Sorry, can’t post pic.
Fast approaching 21 although only passported at “5” so possibly not accurate, is my welsh x (Newfie looking!) boy. He developed sore feet last week for the first time so instad of his preferred 24/7 turnout he is trying to break records for the messiest overnight stable ever...??

Monty aged 22 in this pic, now 24, winning the best old codger in town prize. He’s since become the world’s biggest pony club pony (at 17hh) taking his owner’s 13 yr old son around 80xc courses last summer.
And Archie, doing what Archie does best - whatever suits him. He’s also 24 (according his passport, issued when he was “9” but dentist and vet suspect he could be around 26/7) but life has been less kind to him so he hasn’t done much for the last few years, except a bit of hacking. He had his coffin joint injected in Sept and since then most of our hacking has been done sideways so I think he’s feeling good!

Loving all the oldies. ?
most recent one on my phone--before it all turned to mud ?
My little chestnut girl is 27, still ridden but no crazy galloping around or jumping due to old injury. (as much as she still tries to pee off in canter ?) I am now debating putting her front shoes back on as she hates walking on stones esp now it's so wet! I really hoped she'd get used to it as I thought it would be better for her not to have shoes at her age for a bit of hacking and fun rides but maybe too much to ask after 20odd years?

This is Alex, he will be 21 this year, I bought him when he was 15/16. He retired in late winter of 2019 after another long period of lameness. He has Cushings disease and arthritis in various joints but he is happy enough in his retirement and till kicks his heels up from time to time. I really hope he'll get through this spring and summer without too much trouble, but it is a worry as he tends to find it tough when the seasons change.

I have done this with my mare. She had her shoes off after she was officially retired by our top class vet surgery when she was 17/18. For ages it seemed she was unhappy on the hard core but she struggled on. Two years ago we moved her home and had a new hardcore area outside the stables, she struggled with this despite my farrier testing her hooves to check for soreness. The end of this summer I called it quits and had shoes put back on her fronts and she is just so much happier. We hack out walk and trot on the roads no problem.........the prolonged rest seems to have made her comfortable in her body and the front shoes are just the finishing touch. However, companion pony who came with shoes now has them off and hasn't shown even the slightest discomfort on any surface! Some it works for, some it doesn't.

The sun was shining today so decided to take Kiki for a walk in hand. A good groom and off we went and I could hardly keep up with her. Really pleased how she has come through this winter. She has a touch of mud fever that I’m treating but not bad for a 42 year old with cushings.
