I keep coming back to this hoping someone has taken her. Unfortunately I'm going away for 2 weeks and would not pay for a field ornament. My OH would say no ( but I'm leaving a key to the field gate and he probably wouldn't notice another one slipped in) 😉

I don’t think she looks too bad, apart from the obvious underweight.

Don’t do what I did and think “She’s old, at least it won’t be a long commitment, I’ll just give her a happy end”. Pony is still here 5 years later and showing no signs of going anywhere. She’s absolutely ancient, with proper Queen Anne legs, but still gleefully cantering round the field 😂. Of course, after all this time, I’m now very attached, so will be very sad when her time comes.

I can't imagine why anyone would pay for a companion (particularly one that looks like it'll need care) when you can get one free from a charity. Presumably they expect a dealer to buy her, feed her up and sell her on as a riding horse. It might happen.

Or they've had 30 calls from us lot and think there must be a demand for poor old mares 😢

posting here in hopes someone can give her a soft landing, she looks quite poor and no age stated as presumably pretty elderly, will probably get flack but really do wish people would just pts their oldies than do this to them

^^^ Exactly this.

Poor old gal, makes my heart break too OP. How hard is it for someone to do the right thing instead of passing the decision on to someone else.

If the field she's in in the picture (with plenty of grass) is the one she's usually in then she'll need plenty of feed, vet care, TLC (and a hefty dose of cash) to get her looking well. Poor thing - I think its awful they're trying to get money for her when she deserves a loving retirement.

How sad. Surely the owner must see that it’s going to cost her asking price (and then some) to get her into a good shape. They’re clearly not bothered about doing that themselves, but in not taking an offer, they’re denying anyone else with a sensible head on their shoulders to make that happen for her.

If someone was able to offer her a good and knowledgeable home I'd happily set up a standing order to help fund the care she so obviously needs. Could some of us chip in with say maybe a tenner a month or something? Wouldn't take too many of us to contribute a little bit (perhaps in memory of those we've loved and lost?) to secure her future for however long it may be. And she could be (maybe the first) H&H crowd funded rescue?

Perhaps a visit from a welfare charity would make them think..... I know shes old but thats no excuse for looking so poor. I know 30 year olds looking much better than that.
My 30yr old is dippy-backed, but still hurtles round his field, winds his mates up and does his "airs above the ground" lark when his groom brings him in. However, he is managed by his breeder, who has an encyclopedic knowledge of Arabian horse management and his family tree. He gets the best of everything. If he gets unmanagable colic or any other chronic illness, he'll be pts. My vets have a signed instruction on his notes to that effect, which says that the YO can authorise that if they are unable to contact me.
My mantra for animals and people is "Do not strive to keep alive at all costs."

They won't take less then £800 for her. Asked if they'd take any less then asking price, came back with £800. I offered £500 but don't seem they want to budget from £800 for anyone interested.
It wouldn't be at all surprising if the sellers were aware of this thread and think they'll get their money as a pity buy. I have a DD special, but he's small and costs little to keep but I paid more than he was worth.
