Oh MavandKaz - I appear to be doing medium 73 in a couple of weeks - any feedback on how you found it would be useful. Hope you have a good outing.

I have no doubt that it will be interesting, due to lack of practice, but we are only doing it for ourselves anyway! One of our counter canters is very sketchy so currently picking tests that don't contain it - which limits us a little.
Will let you know how it rides.

Hacking & more hacking :D

Saturday I'm hacking to meet up with a friend and their pony for a ride from their - hopefully with a tea & cake stop somewhere.

We have friends over on Saturday night so it may not be an early start on Sunday for a solo hack ? I'm hoping to have enough time to bathe pony, (or at least wash his tail as it looks pretty minging) before a family BBQ.

Tried the orbitless bridle attachment on the microcob this morning. One of the gardens by the arena had kindly put one of those bird scaring kite things up and given it was windy and she's not THAT bombproof I decided to try out the new bitless option in the field. No Brakes At All.

She hated it and showed me by shoving her head down to the floor and bogging off in pony trot while I tried to engage my core to slow her down and get her on a circle. We did a lot of trotting in the hope she would settle and remember what a riding pony is supposed to do so my thigh muscles ache and the pony still hates the orbitless. I've emailed them some photos to see if I've actually put it on right or if needs to go back (trial thankfully) Saddle fit on Sunday so I think we'll be going back to the rope halter for that

First time I've ever taken a horse bitless who wasn't already established bitted. Its hard work. My friend has entered us for an e-riders intro test. Never has a walk, trot dressage test seemed so unachievable!

Well I have already had my excitement for the week end! Went out early with my local friend riding my companion pony and myself on veteran brought back into work. We popped into a stubble field and had a terrific run up the side. Companion pony has turned into a real pocket rocket and my old girl catches the spirit! It will just be lead and ride till Monday now.

Horse shiz for the week for me has now finished!

Rooni was 3rd in his first ever music AF today (medium silver). New venue for him so we had a few moments of tension and green-ness. One big whopper mistake but such is life. Comments made sense for a score of 66.17% which felt a bit low but it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme.

We narrowly missed out on 2nd and a qualifying ticket for this class but I still only wanted to take him home! He will have a couple of well earned days off now, as will I!

People-y weekend starts here :)

Schooling Ludo at home, which is just pure pleasure. He's got the idea of flying changes, just late behind most of the time at the moment, he's having trouble getting his brain and legs coordinated ?

Chewing the ends off my fingers before Deza's vetting on Monday. Keep your fingers crossed.

Our first DC although we had time (again). 4 time in the show jumping, but only 9 seconds over xc - that's our best yet. This time a year ago we were a full minute over round elands 70 course!
Bit of a lack lustre dressage so we're sort of mid div but all in all a successful day

No lessons for me for another couple of weeks. Combo of funds/time getting in the way at various points.

But! I did have a nice little hack out yesterday with my friend and we're heading out again tomorrow. The weather has been so fabulous for it and my confidence is still on the up. Not that I don't get nervous at all but am getting better at riding through it, keeping my legs on and sitting up, thinking forward and not looking too much for stuff to worry about!

Home from our ride through Chester zoo. Millie was a star. She’s come so far from the horse who I couldn’t take out on my own as spent the whole time screaming and spinning. She now stands tied to the wagon and copes with horses coming and going. She happily took the lead when my friends horse got nappy and was just an absolute pleasure to be sat on.

I’ve had a fab weekend . My homebred 4yo is now back in work and I had my first sit on him . Super chuffed with him as So far he appears to be very chilled and level headed. No action shots as it was a last minute thing. So just a random head over door photo
But today was even better went for the test ride clinic . Absolutely loved it Sarah Dobell is lovely and really helped us both . She picked up on loads of things , so we have a fair bit to do before the breed show next week . Kelsall a new facilities are fabulous.

We got caught in one shower that lasted about 10/15 minutes- sort of weird Misty rain but we were up at the zoo then so protected by trees and things. Hope your daughter had a great time!

Sadly I’ve got no photos to show for it as went by myself and this venue doesn’t have a photographer for UA things but Pepsi was AMAZING. I’m so happy, and feel so very lucky, I could quite honestly cry.

We only did 70cm and 80cm but the fences there are always quite full up. 70cm we went clear. 80cm had one pole where there was a minor braking/steering issue and I ended up presenting him on a very questionable angle on a godawful stride, totally not his fault. He’s never been anywhere like that before as far as I know, and as soon as I was on board he was a total pro. Super chilled to stand by the ring and watch other rounds, and just so bold, honest and willing to all the fences. It feels so good to jump a horse who loves it.

