I’ve had recent success with WHW on a bunch of similar body condition type horses - they did fanny around for a while and it did take one dying in a rather horrid manner for them to really force the issue - but they did.

I would be concerned that now RSPCA are involved they might not intervene, but might be worth a go and not mention RSPCA

The RSPCA can't do anything legally about thin, but clearly fully alive, horses with no obvious issues apart from having been short of food, who are stood in a field full of grass. Nobody can prove at this stage why they are thin.

If this was reported when they had no food, to WHW, then I think you might get a result.

I doubt the RSPCA told him they were fine, that's just his story, but there's absolutely zero they can do about it now they've been moved if they continue to have enough grass in the field.
.
I agree. Legally, if they've got the food and water, which they will have if they've been moved, they can't seize. I imagine he's just spouting bull poop to the masses and that the RSPCA is as frustrated as everyone else. They can't just walk in and take horses and need a warrant to enter premises if the owner isn't compliant (which is the case here, I should think), so no way of entering without giving the owner a heads up. There are legal implications to that which would impact them on a large scale. WHW might have more success just because their focus is advisory, but my understanding is that they work with other organisations (including the RSPCA) to seize animals; they don't have the power to do that themselves.

Re: the RSPCA and their treatment of horses in poor condition. Google the Peel case. Many years ago and related to starved and dead Arabian horses and sheep.
I thought of the Peel case too
At least these horses in Suffolk didn't end up being seized and needlessly pts :(

Contact WHW, their HQ isnt that far from there, they will send a field officer out to inspect.

Awful. It’s so distressing to watch and be unable to help.

I’m currently into the 6th week of trying to get help for a very ill pony and because she’s still on her feet and moving around, no-one will do anything.

I wish there was a clear legal way to say ‘this animal is suffering’ and have it removed on the spot.

You say it's a livery yard - what are the horses' owners doing about the situation?

Why are they still paying money for their horses to be treated liked this?

They told me they wont come out once the RSPCA have been called when I tried to do that. Same with the BHS.

This is what they’ve told me as well re the pony I’m trying to get help for. The RSPCA won’t come back, and the others won’t come at all because she’s been seen. The fact that she’s getting worse doesn’t matter.

I keep hoping I’ll go past the field and find her dead.

Update. WHW wouldn’t come out in the summer as RSPCA had said they were absolutely fine ! Locals have been very concerned with condition as winter approached. This is them now. And one down. Could be dead as it’s gone.

Can WHW or BHS go out now that espca have washed their hands of the case?

Could you go to local papers?

We’ve reported and emailed WHW again today. She’s cunning as she moves them around. And has security camera up. You can’t always see them. Truck took the one down away. They are in an appalling condition. All charity ex racers.

That really boils me. I hope the temperatures aren’t too cold where you are, some of these look like they won’t stand a chance. I’d push again for WHW now that we’re almost in Winter. I don’t know anyone that would think these poor sods are in acceptable condition. I really don’t know how folk sleep at night.

Those poor horses have no hope of making it through winter 😢. Having dealt with something similar, do you have a local FB group/rescue that could get involved? If there's enough publicity the charities are more likely to act. Somebody could make a fake FB profile to contact them and get the photos out there. Our local council Animal Welfare Officer was also really helpful in liaising with the charity.

That is absolutely awful beyond words. The RSPCA are utter s**te, I have called them over a similar emaciated hoarding type case in the past from a known neglecter and they did nothing at all. It's always the smaller rescues picking up the pieces. I'm so sorry exracehorse, it must be awful to see them suffering like that and feel powerless 🙁

This. post on every FB group you can find and have it go viral. The RSPCA might suddenly become interested when they get a 100 calls a day from concerned people on facebook.

Second contacting the Mail. It might not be some peoples favourite paper but for something like this they will give it national attention - particularly as you've got such good pictures.

Emphasise that the RSPCA refused to do anything and that their involvement is stopping WHW doing anything due to the 'gentlemans agreement' there is between the rescue charities.

They haven’t been seen in the fields for past few days. We are concerned she’s moved them again. To a different area. Rented another field ? Friend is going to try and get through hedge and see if she’s hidden them away by the old silo. Soooo many posts have been put up about her and the horses on Sudbury Facebook groups. And equestrian groups. The owner then complains to Facebook and group admins and they are removed. Anyone who replies to the posts are then sent private messages advising she’s going to sue and police are involved etc etc. IF they are still there, we are hoping WHW will visit her ASAP as they have been updated with new evidence and possible death of one. Our concerns are that she’s done a runner. It’s 3 degrees here in east Anglia and raining for 24 hours.
