There had been talk of setting up a Racing Clubs thread but haven’t seen it, so here goes!

I have three horses with Owners Group which is fun, and have joined the Chris Honour Racing Club, mainly because he’s on my doorstep. I’ve been to see one of the horses work today but was so busy chatting with his delightful wife Becky that I forgot to take a photo… have this one instead, it’s the view from the gallops!IMG_9004.jpeg

I have 3 with Owners Group including Stage Star, I also have 1 with Old Gold but wont be renewing. I have to say I think Owners Group are amazing and have been on stable visits and to Equiprep where their resting ,recuperating and retired horses go. Equiprep is just an amazing place and the horses there have an amazing time.

I’ve loved the OG visits, I’ve been to Antony Honeyball (Farouk de Cheneau has since done a leg), Paul Nicholls and Philip Hobbs. Hoping Hobbs gets another OG horse.

I am more excited about Chris Honour though as a local connection - I see them riding out quite often on my way to and from work.

I have Farouk as well and have been so impressed with how well he did with Anthony Honeyball considering who he was with before and had made no progress, fingers crossed Farouk makes a full recovery. I hope OG reward AH with another purchase and are hoping they get a nice NH prospect in time for Christmas, another unbroken one like Stage Star would be nice.

I’ve got two with Owners Group (one of whom is constantly lame sadly) and have had two in the past. Also the lovely Apple with Old Gold and I had another with them who passed away in the summer.

It’s good fun following them and nice to feel a little invested in the racing world.

My OG horses aren’t looking too hot at the mo… Gaulois did very well despite being tricky, then fell off the lorry loading and broke his I’d, pts. Philip Hobbs trained Toast the Host had a hock infection that despite much investigation would not settle and was also pts. Now I have two with a leg, and one with a potential leg. The newbie seems okay at the mo!

Chris Honour yesterday, Dropotlikesitshot is very sweet and polite and he’s very pleased with her.

I’ve got quite a few…
Stage Star, Bond Broker, Swift Hawk, Fortune Dancer, Inca de Lafayette, Makinyourmindup, Go West, Carlo de Berlais with OG. Farouk if you still count him.
Picks Lad with Old Gold, mainly to dip a toe in the water with them but so far I prefer Owners Group.
Chris Honor racing club (STR fault, took me to their open day 😄).
I’m interested in going more of a splash and joining Chasing Gold. Jane Williams is very near me and Harry Fry not that far. I have to see, it’s an awful lot more money. Probably a future thing when shooting is banned.

I've got 3 with Old Gold. Jemura with NH/MickFitz, Picks Lad with Harry Derham and Sovereign Star with Donald McCain.

Jemura ran a few times last year and then a wind op. He's back and NH says run in Nov. and maybe nov. cha., Picks Lad due to run in Nov. nov. chasing and Star is back in work after being laid off.

Plus as above the free PTP Secret Scripture

Had one stable visit to NH and hope to visit HDerham next year (wasn't free to go on the visit next month).

I always follow the lovely Apple though and take an interest when other club horses run.

Hoping some of mine will run locally this season as I would go independently even if I couldn't get a club pass.

Enjoy your day at Carlisle! It's a lovely track, good viewing and plenty of space.

I won't be there as I am still on the way up from Kempton and will be turning round in a few hours time to head to Cheltenham but I can assure you my colleagues will have the horse looking tip top and pretty as a picture! Scu will be there, Lucinda won't as she is being drafted in to drive a truck to Cheltenham today 😂

I have a few with Old Gold, I started with Apple and have renewed my shares in her for this season. I got a little click happy after she progressed so well so I now have;

Apple Away (Lucinda Russell)
Picks Lad (Harry Derham)
Killybegs Jet Lady (Lucinda Russell)
Big City Roller (Charlie Longsdon)

Killy and Roller are both running today at Carlisle, in the same race... enjoy @leflynn!

Carlo pulled up. He never does look very fast but he just got slower and slower. Going looked testing.
Not mine but poor Kits Cody got totally taken out on the flat in her first race.
How did the Old Golds do?

I bought my OH 2 shares in Gaulois for his birthday one year. I enjoy racing anyway and do still get the horses available via email. I am tempted to get one for myself.

Big City Roller won today, Stroll on By won on Tuesday - been a good week for Old Gold.

I have a share in Jemura who's with Nicky H. He's only five so am enjoying seeing how they progress him. There's a yard visit next week which I can get tickets for, but I'm not sure I can get the day off work 🙁

These cheap, cheerful racing clubs are a great thing for racing. How many of you would regularly follow a horse? Bet on it? Go to the racing to watch it etc? If you didn't own 3 tail hairs of it? You wouldn't. It brings normal people together and brings more money into racing in many different ways.

I agree they are great- my dad is in one with a smallish local trainer, which I think must be good for the trainer as he gets a bit of income, gets interest from people, and I think a few people from the club have gone on to form smaller syndicates as well. Equally for someone who is a lifelong racing fan to be able to go into the paddock etc (relatively small racing club so he can usually get passes, especially midweek) is an amazing experience!

They normally try to have three club horses at any time, which helps if there are any injuries, soundness issues etc too! None of the horses will be world beaters, but it's a fun day out, and probably helps out some of the smaller race courses with field sizes etc.

My employer is horse-racing-adjacent, which means there are videos and photographs of beautiful Thoroughbreds all round the office. Combined with this thread, it's got me considering buying into a horse!

Edit: Oops. I own half a tail hair of a 3yo gelding.

I timed it well! He'll hopefully be having his first run at Wetherby on Friday!

I am on my fourth with Owners Group, with a share in Manorbank. Yea! The previous three are now retired but they all won at least once so that's pretty good. I enjoy the visits to the trainer's yards and Equiprep is lovely.

My sister had a share in Stage Star and knew that he won at Cheltenham in January but sadly didn't make it to see him win at the Festival.

I have just got a share in Old Gold group, after the recent discussion. He promptly won! So far the organisation doesn't seem as slick as Owners Group, so I shall just have to see how it pans out.

I have also got some free tickets for a nearby racecourse, so that's good too from Owners Group. Of course whether it is a stable visit or whatever, you do have to take your chance in a ballot and I haven't yet got a ticket for the race where the horse is running. But you have to be ready to drop everything at very short notice if you did happen to be lucky. I have only asked twice as they were close by courses, but didn't get a ticket.

I have decided that unless you have a burning desire to have a horse with Paul Nicholls or Nicky Henderson, the trick is to have a horse at a trainer's yard which is in relatively easy reach so you can hope to visit and they might use a racecourse within reach too.

@Orangehorse I find the Old Gold organisation great, but probably worth remembering it’s literally one or two people in their office handling every aspect of it all!
