Seriously fed up with the rain!!!!

I think we have been spoilt with the lovely summer followed by a very mild and dry Autumn. We do need the rain though, to fill all those empty reservoirs.
Best just to invest in some good waterproofs if you have to ride.
 
I would crack on with good waterproofs.

Look at most horses in the rain and wind, they rarely raise their head and are not fussed. I think we make more of a fuss as we don’t spend 24 hours a day outside.

Atleast the ground is finally softening up here!
 
Yey ...I got to ride this morning.....in the rain nonetheless ??
It wasn't actually too bad once we were out, I think it's finding the motivation to get out that's the worst part!!

I don’t particularly like riding in the rain but if I didn’t ride every time it rained, I would never ride in winter! My trouble is how tired these dark winter days make me, the winds been bad here this week too and with how spooky my welsh can be on a good day, I’m not risking it in the wind.

I’m thinking of investing in an equidry coat so I’m less soggy and cold, he doesn’t mind the rain it’s me that does! Mostly it’s fine to ride in but I agree with others it can be too risky sometimes when combined with wind. I tend to lunge on these days, it’s more like flying a kite but at least he’s exercised!

My friends both ordered a cheaper version of the equidry and they love it
 
We have had a fair bit of rain in the last couple of weeks. Only the roof water that runs directly into a drain has made it to the ditch, the stuff landing on the fields is not running through the land drains yet.

Are those complaining about the rain the same people who said that they would not complain after the heat and drought of the summer?

Just ride in it. Waterproof saddle cover to ride on. Waterproof trousers and jacket for you. Waterproof yard boots or wellies. Shower when you get home. We just ignore the weather and ride anyway. So much less stressful - I like a nice routine much more than I dislike getting wet!

I agree. If we worried about the weather no one would ever ride their horse.

I bought the lighter version of the Equidry a few weeks ago and it’s the best purchase I’ve made in horse clothing I’ve made for a long time. I’ve made full use of it and wore it today for riding in and remained dry in a downpour. The only thing I’d say was the back flap of the jacket needed occasional readjusting during riding. Well worth the money.

Don't beat yourself up, you have to make the right decision for the time. As you say, it's not safe when you're too knackered to react appropriately.

This is also my decision making process. Raining is ok. Raining with gusts above 25mph, no thank you. Horse agrees. Shuffling sideways for an hour is No Fun.

ETA, my Life Changing Moment was the purchase of a DoPo coats riding skirt. The best £45 -ish I think I've ever spent.

I think it gives you the option to layer up underneath as needed. I’m in South East and most of winter doing chores or riding the original would be far too hot.

I was warm today in summer riding tights, tee shirt and lite equi dry in rain. But it was warm!

I agree, ideally I need something to ride in but the equidry does look very bulky for riding. May have to resort to one of the good old long riding macs!

My long mac soaks the back of my legs, I am going to buy the equidry lite, its less bulky and still has all the bells and whistles ?
 
I looked at the Equidry but even a light fleece lining would be too thick I think.
In winter I wear a T shirt with a sweatshirt over it plus an inadequate, waterproof -wise, mesh lined jacket and an air jacket.
If the coat was fleece lined except in the coldest of weathers, when I wouldn’t ride, I would melt.
A mesh lined Equidry would perhaps be ideal and easy for layering.
I am intrigued by the DoPo skirt though.
 
I have an equidry for very wet days but not for riding. I know people who love them for riding but I think I'd rather stick to a decent jacket and waterproof trousers. It's basically a dry robe with zips up the side and slightly more tapered arms. And no itchy lining. Saying that I would possibly be tempted by a thin lined hi Viz one though.


It is waterproof though, and I live in a place where most waterproof jackets do not stay waterproof for 6 months... Or even at all.