He wasn’t super keen on standing tied to the trailer with all the horses going past, got a bit stressy and spinning side to side. He’s fine leaving other horses, but does get a bit anxious when they leave him, even if he can see others. Something to work on I suppose. And if that’s the only hangup, I can live with that. he’ll just have to stay in the trailer with the windows shut between classes for now.

Overall SO pleased with him, I can’t get over how good he felt! The future is (hopefully) exciting!

Perfectly timed rain ☺️

She’s just back and is buzzing about it . Said she saw the elephants and a rhino , apparently Finn didn’t spook at anything apart from the people on the bridge ?? . I think me and Pip will have to venture out on the next one

OH is home this week so built a course for him to have a spin around, hopped on after myself for a quick round.
Bit of a dodgy stride over a related distance - took it in 3 rather than 4 first time…
CCC80069-3F09-4807-B8D8-F8C4220DEC6B.jpeg
Came back around and remembered to ride between the two fences - much better.

Another pic just because it was flattering ?

Very pleased with him, built some dodgy lines deliberately and he tackled it nicely, ranging from 90-1m.
Xc lesson during the week planned with a local eventer, and possibly going to a 2 phase next weekend, just deciding on height - probably going to go for the 80cm max for a confidence building run.

Sounds like a great weekend all round!

Bo saw the physio on Friday and I'm happy to report that I have not ruined his back! ? Just need to work on building muscle and be strict about keeping him straight when I ride him.

Another great lesson this morning. Worked on insisting that he carries me forward and stays in trot until I ask him to walk. His trot felt fab, who knew Fell ponies could fly!

Looking forward to hacking out tomorrow.

Have had a great weekend, tho am shattered now!
Epic long hack yesterday morning with hacking chum and her son, having boxed over to local yard to park up there.
Good long day out today, left yard before 8.30 and back about 5, having trundled over to Munsted for an RC day camp. Did sj, xc and stressage. B was an absolute star with the sj, rather hesitant with xc tho popped all asked and knuckled down for stressage pretty well, managing some pretty decent leg yielding.
Just waiting for DH to finish watching his racing and then to get the promised Chinese takeaway.
Well done to those competing successfully, fun ride sounded a good one too! ?

Well we abandoned our plan A as the farrier decided to turn up at 6 am to trim all 4 horses - I was so knackered from waking up all night not to be late for him that I couldn't quite face 'skool' for Alw so we went for a family ride with Alw being able to realise her birthright; shepherding!! My FIL had some ewes and lambs on the hill that he hadn't been able to gather in the week so OH, myself and daughter rode up to find and collect the strays. It is a stiff climb up to the hill which was good for rebuilding fitness and when we got onto the hill Alw was BRILLIANT - literally a complete natural and sheep were found, rounded up, cut out of the rest of the flock and escorted to 'their' hill gate. The ewes we were collecting are only young and were bought from Mid-Wales so haven't got quite used to their hill here yet; they need a bit of help learning where to go to get to the farm bless them. :) The bit where we had a quad, dogs AND shouting resulted in some somewhat unneccessarily high spirited behaviour on Alw's part but she was generally fabulous and soooooo much better than my hot head arab who finds the whole shepherding thing waaaay too exciting lol!! It was great to see too that no wind issues were apparent and we had several wonderful canters when we weren't 'on duty'. How I adore this mare!! She has the most wonderful 'thinking' ability and is just fun, fun, fun. :) :) She aced ditches, boggy bits, gorse bushes and free running horses right next to her bless her. I feel enormously priveleged to have these wonderful animals in our life. I will try to deal with the planned simple changes this week too though.

Well Kira did her Grudging Trudging.

Frankel did a couple of good lessons, we have a vague understanding of what the bit might *mean* plus ticked the box of saddle wearing and some vague impression of lunging ? very difficult on the side of a hill but that'll get him considering his feet won't it ?

Big one for us- the national championship combined with the first selection event for the British team 2022

New PB in the dressage to get the best score of the championship ??0CBED98C-F367-4898-B27D-C40FECF23764.jpeg
Then tried our best XC to let one those pesky boys ahead
4F053817-3078-434C-A1A6-742E2B906902.jpg
Rattled him slightly which then meant an u characteristic cones round today but finished as reserve 3* advanced national champions with good points into the selection league ??
Awesome quirky little horse…
