My main gripe is definitely they are a betting company and that’s what they do. I rarely bet, I love watching magnificent athletes doing their best which is why I follow racing.

Can't say I'd even noticed Old Gold was a betting company and I've been with them over a year 😂

I'm with Old Gold but am not on Facebook. Sounds like I'm not missing anything if the Facebook lot are so betting focused.

I don't bet but just love racing and am also impressed with the Old Gold emails and video clips on the horses at home with the various trainers. (A very happy Picks Lad 'owner' after he won this week).

As I don't have RacingUK I was delighted over the weekend to get a Picks Lad email with a link to the video of his race last week from Old Gold and am looking forward to there being a stable visit to Harry Derhams sometime next year (I couldn't go to the recent one).

Very late to this thread as was on holiday when it was started and only just saw it!
Have
Old Gold:- Big City Roller, Jersey Rocs, Paddy de Pole, Jemura, Killybegs Jet Lady, Picks Lad.
Owners Group:- Jaramillo, Ile de Jersey, Salamanca City, Brummell, Engelbert, Zoran, Carlo du Berlais, Bond Broker, Glynn, Take Your Tim, Manorbank, Gold Link, Barrichello.

Its a bit addictive!!
Have been this year on stable visits to
Emma Lavelle, Fergal O'Brien, Nicky Henderson.

Watched all of Cheltenham on TV and was yelling Stage Star home.

Tomorrow I am going to the Newbury Gold Cup entries racecourse gallop so am looking forwards to seeing the ones that attend work.

Thanks to you all I joined OG and bought a share in Bond Broker as I loved his head and his build. I see he came 3rd in the bumper today.
I’m so glad you joined, and he’s such a lovely boy. I think he got a bit huffed today after being a bit enthusiastic early doors. Haven’t seen report yet ( I only just watched the race after work).
And MYMU is mine too and he jumped so well. I’m loving micro syndicates!

I'm considering buying a share or two for OH as a Christmas present (because I've no idea what else to get him!) but know next to nothing about racing. Not sure he knows much more than me (apart from how to put shoes on them!), but he does like to watch it when it's on the TV. Are the horses that are available through groups like Old Gold or Owners Group likely to run in races that are televised? I accept that a 'share' will be equivalent to about 3 tail hairs :D but can anyone offer advice on a good group to go with, and what sort of thing you get for your money?

Just been browsing owners group horses available for share - how did you select them ? By the look of them, the trainer, where the horse is based eg more local? Thank you !

I picked purely on the look of the horse! I suspect Running the Game will need a year or so to come into his own - he's still built like a baby and isn't a very efficient mover - but I just liked the look of him.

If I get another, I'll be looking for one that's based nearby, though

I only have OG horses which are fairly close to me (so in my case limited to Antony Honeyball or to Paul Nicholls) because as part of ownership you will be able to visit your horses yard on open days.

I went with Chris Honour because the yard is about 5 minutes from home for me, and I like to support local.

Thinking of getting a share of Jemura for my FIL for Christmas. How likely are you to get a spot on an open day visit with one share? It reads on OG that there are 200 spots and its balloted. FIL is retired, so can easily go midweek. Reading the posts upthread it seems like there is quite a good chance?

FYI - if anyone wants to watch all of their horses runs for free you can sign up to Sporting Life (free) and the videos of all the races are up half an hour or so after the race has finished.
Thank you Elf. Didn't know that. If I want to see an untelivised race I just put 50p or something on with an online bookie and watch it on line which generally doesnt work very well 🙄

I have one OG horse, Will Carver, who has been declared to run at Taunton tomorrow. I have waited 3 years for a local run and am now struck down with some sort of sinus/chest infection that the ABs are not clearing up sufficiently. If he does run I might drag myself there and guarantee a good view of him in the parade ring by utilising my hacking cough 🫤.

I’ve always got in to the open day visits, but I’d advise booking as soon as they’re available.

Also if you have a Paddy Power account you can watch races live on their site - no requirement to have a bet on the race.

I do, with roughly an £11.00 credit! Not sure if Ive used their live stream, but have definately used the William Hill one which generally packs up just after the start🙄 Will give PP a go ...

If you are interested in Jemura perhaps wait until after this weekend and see how he runs (weather permitting). He is entered at Doncaster on friday and Leicester on sunday with the intention of running at one of them depending on ground conditions.

I did get to NH and saw Jemura in the spring visit in March but as above booked as soon as the tickets were available. We were unlucky at that visit as it had been so wet we couldn't be taken up to the gallops and only saw the horses, including CHill, in the covered ride.

It doesn't take into account how many shares you have though, you simply enter the ballots regardless of whether you own an eyelash or an actual hoof.

The last one they did was balloted, then wait listed, and I was succesful from the wait list (but couldn't go). They used to be a complete free for all which was a tad unfair, so they have listened to feedback and are balloting.

Saturday horses, maybe Picks Lad with Old Gold.
The latest Paul Nicholl’s OG horse, Gillespie, won’t run until late next year so I’d skip him as a gift. It is great fun.
I have never been lucky with a ballot for an open day but have always been offered a replacement day. I’ve had one paddock ticket, which was great.

Will say today/yesterday is the first time I've not received the email(s) I should have done for my share horse racing today. Have popped OG an email as having managed mailing lists and targeted mailing lists in a previous life, it's not hard to get right?

I still managed to watch Jemura's race though, came third and post race video said ground was vile. Nico de B has ridden some good uns in his time though, so I'm going to keep the faith.

Regretting not getting an Apple Away share when I had the chance 😂

My mum often misses out on OG emails from Apple so it's quite often a problem with them. And as you say it's not hard to sort mailing lists for the right people for the right horse.

Not quite sure how I missed this thread but it has been great reading up on others' horses. I have just started my second year with a share in Albert Hall with Julie Camacho. When I saw his advert and realised he was a Pivotal baby it had to be. Pivotal was my ex-racer's grandsire so I feel a "family" connection.

He has had a stop start to training bless him with knees which needed an op to remove some debris but apparently he is cantering away well now. Frankly, I am not in the least bothered about when he enters an actual race (and not interested in betting) but I just wanted the connection but I am thoroughly enjoying the OG videos every week.

I am not sure about his long term viability post racing with knees which will probably become arthritic so I am somewhat relieved that I am now too old to take on another ex-racer............. otherwise............................
