Rider at Olympia.. NO bridle just bit..

I was hoping for a thread on this! Was a lovely round. How though does the bit stay in the horses mouth with no contact at all? Surely he'd be just willingly holding it in his mouth...wow...is that what he's doing?! Sorry, having a bit of a think out loud :)

I guess it must be allowed, I think the horse may have tounge/bit tied down as pretty sure that i saw something black! .. I know teeth have bit seats etc but I wouldnt think a bit would just stay in the mouth!

i think there was a strap round the back of the bit holding each side together if that makes sense, to lessen the chance of it coming out of his mouth

Fair enough. Can't argue with that can you. How do they lead it around at home though? Surely it can't wear a headcollar either if that's the case?

Jeez you lot are quick ! I was going to post the same thing but you beat me to it :-)

I thought it looked like some sort of chin strap or 'curb' type thing to keep it in place.

Just goes to show what you can do without a bridle.

It reminded me of Mark Smith and his 'Bitless and Brainless' team where they go team chasing in just headcollars.

quite nice that they don't feel the need to force the issue and will just let the horse be happy. Must have looked bonkers though. I missed it!

Where I lived as a child a lot of people used to ride with just a leather thong which was tied at the back in the chin groove so it didn't fall out. Seemed unexceptional then because it was so normal, but now I'd think

No - they've all had a really long bridle path....I think it's probably fashion.

Alongwith cutting the mane with scissors rather than pulling, and not bothering with the tail......

Or - plating the mane and leaving the forelock free, but cutting it straight so your horse looks like a dork with a pudding bowl haircut........

rope round the neck would be my guess, It's what I do with all my ponies. Headcollars are somewhat redundant on our yard as no one bothers. Ponies all lead quite happily from the rope.

Good on her! I'm considering using one when I back my youngster - to avoid inadvertant pressure on the poll. But then the lead and long line OK with a bridle so I may not bother - not decided fully yet...

How refreshing!!

That is very pragmatic of her. Why get a rid of a good horse if the only problem is it won't do with a bridle?? I think it shows she's a lateral thinker.

Not sure I agree that we all should now go out and ride with no bridle though...
