Storm here last night and a fair bit of rain over the last week, interspersed with the occasional nice day. It does not feel like July at all.

I visited my uncle in hospital in Liverpool yesterday with my mum and it absolutely hammered down while we were there. Walking back to the car, all the roads were flooded and some idiot in a van flew through a puddle and soaked me 😅

The forecast for the next two weeks looks pretty much rain every day with the odd dry morning or afternoon. I’ve given up thinking we will get a proper summer. Summers have long gone and this is the new normal, sadly.
That was nice of them! Idiot!

I keep telling myself that it's just a late spring and we will get summer a bit later on...

I agree, unless August surprises us which it never does...

Oh well, am about to buy new turnout rugs for new horse...I best get the highest waterproof rating I can at this rate!
I'm thinking/hoping that we will get our summer late August-September time at least but losing faith currently!

Don't blame you. Mine has been in her Summer Series rug for most of "summer" but had to go in the 50g the other day because the rain was so heavy. They'll start growing their winter coats at this rate! 😂

Mine already has 🙈 He starts growing his winter woolies about a week after the Summer Solstice and stops about a week or two after the Winter Solstice evety year 🤣 I usually clip July/August to December but then never need to do a late winter re-clip.

At least I've not had to clip yet, I guess!

I find it utterly depressing that it's only been 2 months since this thread was last updated and now the rain has started again.

Really going to find it a struggle having to do this all again so soon.

Indeed! It’s started raining everyday here again now and looks like it’s going to get very windy tomorrow and then again beginning of next week! What has happened to the prediction of a drier winter - I’m praying we are getting the rain done with now and then it might return to dry again. 🙏

Here we go again!! Rain rain rain! Fortunately all we can do to mitigate it has been done all wrapped hay for the year made and in the barn.Horses can be out 24/7 with a large bedded down pole barn and access to the fields and now they are both retired no rugs to wrestle with as they can be 'indoors,,' in the pole barn whenever they choose.BUT it is soooo depressing battling the weather with wet clothes and wet dogs!!!
I can use the indoor sand school to exercise the dogs but they do like to get out on the fields a couple of times a day.
It just seems endless winter with very little summer in between.
People on livery have my deepest sympathy as at least I can choose the routine the horses have!!

I'm northwest and we've done relatively well for rain which is odd given the geographical history of the NW.

It is raining every day but more showers, and still warm. Just a bit of mud so far.

But I agree, this is too early for crap weather. September is usually lovely.

My mind says it can't possibly be as bad as last winter. I had no idea I was such an optimist.

Hammering it down here. I have two unruly dogs as they refused to go for a walk this morning (I can't blame them!) and they did their business in the stables (open stables in my garden which the dogs seem to regard as emergency plan B if it's raining too hard to go in the garden). The horses are in for this morning as I don't have the heart to chuck them back out. The rain should stop for a bit at lunch time, so they can go back out then. At least they'll have had time to dry off and have a nap if they wanted. I've spread a bit of grain under shelter in front of the stables for the chickens as they are looking miserable. The fluffier ones are looking very bedraggled.

Same here. We've already had thunder today.
I really really hope we have a dry winter.

feeling royally fed up with it all already! feels like we’ve had no summer whatsoever, im still sporting the tan lines from camp but i honestly feel like i’ve not ridden in the sunshine since🤣

i’m very lucky to be on a yard with year round turnout, but the caveat is that my field is trashed, they ignore any hay put out so there’s clearly grass in there but it looks dismal:( fields aren’t really big enough to be splitting but i’m going to have to do it anyway to salvage the bottom half which will hopefully last as a trash paddock over winter - 2 big trees in the field that i’ll be tying big haynets to through winter. need to ask YO to muck spread on my field asap i think, but i’m dreading keeping them in as a result!

our arena is a bit naff, fine in summer but in winter one side gets insanely boggy, and when it’s cold the whole thing freezes over for ages. i wanted to be cracking on with diva, but the saddle fitter has had my saddle for 2 weeks (separate moan), so she’s been on a little holiday. no motivation to ride lily because the weather seems permanently miserable and she’s a fair weather horse🤣

very very lucky to have transport so i can still get out and do things when the arena isn’t usable, but i can’t afford to be paying to hire arenas for 2 horses every week🥲 there’s a small woods about half an hour away that has a short stretch of sand & rubber surface, so i think i’ll be making the most of that this year to get in some canter without it costing me anything.

i really need to invest in some waterproof breeches, but they’re all so expensive! i hate the thin waterproof trousers, but my equidry is just too warm to school in and i end up sat on the back bit which is annoying.

My lot are like drowned rats but if I rug they start sweating underneath.

Their in the winter field already as the acorns have been dropping for a couple of weeks in the summer side. Summer grazing was bare until I moved them off, it's now lush and green and probably to rich to put my fatties back on again this year.

Every cloud has a silver lining - I've just met the vet for jabs and we have just managed to dodge the downpours. Not so rosy is that I've had to re-start their jabs because I've missed them by 2 days - gutted!

We have standing water and mud already :( Trying to work out what to do land-wise as if I move them onto their Winter grazing now I think it'll be gone by the end of October. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has put every spare minute and penny into preparing for this Winter, but it still doesn't feel like I've done enough or like I'm ready.

This Summer hasn't been great and I do wonder if this is the 'new normal' now :(

I'm currently Googling waterproof skirts!

I've bought some new wellies.
I'm now searching for a waterproof skirt as it's easier to take off when getting in the car rather than taking off trousers or a long coat if drenched. Saying that, I'm going to look for some car seat covers too because everything is bound to get wet so maybe a long coat would be better...

We are on our second amber weather warning in the last 48 hours! Continuous heavy rain last night and forecast again for tonight. I was hoping mine would stay out until the end of october but they have been in the last 2 nights as I need to save their field and they looked so miserable.

On the positive side, I have plenty of hay and bedding in and a lovely indoor school to ride in so shouldn't really complain.
Maybe October will be beautiful 😂

Mine are in again tonight as we have rain and high winds forecast again - Leicestershire looks horrendous with all of the floods so I am feeling quite lucky here in Lincs as although weather hasn’t been great it hasn’t been as bad as some have had it. My summer field is still holding up well (it has a spring under it and once it gets to a certain depth of mud it’s unusable until the spring) and if we get the wind we have got forecast any rain we have tonight should dry it all out again by next week. I will leave them in there as long as possible, (there’s still plenty of grass but they are eating hay when out too now) as annoyingly it is the closest field but sadly the wettest..!

Trying to remain positive 🙏 hope everybody down south is ok in the storms this evening!
