Rant - why do people look down on you if you own a cob?

Lmao guido. My pony is a dangerous lunatic that only I am brave enough to ride cos I'm fantastic. She'd scare a lowly tb rider, let alone a cow jockey!
... Toddles off conveniently forgetting image of 7yr old daughter cantering bareback across field this am, & god knows how many other small kids over the years!

I'm not actually sure if mine is a cob or not, more like a mini corn on the cob so you can look down on me from your real cob and feel superior :D

Who cares what anyone thinks. Not me!

Ah so only rich people can have a nice horse - not elitist at all then. ;)

Paula

It was tongue in cheek :p Having only ever owned the freebies of the horsey world, I reckon I (and my sister) know a fair bit about not-nice horses ;)

And I think, on a serious note, that I'm right. A nice horse (as one who is capable of competing properly and has a decent temperament) either has to be bought for proper money or made from something that wasn't nice... So yes. Rich people are the ones who get the horses who are nice off the bat. The rest of us get the horses who need some effort to make them nice :D In terms of potential you can buy something that could be very nice, but you still have to take that punt on something that isn't typical or doesn't have the perfect past.

When I told my sister in law that I bought a hairy piebald cob, she laughed at me and said what on earth are you going to do with that. I'll be the one laughing when she's riding her unpredictable and flighty welsh d and I'm on my lovely quite cob :)

Honestly though, if the horse does its job, I don't think it matters if it's a tb, wb or a cob.

Facts please guido. Cobs are not cheap. They are infact always free, as no one sane would actually pay for one. Although I believe for a decent plough cob its several tokens from a kelloggs box & p&p.

I got the same comments until folks saw my "little pony" out hunting, or to be precise, his tail, if they could keep up with it! He was usually glued to the the field master!

Iv always been a tb person and love finer types but recently iv gone for cobs. Still have a tb and love them but wanted a piebold hairy cob so iv just brought a foal to bring on.

I didn't want to be to insulting but I believe it is actually tokens from coco pops & a tub of slim fast. . . . .

LOL to most of the above.

I have two cobs and being honest I dont think people look down on them so much as they know that they have limits (being built and bred differently for some examples) sports wise to other types :)

K has won races agains sportier types and has given me great fun and joy over the years hes more of a lightweight coblet :)

Wee S is a little dales x welsh coblet and shes quite a sporty little thing BUT even then she has limits, shes not fast, can cover the ground but without canny XC riding we will have time faults regardless of the fact I know she can clear the fences ;)

Cobs have limits that TB and other lighter types dont have. Yes you get the odd one that can keep up with the TBs and WBs BUT they arent bred to do so and its about understanding these limits and being happy with what you can do, if your happy with what you do thats great :) I hate seeing horses not built or bred to do jobs being pushed to do them as it just causes the horses issues later on.

Have to say love a good coblet though :D Hence the fact I have the two :D

I have just spent several pence on a baby black cob. I am in my mid thirties and am fully expecting to grow an enormous backside in the next 18 months, plus the beginnings of a beard are sprouting from my chin so I'll need a horse who makes my facial hair look insignificant. Plus my warmblood wouldn't tolerate stabilisers and I got scared it might tip over if I picked up speed. :)

Nah they mostly look up at me seeing as my cob is well over 16hh now and they are all sat on their poncy 15hh tbs ;)

The upside is they harrow fields all on their own (quite well if they have a slope to charge down)...and the only way mine would break a leg is if she was repeatedly driven into with a tractor. Even then I wouldn't fancy the tractor's chances.

*sigh* I long for her to be as sane and reliable as my 3/4 TB :D

I shouldn't worry, I am always being told my 17.2hh Cob is very nice! Now I know he is coloured but he is Selle Francais x (albeit the 'X' could be a cow!!!!)

I can sympathies. But seriously, although it will cost your more than your plough cow, buy a snood, it will cover your beard up. .

They look down on us because THEY don't have an apple bum to rest their heads on and have a snooze whilst said cob is eating a haynet ? Now THAT is the most peaceful thing in the world :)
