Snow

I walked across the snowy yard to the horses this morning, opened the north-facing stable door where the hay is stored to find that it has snowed in. I'm glad we didn't bring the horses in, they wouldn't have been able to move away from the snow. Then I opened the yard door into the east-facing shelter and saw that everything is covered in snow, too. The wind was forecast to be from the south-west! Thank goodness for effective rugs!. Cob's forelock has icicles dangling from it, which she doesn't want me to remove.

Several inches of snow here overnight which has settled so we’re not going anywhere today (can’t get out of our drive). But it was forecast to be snowing heavily all day and it’s now stopped falling. I really can’t see that this warranted an amber warning when we’ve had the same or worse with no warnings at all 🤷‍♀️

In previous years when snow has been forecast there were always a lot of people who got caught out by it. Either they hadn't seen the forecast, or they didn't think it would be too bad. So we would have scenes of people being stuck in their cars, cold & hungry, because they were unprepared. I think I'd rather have the extra warnings than not.

I am off to empty the drip-catching bucket from the pony shed before it overspills into the shavings (again) as it's been peeing down all night and still going.

New Forest. Wet wet wet. Since about 8pm yesterday. Got ponies in. Yard flooded but stables bit higher so they are ok. Thank goodness no snow.

We’ve said exactly the same thing. We’ve had quite a bit, but none of it has been as bad as forecast and we’ve certainly had much worse in the past without yellow or amber warnings.

Rain has now started so hopefully it’ll be gone as quickly as it came.

OK, ok, we got snow last night, couple of cm's 😆 i think originally it said 4° today but now saying 1° so it might be hanging on for a bit
and only last night you were mocking the forecasting. :)

see how grateful you are now to have been warned about your 2 cm's of snow. :D:D

they gave you plenty of warning to get your shovel ready 🤣🤣🤣

Here in West Wales I let the dogs out for a pee at 11 pm and there was a light covering of snow but this morning when I got up it's all gone and not that cold just sloppy slippy everywhere and quite mucky murky.
I think we are classed as coastal as only 10 miles from the coast so we weren't forecast to get much in the way of snow.
Hope everyone else is ok

Very light covering of snow when I looked out about 1am. In the morning it was hissing down and windy. Pony is on full livery about half an hour away. The last mile and a half is very narrow, twisty lane which goes downhill. It always seems to be wet. I haven't been able to get to him for the last couple of days because of ice so was hoping today would be OK. I had to give up because of flooding. On one road there are fields to the side on a hill. There's a metal field gate and the water was pouring onto the road. I think that the land around there is so saturated that it can't take any more rain. Tonight the ice will be back so it will be a skating rink. If only they could be like teenagers and you give them a mobile to keep a check.

We didn't get as much as was forecast and I don't think as much as we had earlier in the winter but we still have a couple of inches. It's been melting all morning but only slowly so we'll see if it's still here this evening! It's absolutely lethal to walk on though so not even going to attempt going anywhere today.

Thursdays 3 inches are still hanging on, icy and annoying. A light dusting of fresh on top but really nowt of note. It's forecast to continue all day and into tomorrow but currently a complete non-event here

I did go up the lane last night and got a bag full of grit from the yellow bin, not going out today but might help tomorrow if it's still cold 🤣

This was outside my house this morning. We’ve had this since lunchtime on New Year’s Day and we only had an additional light dusting today. Only difference the warning has made is that we actually got a gritter up our road today so the road is the best it’s been so far this year.

My concern is t really for the snow, it’s for the ice that is underneath. The ice is lethal today on the yard. However once I got out the yard onto the tracks it wasn’t bad and there was less snow on the hill at the farm than our house - Mary enjoyed a short long rein out today!

Well it stopped about 11:30 ish 15cm--6" deep, the roads are all clear and well gritted but the footpaths aren't and there's a cold wind. The forecast shows it's going to sleet till noon Monday. Doesn't feel like it will thaw at all. Still looks a lot of snow in the sky.

Snow has melted a little at home but not at the yard yet. Pony is hopefully having a good snow bath and will be clean and fluffy when I can get back to see him. Currently I'm off sick with bronchitis.

We’ve had about 4 inches west ireland in the hills and it’s settled. It was yesterday, all night and today. But it’s really slushy snow as much of it was drifting down as sleet.
We’re due rain tomorrow, hopefully to wash all the snow away!

It's thawing here. Stopped snowing before noon, temp rose and it thawed steadily but slowly all afternoon. Then started raining just before dusk. It's forecast to rain here until about 4.00 am, then a mix of wintry showers. We still have too much snow to bother trying to get out. Our usual Sunday evening at a friend's has been cancelled.
I am hoping that Ocado will be able get somewhere near tomorrow morning with my order.

I have had the pleasure of unclogging the drain in the dip in our lane today. A very satisfying job, that, especially when you get a good gluggy noise as the water finds its way through. But I had to wait a bit as the water had been deeper than my wellies.
