Hi Everyone!

I am looking for some inspiration. I am planning on schooling my companion New Forest pony up to elementary level (eventually) and to try and get him out to some low key shows (just for fun :) )

Please show me your lovely dressage ponies (at all levels!).

Thanks in advance - picture of my future dressage superstar

Ooh i can play , here's my 14.2 Welsh D. She's secure at Inter 1 level at the moment and we're eyeing up I2 next year. We have got some promising 1 tempis and she's got the idea of piaffe quite well but we're a bit stuck waiting for the passage penny to drop at the moment.

I never thought she'd be up to this work, but she was a project that turned out to be unsellable so we've just kept on training.

Here is my old New forest pony competing at dressage, he is actually about 25/6 in this pic too! What he lacked in big paces he made up for in rhythm and correctness and always scored well :).

Wow! He looks great! How wonderful to still be able to have fun with them when they are in their mid 20s :) and it must be a genetic thing but most newfies i meet are bay with star :) but they are always adorable!

I have seen your posts before and I always think what a gorgeous girl she is. I got Harry (my pony) initially as a project but I grew too attached and he has the right personality to gel with my dominant dressage mare :p I was pleasantly surprised to find that he is a super straightforward pony and has taken to dressage really well - to be honest he is a lovely break from my complicated mare D: and he has such a fun go get it personality. Good luck with your passage!

I admit that your boy is a favourite H and H pony of mine! He looks like such a fun pony. I have half a thought of getting a NF stallion next time round to bring on for dressage and stud :p I lost my last stallion a few years ago to old age and I do miss having one around.

I think all ponies get away with murder, my pony is a serial escape artist, especially if he thinks he has not been given enough food D: but you gotta love them!

thanks for your replies so far everyone :)

Thank you! He was very cheeky and sharp as a tac but he loved his dressage. I'm sure yours will be great too :).

My youngster forester (top photo) is just starting his dressage career and booked in for his first BD at the end of the month.

Bottom photo is my older Forester who loathes dressage but will tolerate it if she’s allowed to jump after.

A lot of friends have competed their foresters up to medium

No photos but I'm riding a 13.2 hairy coloured traditional cob who's had 72% or better in all prelims so far, first novice booked in for a few weeks time and working nicely at home on the novice moves. It's lovely to see people at competitions change their mind about him once they see the scores ;)

I'm a bit of a convert to ponies TBH

Struggling to find any pics of him actually doing dressage but my little highland has a very busy brain and enjoys schooling and working. We are only doing intro at the mo, but trying to get his canter good enough for Prelim next season.
Off to BD Quest Regionals this weekend. Wish us luck

This is Millie, 15hh and 10 years old. Competing at prelim, but training between novice and elementary at home (more elementary, after a swift quick up my backside by my trainer!)
My plan was to get her to elementary and be extremely proud of myself but trainer said we’ll get her to advanced so that’s what we are working towards.

We also hack and go out to farm rides for a good blast and to play over little jumps. She’s a super all-rounder but as spooky as they come!

Texenstar, shortstuff99 and Kizzy2004, please provide registered names of your fab NF ponies. Confirmed anorack here!

NF do make great dressage stars and excellent all rounders.
Mine was unregistered unfortunately and long before passports came about! He died about 5 years ago now at 32!

I had a registered NF pony and we did well at combined training as she had a fab jump too. She was Longcopse Sunbeam, I had her for 25 years.
She was a Slipper line pony.

I had the pleasure of having a NF on loan when I was 13, he had no papers either.

They can hold their own in a dressge arena against horses. ?

There was (possibly still is) a new forest stallion, Willoway Highland Malt local to us when I was younger, I used to think he was brilliant . He used to do well in dressage against warmblood etc. Unfortunately New forests are a rarity up here! I keep saying one day I'll take a box to the Beauleiu road sales.

Lovely pair! I love how she will only put up with dressage if she gets some jumping out of it too! You should do those dressage classes that have the jumps in them!

Thank you. I evented her and dressage was a means to an end. She dislikes flatwork in the arena at home and was hard work but stick a jump in front of her and she’d jump anything. The boy is a bit more buzzy and loves doing anything, I’m aiming for badminton grassroots with him.

The breed is so versatile and they have good brains on them and full of character.

Love him, I see you on Facebook all the time. Do you have your own page? If not you should do. You and 'Poridge' are my inspirations ?
