Hi

I have just purchased a new horse which is a heavy draft breed and need some rug advice.

Can i ask if anyone with heavies rug them? If so what with?

She was in a Rambo xl is this the only option?

Thanks
Jane

Weatherbeeta do rugs up to 7' 6" if you're looking for something a bit cheaper than a Rambo, you could try Equestrian Clearance Warehouse.

I have a big IDXTB stands at 17.3 weatherbeata fit good round the neck and shoulders but any with a full neck are too tight ....Shires fit her fantastic...I presume you mean neck wise as that is what I always struggle with...

MY lad is a MW but deep in neck and broad in shoulders, Masta, Shires and Mark Todd are all that fit him - Rambo's/Amigo's all to narrow - not tried an XL though as personally don't rate Rambo

Premier equine for Dolly who is now a very broad 17.2hh Shirex. I find they are deep enough to cover her tummy & sit well infront of the wither.

my friend has a 17.3 clysdale
the only rug that fits him properly is his rambo XL, he has a range of weatherbeeta turnouts, none of which are deep enough, and all are tight around the neck, but they are the only rugs she could find in 7'6"
she uses a cheast expander which does help with the fitting

On our clydes - Cairo was a mere 16.3 and Farra is 17 hands but will probably be about 17.2, I have had weatherbeetas which have fitted well, mark todds - stable rugs and again a good fit, amigos - but the amigos had to be a size up as the neck is not that generous.

I have also had rugs from these people on ebay and they have been a very generous fit - and these go up to 8' and are very well priced and excellent quality for the price. I have also bought several of their rug and been really pleased with them.

These are excellent stable rugs - I have two of them and they are far better than more expensive brands.

I have a 17hh well built ID and having used almost every name on the market find I prefer Mark Todd and Premier Equine as they are the only ones that seem to be deep enough and dont make her look like she's wearing a miniskirt!! Mark Todd also, should you buy a combo rug have an extra piece in the neck which means it doesn't ride up the horses neck when they have their head down, which is brilliant when you have a grey who likes to get dirty!!!
