Pronounciation of horsey things

My youngest used to call stirrups "stip rips". he was only 3 at the time though. mum in law says "mote troll" for remote control, drives me crazy!

Was watching the videos on You tube on the Neue Schule bits with my husband who says the word correctly, I can never remember so I now call them the newey shoey bits, drives him nuts hehe so I say it more!:D

Here's one then, I've never had to say it out loud but always forever wondered how its pronounced...

Roeckl. (As in the gloves.)

My favourite was a numpty I knew who read loads of books then made out it was stuff she'd had real life experience with. So stuff like chambon pronounced with a ch like in church, de-goguwe & pedal bone said to rhyme with medal.

I have met a few people that call the make of feed Dobson and Horrell instead of Dodson and Horrell.

And a really embarrassing one that I said was Piarff instead of Piaffe! in my defence I worked for a really posh woman who called it piarff and she had been to the Olympics in the dressage team! I felt like a right nob when I realised! I bet those other grooms that I was chatting to really took the piss :(

I'm now wondering how people pronounce "dressage" after all of the comments

Despite having a fairly pronounced North East accent, I've always said "dressahge" (with a soft "g"), even though I pronounce "garage" like "garridge"

When writing things down, it drives me batty when people school in a menage and not a manege (manège!) :p

same, for dressage, trying to think how else it could be said (Its garaaage not garidge for me though :p)

I pronounce dressage as 'dress are je' if that makes sense? that's how i hear it being said most commonly although i have hear 'dress har je'

Not so much pronounciation, but how people refer to poo always make me laugh. You get the;

1.) Whoopsies
2.) Manure
3.) Droppings
4.) Poo < I fall into this category :)
5.) Plain old ****. <<sometimes this one too! :D

The most bizarre one I ever heard was faeces. Admittedly not that odd a word, but not common in a yard context.

IMO, its all the same stuff, I just love how at times people try to avoid saying it how it is :)

Livery who used to be on the yard had a thorowWOOD saddle. I used to have to bite my tongue very very hard not to snap thorowGOOD, GOOD GOOD GOOD NOT WOOD.

Ok.... has someone said this already, but it's "man-airj" not "maynarj" but if I pronounce it properly everyone thinks I've got it wrong

I've heard people saying that, makes me want to beat them over the head while shouting "Jodhpurs, with a D, you cretin, named after the Indian town Jodhpur!"

Oh gawd my snob of a mother used to live there, and when we were children she insisted we called them "Jode Paws" [said in a really posh accent] which made us the laughing stock of the Pony Club :o It wasn't until shock horror  an Asian family moved to the village and I asked the dad how to pronounce it that I realised that the normal anglicized way is near as makes no difference the proper way  But then my mother says "orf" so she won't change ;)

ok seems I say laminae wrong then, I did latin and plurals (ae) were pronounced as 'i's so I would say 1 la-min-ah, 2 la-min-eye...
Ive always said roeckl as rye-kle but I havent a clue :D And i definitely day dressarj too :(

I just say ROCKLE, pronounced rock-ul. :D :D :D

Dressage - dressaahhge with a soft sound. Have heard it said as dressidge though..

hee hee I heard somebody refer to their horse competing as haute couture instead of hor concour :-) and another person pronouce snaffle as snuffle!

Oh and it's manege not menarrrrrrrrrrrge! lol

I've always pronounced Reeckl as roe-kel.

The one that annoys me the most is Kineton (as in Kineton noseband). EVERYBODY I've heard pronounces it as Kin-it-ton... It's frigging Kine-ton! People always try and argue with me about it, I used to live there, I should know  :D
