So today I said goodbye to my best friend. For 2 years, he's been the one I've gone to when work hasn't been going great, or when I've had an argument in my relationship. He knows all my secrets, and has soaked up my tears many times.

But from today I can no longer call him mine. He was picked up, and after a 6 hour journey, he's a long way from 'home'.

He's the horse of a lifetime, and I can't believe he's gone. There's a massive smoke shaped hole missing in me already. But he has gone to the very best of homes I could ever have wished for!

Please join me and wish him and his new family the very best of luck!

So, to show him of one last time, here are some pics I took of him :)

Our last ride together

And one of his face, because he's so gorgeous :)

Transporters were an hour and a half late, so he had plenty of grazing in that time

He looks so sad to be going :(

No real reason for the random post, just feeling very sad and empty right now :(

I wish him and his new owner lots of luck and hope that they have many wonderful years together.

You must miss him so much BB. Will they give you an update, just so that you know that he's settled in ok?

What a mix of feelings. I was dreading what this thread might be, but now I share your sadness at "losing" your boy and the gladness he has found a great home to go to. Will the new owners be keeping in touch with his progress? Lovely pictures and good memories for you. Well done with him, I hope he settles in well and that you will keep busy while you adjust. <<Hugs>>

I'm sure his new home will treat him fabulously. Small consolation to you though, when you say goodbye to such a super chap. I will certainly join you in wishing them luck :)

Faracat, sorry on my phone so can't quote.

Yes. I've had an update that he was too busy stuffing his face to bother caring about his new neighbour, typical smoke, belly first before chatting lol.

New owners are fab, got them on Facebook to view pics, and hear updates, have invited me down anytime I like to visit him, and you never know, HHO might even get the updates from his new owner ;)

Just a quick word to say he's scoffing hay merrily in his stable, settled really happily and Al snuck up after work this evening to do a final check on him and he was a very chilled out boy. He's an utter credit to you and I hope that we can do him justice. You know we're only an email/ phonecall/ drive away and we'll keep you as updated as you like :)

Thanks for letting Al have him, so he can help her move on from Bee. Her smile was literally ear to ear all day on Sunday after she'd tried him and he will be as spoilt rotten as can be.

ETA: definitely HHO updates, if that's ok with you!

Lolo I had a feeling you were interestedin him, I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses!

Showpony, no I definitely couldn't have found a better home! They seemed to click straight away, and I know they will be a great team.

Lolo, thanks for the update, he's so funny, always rocks up to a new yard, and head straight down for food haha, such a piggy pony!

I'm so glad you guys have him, it's been a horrible day, but definitely made better knowing you have him. And thank you so much for the offer of updates, I will always be interested! Hope he does help her move on from Bee. I know nothing will ever replace her, but I hope he will take the edge off of the pain.

A sad day for you but I know he has gone to the best of homes and you can keep updated on his progress.

Good luck smokey and Al :)

What a heartwrenching but happy post at the same time!
Good luck in your new home smokes, from lolo's updates I think even I would Be happy selling my horse to a rider like al. Xx

Oh wow, so exciting that Al has him - can't wait to see how he progresses. Thought he looked like real potential from the videos, so pleased he is staying in the HHO family as it were! :)

Wishing new owners lots of happy times with him and sending hugs your way OP x

Also on a separate note, I think we have spoken before.....you almost bought a saddle from me this time last year for Smokey :). X

What a bittersweet post; although I cannot think of a nicer HHO owner for a horse to go to!

Looking forward to lots of Smokey & Al reports - You are both so lucky, what a beautiful horse :)

What a sad day for you :(

But I don't think you could have asked for a better home / rider for him! At least he's always going to be in the Public (HHO ;)) eye all the time so there will be no losing touch.

Good luck to all x

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm feeling better today, but not sure it's actually hit me yet! I sound so pathetic, but he's such an amazing horse it's hard not to :(

I'm glad everyone has agreed the home he had is perfect, I had so many idiots call up about him, it really does soften the blow knowing where he is now, and what he will be doing with all the potential he has that I would never be able to get out of him!

SmartieBean09, small world! I went for a GFS saddle in the end, fitted him lovely until he lost all the condition at his loan home, but now he's filling out again after putting so much weight on over winter, it's beginning to fit him again now :)

I can't wait for updates either, definitely helps selling a horse to someone you know will let you know how he gets on :)

Just a quick update- he's out with donkey and the giant ginger today. He has made firm friends with the ginger and has been given a tour of the field and was shown all the best spots for eating and rolling, but donkey is holding out for something to impress him :D

In his stable- it opens out onto the house as well as the yard so if he's ever in for a longer period he gets a good view and everyone walking past HAS to stop and give you a polo :D

Giant ginger horse giving a guided tour- bear in mind Smokey is 15.2hh, when I say giant, I really do mean ridiculously big! He's not the biggest on the yard though, but Reg gets to play with him.

And all 3 of the boys together.

He has settled really well, and is very busy munching away. Thank you so much for replying to my PMs and then letting them try him- Al was in love the moment she saw him, and he will be loved and cherished by all of us.

There will be HHO updates- he's a bit of an HHO horse now! There'll be videos on her youtube of all their lessons and comps as well, and in my sig is Al's blog where he'll have a starring role!

Thanks for the pics Lolo, he looks so happy already!

Definitely sounds like he's got the best stable, and it looks massive, bet he thinks he's died and gone to heaven! Especially prime polo position ;)

What did he think of Donkey? We have some up by the yard and he used to look at them in such a confused way lol.

Glad she loved him, and as I will continue to say, I'm glad you have him! Thank you for messaging me about him to start with.

Sorry you have had to say goodbye but how great that Al has him, will be checking in for Smokes updates regularly, as I have always been a fan of him. :)

I think donks was more unimpressed by him than he was by donks! They had a bit of a walking in a circle staring at each other thing, and now Smokey is being totally ignored by donkey who has had his nose put out of joint by the pretty new boy :) Oddly, none of ours have ever been scared of our donkey, but asking them to walk past the neighbour's donkeys is like asking them to walk through acid, it's so unreasonable!

Haha bless him. Smoke looked like a donkey when I first got him, so that's probably why he's settled so well with him lol.

How lovely for Smokey!
BexyBee, he is a credit to you, and it will be so good to follow his progress with Al.
I have to say, if I was younger, I'd have been pm ing you myself - there is so much to like about him.

How wonderful that he's gone to Al - you couldn't want for a better home and lovely for Al that she's got a beautiful boy to, in a small way, make up for her horrible loss of Bee.

You can't go wrong with a Smokey!

I wish smokey and his new family much happiness together. but to you i send ai hug. a big hug. remember you made smokey the boy they wanted to buy. you gave him the time. you "made " that lad. sad time but what a beautiful lad he is. gorgeous x
