Really shocked by this picture in horse and hound this week. Is it just me!?

A truly fit horse ( raced 7 days previous and spent the days inbetween and after on complete box rest) who keeps a bit of a belly for himself! You can see ribs but you can also see the beer belly as well as the rippling muscles!

yes!

I struggle sometimes keeping an eye on Chill's weight. Like @Chippers1 other liveries have told me she's too slim at times. What I think the problem is is that she needs to build up muscle as she does look slightly weak behind.

Pic from mid Aug last year, where she was living on grass and a balancer. Working 4-5 days per week:

And as comparison, a pic from a couple of weeks ago:

It's certainly not as flattering a photo as the one from last year but I don't think she is too skinny as people like to tell me. She does need to muscle up but it's coming with time! But I don't think she's looking too bad to say she's coming out of a crap winter having worked six days a week. She's also just starting to show some signs of age in her 19th year. I want her to stay a baby forever!

like!

This is my ID on August. She’s now a hat rack Because she’s had a tough few months but I’ve never struggled with her being too fat thankfully

Irish draughts definitely seem to come in two models. I'd like to get my hands on one that actually needs feeding more than a handful of hay and fresh air! ?

This is a full ID that I had in for a while and he is probably the easiest horse I’ve had to maintain.
He wasn’t super fit, just regular RC level of fitness. He was pretty steady and not too feed reactive. He could live out on some but not lush grass and with a bit of hay, Alfa and oats just maintained a steady 5-6 body condition score that with a bit of effort you could have gotten down to 5 no bother.

Wish they were all like that!3F348BEF-1EC7-4764-B18F-E05F06B7E929.jpeg3F348BEF-1EC7-4764-B18F-E05F06B7E929.jpeg

I bought a mare a few years ago that was the exact same weight of the horse in the picture, previous owners fatted her up . she never had laminitis which was a miracle. It was a nightmare to get her to the perfect weight it took the best part of year to get her back to normal weight.

I think showing should be more stricter rules people are doing this because they can get away with it .
