Rat catching terriers

Does anyone know or heard of hiring terriers (with/without handlers) to catch rats??
We have a bit of a rat problem at the moment, and whilst I would love a couple of terrier puppies to raise as rat catchers I really haven't got the time.

We are reluctent to put down poison because of all the other animals we work so hard to keep alive and well fed!!

Failing that how do you deal with rats??

Where abouts are you? We have a Rat catcher close to us that will come out with his pack of terriers to deal with the rats, he doesn't charge a penny. He advertises in feed merchants and tack shops so may be worth looking in your local shops to see if any one near you offers that service.

Scotland is a bit far, LOL! What a shame!

See if you have any Bedlington Terrier Breeders near you - I think there is one in Essex. They are great ratters.

LOL! I have to agree, my 1/2 patterdale would think it great sport!!

Now you have got me looking at rehoming a dog and OH is not very impressed!
Seen a nice little terrier who lives in London and is looking for a home in the country because has caught 3 little furry puppies in a london park......well our rats are as big a puppies!!!

I'm so lucky dont really have a problem...but I ask my farrier to send his dog round my barn of every visit he loves catching beastlies as yet not got any cos there aint any....but he would be the best solution...
