and spending Christmas and New Year at home with few visitors. Depending on what you are doing it can work. Obviously not if you are out partying every night. I am too old for that :-)

Could someone who has an account with preloved just send her a message warning her of the risks. A lot of people do not have common sense and are pretty clueless about dog ownership, puppy farming etc etc. She may not have owned dogs before. Just a gentle word though!!

PS On a similar I often contact people when I see their dogs offered for free. Again, mostly well meaning but oblivious to the crooks out there that get the poor animals for dog baiting. Sad world we live in...

As you say it depends on the situation, but this lady has 3 young children. I can just imagine the noise and excitement level in her house over the Christmas period.

Go and cheer yourself up with an early xmas 'present' from the local rescue :)

Having just bought a chihuahua for under £250!! (muahaha!) they are NOT kids dogs! I hate how they get treated like fluffy dolls. They're the same as any other dog and mine gets treated like any other dog would and he loves life. He can be quite vicious (little man syndrome) so certainly would not leave him with any children.

Doubt anyone will dispute you can buy one for £250 (any search on P4H site will prove that), but I can bet my bottom dollar that their parents will not have been health checked. Chihuahua's can any number of inherited issues, so buying one with unchecked parents is like playing RUSSIAN ROULETTE!

This woman is also buying for a child and as stated above, your 'less than £250' bargin muhaha could not be left with children (not that I would leave kids with dogs unsupervised).

Actually ps I will now prove you wrong. He is bred by a very reputable breeder and was bought by original owners for £850. He is fully health checked, as are his parents and all papers and kc registered. I will quite happily scan in appropriate documents to show you. He was for sale as a just turned 1yo for £450 but had any numpties offer to buy him that lived in high rise flats etc and thought a chihuahua would be a suitable dog as they 'dont need walking.' I came along and offered a fantastic home, full run of farm, actually get treated like a dog etc but because he is not neutered and to get this done and to buy him would of been more than my budget we agreed on a price after I took him to the vets to get him checked and bought him. Sorry to be so abrupt but sometimes a good home is priority for a designer dog rather than the money!

The reason he is vicious (by this I mean will growl but has not bitten) is because in his old home he constantly got terrorised by a 6 year old kid. They're not children's dogs.

Thankyou.

I got mine off preloved for £50 for my 18th birthday. I can't imagine how he would have turned out if he was bought by someone with small children as he is easily influenced and excitable. This woman is just asking for trouble and I just hope no one gives her a dog. Not for Christmas anyway

Sorry but a reputable breeder would have take him back. From his photos he barely looks like a chi and certainly not a well bred one.
What are the health checks?

I don't know where you live but rescue remedies (Gatwick and Farnham) often try to have some of their rescues fostered out over the Christmas period. Obviously they vet the homes etc but might be a compromise?

In terms of your actual timings.. I would think more about are you ready for another dog yet. Some people need another dog immediately, some need time. There is no wrong or right way of doing this. However by looking now and possibly taking on a rescue dog, you will have undoubtedly freed up a space that will be needed after Xmas

Would a breeder take a dog back if the person had already found a buyer?

It should be part of the puppy purchase agreement that the dog be offered back or returned to the breeder. It is a standard part in codes of ethics. The owner should not have needed to look for a buyer.

Last one I took back that I had bred was 12 years old and family circumstances changed.

The breeder would ideally have a clause that they should have first refusal if the dog could not stay with its' owner and a good breeder will make it clear to the buyer that they must contact them in case of emergency/needed to rehome.

Sadly not all buyers do this and I know of cases where breeders, despite all these clauses and contracts, have had no idea that their dogs have been moved on and have been devastated that they have wound up in rescue/neglect situations.

The reputable breeder didn't know they were selling him. I had to get in contact with his breeders to have his microchip changed as previous owners didn't change it. They were very annoyed as the previous owners signed a contract to say they would let breeders know if selling.

S4sugar? Do you know the standards of a well bred chi. Big google eyes that stick out miles, stuffed noses and rounded ears are actually not to the breeds standard.

I'm actually quite offended by that statement. He is ALL chi. Papers to prove and is a well bred one.

I had to beg and barter to get him as cheap as I did but the owners wanted him to go to a nice home where he will be treated like a 'dog.'
