Email the screenshot with your account of what happened to your MP along with copying in the Police Commissioner asking at what point did the law change to require independent witnesses in order for a crime to be reported.
They can and should send someone round to discuss it with the the driver. Educating the driver, making a note to see if it’s a repeat offender. Yes without independent witnesses then the chance of a prosecution is remote but that should not prevent it being reported.

I'm not giving up!
As Fredd66 said, what other offences are ignored unless you have a witness or video evidence?
This is why I have a dashcam as my late Father was caught out when a taxi drove behind him and into him as he was reversing out of a carpark. If he'd have had a front and rear dashcam as i have on all three cars we drive then he would have been okay. It was obvious the taxi driver had had a previous accident and was actually totally laughable when he tried to say my Dad had done it. Despite the insurance assessor telling the insurance company the taxi driver was pulling a fast one they paid him out £12K. I will always have a hat cam for the next horse.

A chest cam is much safer than any helmet mounted cam, except for the slim strip ones that fit over your forehead and don’t protrude, can’t remember what brand they are ETA Cambox. The bullet cameras are the worst.

You risk breaking your neck if you hit your head awkwardly in a fall with a helmet mounted bullet cam.

BB can recommend one, hers is brilliant (by what I can see of the quality of the footage when she posts it on here)
Thanks @Birker2020

Mine is a techalogic which records front and rear at the same time, I would not want just a front facing camera as that does not assist with things that are going on behind you. The other factor being, its two pieces of evidence as well that really cannot be dismissed. The quality is really brilliant, not pixelated at all and you can zoom in and get clear number plate viewing.
Also it is really easy to just download to your phone.

It comes with all the attachments, and does not move or bounce on the side of my head even at canter. I take it off and attach it to the cycle helmet with just a little bolt.
I think i will buy the dc2 for riding and keep the dc1 for cycling.

Yup still no joy with the police, I'm now on the hunt for a hatcam

It doesn't do rear footage, but for those worried about their hat integrity, cambox cameras are tiny and velcro under the hat's peak.

Yes that's fine so long as you are not wearing an air jacket, in which case it would not work if you had a chest cam.
My prolite hi viz vest was always open over the top of my air jacket and I cut the side straps nearly all the way through so that if my air jacket did go it would tear the 3mm of strap and still function.

That's great, thank you so much
I am honestly more frightened of being taken out by a BMW than I am of falling off so will ask my IT support (son) about setting up the technalogic
Thanks again!

Its really easy, you download the app, switch on your camera , let it find wifi, will say dc1 connect and thats you, good to go.
Set it up for 15 minute sections, the default set up will initially set up for 3minutes and you dont want tons of 3 minute clips lol

I don’t use a hat cam as I’m worried that it might affect the safety of the hat - anyone know if that’s true or not?

My husband rigged up an Apple phone which he puts under the yellow band on my riding hat. It has a piece of rubber behind it to keep it upright. It sows a very clear picture and picks up number plates and and anyone driving too fast or shouting out "Get off the F...ing Road" and has been very useful and not as expensive as a Go Pro. Im sure this can be done with any phone.

Absolutely. A local rider had a very nasty break when she came off on the road last summer, the side mounted camera whacked her head round instead of the hat sliding 😥

Does anyone on here actually have and use a Cambox? In theory they look really good. However, I've read quite a few bad reviews and the customer service doesn't appear to be great. Would love to have some genuine opinions.

Cambox is what I bought my daughter as I didn't like the idea of something on top of the hat - for the reasons above.

Very happy with ours. Great footage. Haven't had any reason to contact customer services so can't comment there

I have to say that round here the police have been very supportive whenever I've had a problem with drivers. I do wonder what the neighbours think I've been up to though, given the frequency of the police being on my doorstep before I moved yards for quieter hacking.

Ets I just checked and our online reporting thing doesn't require witnesses or video footage for an incident to be reported.

I wish ours didn't!
I tried the online live chat thing too and also met a brick wall with that
Do you have a local police station? I know not many exist now. I reported a driver a few years back with no evidence and they did appear interested as perhaps the number plate flagged up other issues. That police station is now a pizza restaurant though.

I once reported a dangerous driving move, at the time our internet was slower than a snail so I rang the number and waited until I got through (which was quite a long time). The man I spoke to said my report would be noted (I didn't have any evidence either), they record all such reports but unless there is hard evidence they can't always do something. But he did say that if they get enough reports of the same driver, they will take action, and that you never knew if yours would be the one that triggered a police visit.
If you had the time to wait on the phone that might be a better option than banging your head against their online reporting.

Seeing the amount of cyclists with hat cams - I would definately invest in one, they are a deterrent and could provide crucial evidence in the light of an incident, I haven't heard of them causing issues with hats.
