can someone please explain to me what riding tights are? How do they differ to johds? Many thanks
They are pretty much what they say on the tin tbh! Tights with no feet, often no side seam or zip/button fastening, sometimes with knee patches or a full seat. Obv thicker than tights, sometimes have a slight sheen, but stretchier than regular jods. Kerrits are a popular make. Hth!

(i still don't trust my rebuilt knee) !
They don't look like they'd be very flattering for people like me with a fat bum!![]()
Riding tights = American for breeches with stretchy waistbands, generally of the warm variety
I have a pair of ariat winter thermal full seat ones, and they are the mutts nuts!
Right. I'm sold. I'm going to order some of the super duper sticky ones.
I could do with some extra stickability at the moment. I know that Nitty is going to do one of her aires above the ground moments with me on soon. It is only a matter of time. She can't carry on being as good as she has been and I am not exactly mrs stickability at the best of times so every little helps!
I wish I'd known about them when I was still riding two year olds for work!!![]()
if you want winter super sticky look no further than the mountain horse polar overtrousers..... Serious stickability and toasty warm!
I had them when I was working. clearly my stickability is severely lacking as I'm sure I hit the deck more than once in them ( I don't think I was helped by the fact I was backing yearlings I guess but still..)I must be the most useless pleb in the world when it comes to sitting tight!
if the over-trousers are anything like the Musto ones, they don't help at all, because they're bulky and move over the layer underneath, which is the last thing you want. you want a tight-fitting, sticky layer between you and the saddle imho. since your weight moving even, say, 6" to the side can be enough to send you out of the side door on some horses, if there's a few inches of movement in the layers, that can be enough to start the inexorable exit...![]()
