Rant - why do people look down on you if you own a cob?

I've never been looked down on for having a cob. I've had strangers stop and admire her beeeeeeoooooteeeeful face on numerous occasions. I do find it funny how many people have terribly behaved cobs that nobody else can control. My cob lives up the stereotype completely, whilst I can just about coax a canter out of her she'll slam on the brakes for a bit of juicy grass. And big open fields? All you can eat buffet! She takes care of novice riders and is bombproof in traffic. She does spook at rotting wood though....

I dont look down on them, I admire some of them.

Take "Done to Order" who was a little 15.2hh Dun Cob ridden by Piggy French, and jumped clear around Burghley.

I also personally know of a 14.1hh coloured cob who is currently taking a young rider around some rather nice BE tracks

In fact, I've had loads of people ask me to ride their "proper" tb and wb type horses having seen how well I ride - their words - when all they've seen is us slopping along on hacks so, maybe it's just you?

It's called envy ----------- when you beat them in competition, when you are safe out hunting, when the cob passes the combine harvester without a passing glance, when you can make a bag of pony nuts last 6 months and a bale of hay a week.

Enjoy your horse and don't worry what other people think, life is too short.

I have just bought a maxi cob, hairy, itchy beastie, unschooled, unbalanced, kind as a christian, moves straight and, if you know what you are looking at, very correct. People have laughed, I will laugh when it gets to Hoys in 2013.

Droooollllllll

Its not just cobs they look down on.....

Kitty is 13'2 and because of this (despite our continuous success at competitions) we are in a constant battle with other people and particularly the PC 'organizers' etc. when we want to compete in the teams...apparently at 13'2 she is too small to do well over any height above 85 cm....

our current track record include winning the 1m sj at the pc show 2 years running (last year and about a week ago), getting to the dengie final, NSEA championships (1m team 5th, we had double clear and 105cm, 4 faults), 2 years ago we qualified for the 16 and under melplash sj and came 3rd (it was 3'0-3'3) and yesterday we won a 3ft class which qualified us for it again....
yet apparently it is still not possible that she is any way capable of competing on the PC teams at this height....

sorry, not intending to brag but just trying to make point about how ridiculous the situation is and needed a rant:)

I don't get looked down for riding Paddy! Infact, the majority of folk who see him compliment him and say he's gorgeous :D:p

Any excuse to post photo's :D

I always get looked down on, riding a 13.3 little yellow pony I'd have to be riding with Shetlands not to!

She may be little but she has been described as a pocket rocket, people who ride her usually end up laughing because she's so much fun and she's as safe as houses. My friends big event horse also has to hide behind her when out on hacks because she's his comfort blanket.

So I'm a pony squisher AND she's not even a proper cob. I often wonder what it would be like to have a 'proper' horse, then decide it can't be anywhere near as much fun.

I have a 14HH cob, built like a tank. Everyone I knew had their expensive little show ponies who knew everything growing up, and I had my mental trotter and my 1yo cob who had never had a good experience in his life.

Three years later he won every class I entered him in, jumped up to 1m (was still a baby!), people who used to laugh at me would compliment me on him and love to ride him! He's a very easy but complicated ride if that makes sense?

Its funny now though telling people about my horses, my big 16.2hh ISH and my little fat cob:) Personally I don't care what breed the horse is, its how they act. The other day my friend was jumping my other friends 13.2hh Fjord 1.15m easily!

It annoys me how people can be so just because someone elses horse doesn't look like theres, would they be doing that to people?
