I didn't ride last weekend - I really want to get back in the saddle this weekend, but the roadway just outside our stables is very slippy - I reckon it would be fine on the tracks (ned is unshod) round the farm, its just wether I can get to them! I want to ride!!

A hack tomorrow isn't likely, track to the stables is a little slippy, and the road we have to go on is a small one, and still snow/ice covered (and far too long to clear!)

I could go for a hack around our field, but thats not really going to do much for him as he gets turned out all day every day anyway. Plus in his own field he's pretty excitable on a normal day, him pratting around and slipping with me on top is just not worth it :)

I can hack mine out on gritted roads at the moment but will struggle when we get more snow (although if we get more snow it will be much easier to go off road and ride), obviously not riding as much or for as long as I would like.

I unfortunately can't ride the horses at work as their side roads are still really slippy and I can't get to the school :(

I tried riding mine last weekend when the roads were reasonably OK'ish, BUT within five minutes my hands were freezing so I couldn't feel the reins at all, and Himself was puffing and prancing around like a Chinese dragon, so all I could do was just hang on for dear life and hope he'd not do anything too stupid.

I haven't ridden since; he hates the cold wind and I know that if I took him out he'd just want to bronc, and on a slippery road that just ain't an option.

Perhaps this weekend I'll try to get out, but as he does get a bit of turnout during the day I'm not gonna stress out if he doesn't go out, and am certainly not taking any risks.

Wait till it warms up says this happy hacker.

No. :(

The sand school is frozen and the road is too slippy as it is hilly and has only just been gritted. We've been leaving the car in the village and walking up to the house. I'm going to check the road again tomorrow as it was looking better today. (Fingers crossed! :D )

Nope, because when the track was okay to get horse on to road (only way to get to hacking areas), the road was atrocious and wouldn't trust cars to slow without skidding/ be able to overtake safely.
Now that the minor roads are okay, I can't get horses out of field due to all the ice.

Will have to wait for a thaw to get my two out.

no, we have pointers who need to be ridden every day but there is just way too much ice. we would break their legs too easily if we risked it. If we had more snow it'd be fine but as it is, theres too much of it in some places and not enough in others. Its actually been raining tonight, my oh has just come in with fish nd chips to say its freezing hard so gonna be lethal tomorrow......

No. I attempted it - we've got an indoor school but, even through Sealskinz, it was too cold to feel my hands properly :(

I've lunged once this week and then just played groundwork games in the school of an evening.

At work were very luck have an indoor school and a all weather canter track which we can go across grass too, the boss just harrows it with the tractor in the morning and away we go.

My daughters still been riding every evening in the outdoor school which isnt hard suprisinly did have a bit of snow but kind of mixed in/melted now just well oil his feet and shes fine. Good job cos of the extra hay for warmth his belly looks like its grown a bit!!! No hacking for her though roads to slippy and dont trust the mad car drivers.

I rode In the outdoor school on Wednesday, it did have a layer of snow but it wasn't frozen, kept an eye on his feet and kept it slow.
Monty has not been in the school this week but usually only goes in there once a week.
Suppose to be having a lesson tomorrow but if it doesn't happen then I will be hacking, debating if I should lead Monty or not. There is a posibility he may mess around but if I put it off he may get worse

Took bob the cob for a lovely hack yesterday on Epsom downs through 2 ft of snow. Bob the cob now aka "High plains drifter" , took it all in his stride and I think I learned a little about the american way of riding ,as it was easiest to let him ballance himself and ride him on one ( light) hand . I can see how the westwern way of riding has evolved.

I wouln't dare. My mare is clumsy enough on a solid, flat, dry road let alone with a foot and a half of snow under her very unsteady pins! And she has FOUR of them!! Where does she get off?!:rolleyes:

Snow not deep enough to be soft, so can only walk and trot (carefully) on my TB who is unshod. The shod ponies are slipping as the ground is frozen under just enough snow to make it worse not better! This is in the field - don't have a school.

Unfortunately no I havent been able to ride for about 2 weeks :(

The snow is 2-3ft deep in the outdoor school which I dont like riding in even when there is no snow as the surface isnt good at the mo. And I wont dare try to trailer to hire an indoor. So am stuck until the roads are good enough to tow on.

Am still putting Cooper out from about 9-2ish to go play in the snow. He seems to be coping ok and is happy to come in an munch on his hay all night.

We have an indoor school so it's possible to ride, however is's not been possible to turn her out for 3 days now (really rare for us not to turn out). So it might turn out to be an 'interesting' experience.
Added to which it's snowing heavily here again now.
