Reporting a near miss to the police - car passing too close, too fast

I never ride on the road without my go pro on, quite often uploaded footage to the police capture page, mostly driver gets an Educational letter, last one got a warning letter, they are all logged, so worth reporting, bit of a pain, but some drivers are total 🛎️ends, so need reporting, I don't understand why so many riders don't have cameras

Seeing the amount of cyclists with hat cams - I would definately invest in one, they are a deterrent and could provide crucial evidence in the light of an incident, I haven't heard of them causing issues with hats.

The deterrent thing is really interesting. I suggested to a few people that they tape a black painted toilet roll inner tube to the top of their hats - the idiots flying along don't have time to spot it's a fake.

I have a short stretch (400m) of what should be 50 mph road to do to access a nice bridleway network. I put the camera on just for that stretch. it's straight but up a hill - you can hear the maddest people come racing up behind you (and I often get ready to step into the verge!) when they see the camera 90% slow right down - I can hear them from the engine noise.

95% of driver creep past me when I have the camera - the times I forget to pop it on - 60% race past like I'm invisible.

I think the deterrent effect is more beneficial to me than the fines my footage gets. Anyone handy with crafts could make an impact safe Blue Peter / toilet roll fake and just see the difference.

Do you attach it to your hat or body? I’ve gotten one for Christmas and got an array of attachments for it so could put it anywhere but think I will opt for somewhere on my body after reading stories here.

A friend wore a bobble hat cover on her hat for a while and she said drivers passed her much slower, presumably thinking the bobble was a camera from a distance. So I definitely think it makes people slow down and be more considerate to other road users thinking they are being recorded. (Which is really sad that it takes being recorded for them to think of other folks safety, since they clearly know they should be slowing down )

Always have go pro on front of my hat, then it records where I look, so drivers can see the camera and know I am looking at them directly, recently I have been uploading the whole clip straight from the sd card, as I cant be arsed anymore to trim it to two mins before and two minutes after the incident, so the they have to spend their time looking through it, bad enough having to sit at the pc clicking the "I am not a robot" every two minutes for the whole upload, it's almost like they don't want you to send it, they end up listening to my conversation with the horse and my extremely bad language when some idiot motorist puts me and the horse in danger.
We live in a society where it's £30 fine for accidently driving in a bus lane, yet submit footage of a vehicle flying past you at 40mph too close, or giving you two fingers for asking them to slow down flying at you, and they get an "education" letter, pathetic.
