It was the SHB(GB) Stallion Grading today at Addington, I can't give you the full list for horses that have past because we didn't watch everyone

Well done Mat and Teddy

This is how our day went
grin.gif

He was a little bit naughty in the trot up, he decided that standing square just wasn't the done thing anymore and he also decided that he fancied his daddy and got his willy out for assesment as well **sniggers**

grin.gif
(luckily it was clean because he like having it hosed during his baths

)

Then came the ridden assessment, on the flat he was a really good boy and was really trying (he had his little I am trying REALLY hard look on, which everyone adores
smirk.gif
), he didn't go quite as well as he does usually but thats because he hasn't done much for a couple of weeks because he hasn't got a saddle that fits well at the moment, he's waiting for an appointment with the saddle fitter because he has changed shape soooooo much recently that his almost new dressage saddle doesn't touch him anymore and none of the other saddles between our two yards fit him well either but we took him in Cordy's show jumping saddle
blush.gif
which was the best of the bunch...

He then had to jump under saddle, which he behaved beautifully in, he was really relaxed and really seemed to enjoy popping round the fences
grin.gif

Then came the loose assesment and loose jumping, he really trotted lovely loose and was very pingy and he loose jumped really well, though did start to look a little tired towards the end and started giving us the... can we stop now look everytime he came round to where we were holding him whilst they adjusted the fences...

So we stopped outside and because we were in the second from last of the morning session, we only had to wait a few minutes to find out if he had past or not and he had

grin.gif
I can't remember what all of his scores were because you have to give the sheets back and they send them out later... but the ones that stuck in my memory were an 8.5 for paces, carriage and elasticity (absolutely delighted with that!!
grin.gif
) 8 for his loose jumping
grin.gif
AND he also scored highly for his jumping under saddle which we were delighted with has he has hardly done any jumping at all really... he show jumps occassionally for fun at home but not often and has been on one outing to Summerhouse on course hire day but they had also written a lovely comment about how relaxed, willing and attentive he was in the jumping under saddle bit, which was lovely!!

I think Mat has done a fantastic job with Teds and Teddy is a real credit to him and his attention to schooling

Well done

Ted was a star, and again recieved comments about his fabulous attitude and outlook! He was a bit sore in his back today but still graded comfortably so he obviously deserved his big green rosette!

Was very proud of him in the loose jumping especially as before last night, he hadnt done it since last year, but he looked like a pro!

Big congrats to Mat and Teddy! Especially well done as it sounds as though the judging was really tough, see below -

Very interested to see if anyone has the full results? There were apparently a couple of very surprising and apparently controversial fails, one of which we were considering for one our mares this year, so would be interested if anyone took notes/has comments on the stallions presented ....

Out of 19 stallions forward, 7 past they were:

Revolution 1994 TB Suave Dancer/Dom Racine
Unlimited R 2001 KWPN Burggraaf/Don Juan
CVS Hot Business 2003 AES Renkum Valentino/Its the Business
Wish Upon a Star 2003 KWPN Gribaldi/Houston
Champagne 2004 Hannovarian Contendro/Pinkus
Capitoll 2005 Holstein Cassini I/Corrado I
Belou du Chene 2005 AES Balou du Rouet/Ugene du Chene

**runs off like a lunatic to look at photos**

so zubin r failed his grading again then??

It appears so... I emailed SHB this morning for the list of horses that past and the ones listed are the only ones that they said past... we saw Zubin R in his trot up and he moved lovely but we didn't see him under saddle and only got a glimpse of him loose so I can't tell you how he went.

LLT2 I feel really sorry for you and the other stallion owners...but the majority of those pictures are shocking!!

OMG I have never seen a professional photographer take such awful pictures! Granted they have taken a "few" good ones, but 89% of the pictures do not put the stallions in good light, and show some of them to have really bad jumping techniques, both in front and behind.

Am I not right in thinking that the people who took the pictures have been the focus of discussions before on their poor picture taking??? Either that or the majority of stallions forward were of poor quality...which if only 7 passed would suggest that! The only good thing is that only 7 did pass, because going by the pictures alone (and I ask readers to note what I have said here before they jump down my throat) the others were not great.

Think the SSH pictures that Opie took are by far superior to those taken at the SHBGB grading!

I am going to open up a can of worms with the following statement
grin.gif
....but...call me picky but are some people completely blind as to what they would class as a decent stallion (even for those who are not looking for a world beater!). The more I see what some people put forward for stallion gradings, the more I think that the UK will never have a hope in hell in their breeding prospects for the future!

I have to say I agree with you Anastasia, based on those photos alone I am surprised even 7 passed. Some of them were really undesirable stallion types. And how difficult is it to take a photo of a horse correctly stood up and side on!
I really wanted to go and see the grading for myself but annoyingly hospital appointments got in the way again.

But a massive congratulations to Horse Groupie on her success, bet you're over the moon.

I would also agree with what you are saying as well Volatis...

BTW how are your injuries?? Was very sorry to hear about what happened to you.

Am also sitting here with my leg all strapped up. Fell down a set of marble stairs in Stavanger, Norway last week while changing planes in a hurry!! Only went for x-rays today! Left leg is like the elephant woman but the radiographers dont think I have broken or fractured anything although my leg is badly swollen and black to get a proper look
shocked.gif
. Have been told to sit with it elevated which is not easy when you have horses!
grin.gif

Note to self...never run down stairs without having a good hold on the banister...no matter how little time you have between flights...
grin.gif

Luckily the stallions are assessed on the day and not the photographs...
wink.gif
photographs don't always tell the whole story, the photographer can make all the difference...
smile.gif
I mean who takes flash pictures facing a window for a start...
crazy.gif
I think the photos I have taken myself (with a simple digital camera) are better quality than the professional ones (see signature Teddy pictures
wink.gif
), also I just been and looked at one of the stallions we did see that we really liked and passed, and he looks nothing in his pictures at all, they are all at the wrong angle or the wrong moment
mad.gif

But I am not going to let shoddy photography spoil the result
