So Dissapointed

Oh ok, you mean I was offensive back when I was offended??? I think that's called self defense??
I thought you meant I had previously made a post or replied to a post, unprovoked, and said something tactless or deliberately hurtful... like I said, I will admit I got angry last night, and for that I apologise to anyone I offended.

I don't think being offensive in self-defence is okay. In fact, given that I think the posts preceeding yours were meant in jest, I think you were worse because you deliberately went out to cause offence. its worse to cause offence intentionally than to unwittingly do so. The same post was done a few months back and got far less outraged replies. if you don't feel a post is for you, feel free to ignore it rather than allow it to upset you.

Like I said, I felt it needed to be said and I'm not really bothered what people think of cobs... that isn't my issue.
I agree Martlin, I would, and have apologised for anyone offence caused... but I STILL don't think it's acceptable for people to feel it necessary to just post an entire post to offend/cause trouble...??? I'm baffled as to how anyone thinks that's fine. I must live in a different world.

Shilasdair didn't post the entire thread. Neither did you, or me, or anyone else. It took a whole shed load of posters to make the entire thread.

I'm a cob person, I'm not offended, and I think your horse is rather lovely.

I am, however a bit gobsmacked that you think admin should remove the thread, and in not doing so are somehow sucking up to "the clique".

I read the whole thread but didn't comment.

It was a joke and littlesoph you took it way too seriously and just made yourself look stupid. You also actually just served to make the whole thing more extreme by feeding it and getting so wound up.

No one was seriously saying bad things about cobs. It was just posting stereotypes to get a reaction. Plenty of people with cobs saw the humour. Even if someone genuinely doesn't like cobs, who cares, they don't have to like your horse or a horse similar to yours or one that happens to be of a vaguely similar type.........just so long as they like their own.

Don't take it so personally. If I posted "I hate men with beards" that doesn't mean I actually hate someone elses OH that I have never met just because he has a beard, I just wouldn't want to have him as my own OH, which is a good job I guess........ nothing personal, just an expression of opinion. Even if I go on to say I hate them because they remind me of Rauld Dahl's The Twits and the thought of them getting food in them makes me cringe. It still isn't a personal attack on someone's OH. In fact you'd probably be quite glad that I wasn't sat here coveting your OH!!!!

Anyway I have nothing against beards, it was just an example.

You will find threads if you search that are just the same about other topics, adults riding ponies is a good one. They get all heated and start attacking people with big horses..........

Remember it is just a forum, you don't have to read or get involved and not everything posted is serious.

so saying something along thw lines of all cobs should be sent over to france and eaten (forgive me if that is not the exact quote) is not bad???? i think its appalling anyone could joke about such a sensitive issue. I think you need to go and re read the thread carefully, i know Sophie recieved a personal insult about Freddie which is un acceptable.

Come on now.....it was a JOKE! I tell Zoom all the time that she will go to France to be a sausage if she is a baggage :D

Plus - I haven't read the thread in detail but I do believe Sophie called someone a 'brown-noser' and the someone in question did not retaliate (AND has a cob!!). I personally think that is a more personal insult than joking about someone's horse.

People make jokes, some people find them funny, some people don't. This is really all getting a bit silly. Everyone has made their point. Unless you want something to be done about it (which IMO would be pretty ridiculous) let's all just put this one to bed.

I thought it was a good way to get a good thread going to be honest. Since the move over the forum has been a bit quiet and lacking the strong characters that make this place a fun place to be. I do not agree with all the opinions but then who agrees with everyone all the time. I did not let it yank my chain and took it in the light it was intended. next time it could well be about scatty TB's or whatever ;-)

I rarely get baited into a person against person type posting situation now, I have learnt lessons from when I first started here. I like it too much to argue with one and feel difficult about coming on here.

i havnt been on this forum very long but tbh i was a little shocked at this thread, i understand it was meant to be light hearted but i felt some comments, paticularly glitterfuzz's were pretty offensive and rude, and tbh i wish i hadnt bothered responding as it just gave them what they wanted. i can take a joke, but sometimes the joke can go to far, and just wacking a few smilys on doesnt make it better

I also read it but didn't comment. I am 42 years old and owned a cob when i was 17. Even back then i was made fun of because i owed a "cart horse" And I'm not suprised it still goes on. Even if it was tongue in cheek it was unnecessary, in my opinion. In my case when i was younger it was snobbery and they were looking down there nose at me. But i didn't care i loved my horse and looked after her. Just take it as a bit of fun and move on. If you are a horse lover you should love them all, whatever the breed.

I thought it was all good fun - until the "all cobs should be sent to France to be eaten" remark, that sat badly with me and although it was clearly meant as a joke, it left me appalled in the same manner as a racist joke would.

There was only one poster on that thread that wound me up, but really, leave that person in their ignorance. If that person can't see that what they out was ignorant and narrow-minded, they are the ones poorer for it, not anyone else!

I may joke about TBs all having one leg shorter than the others but really that's all it is (although of course we all know it is TRUE REALLY :p)

I do think calling people names was out of order as well, sorry!

However - cobs rule:D

Soph- Just saying what has already been said but you probably can't see. How do you know nothing was done by admin?

But that's kind of my point... it doesn't matter if none is intended (which actually I disagree with, but anyhow) if offence is taken, it isn't acceptable to carry on offending and then just go 'oh but we were joking'!

This is always a grey area though, thats the problem comedians always find themselves in! I do not think we should refrain from (albeit daft) threads like this, they are created to liven things up. I am sorry you felt offended, but pressing "the button" is a bit of an overreaction in my mind.

I think you need to read more closely!

Have spoken to admin.

Hi Sophie - All equines are fabulous, from a falabella to a shire and every person has a preference and different opinion.

I have been offended too in the past by posts but to participate in an open forum does run the risk of being hurt or offended at times. When I reply or post I try to remember that however innocent my opinion may be it may cause offence to someone on here and I certainly wouldn't mean it to.

Ignore the comments. You appreciate Freddie for what he is (a vision of gorgeousness in my opinion) and thats all that matters.

I think the majority of people replied with their tongue in cheek. Those who posted objectively, fair doos, each to their own. Those who posted to be downright nasty should be ashamed of themselves but I suspect there are underlying contributing factors to their nastiness and they should be pitied. Don't for one minute think we can't work out for ourselves who are the nasty ones on here and tbh its best to ignore them and not rise to the bait.

xxx

I do think this is all getting quite silly, with 3 threads on the forum about it! To the people that have been offended....take a step back, and accept that the op and others on there were joking, albeit distastful in your eyes.
And to the people that found the post last night in good taste, also take a step back and see that offence could of and has been taken.
Everyone has their own opinions, and no one is right, or wrong.

Montyandzoom tbf to soph I did retaliate in a manner of speaking and in future will, as instructed refer all future slurs on my character (or nose :p) to admin :)

OP, I think it is a shame that you feel the need to put Shils on UI.

She does sometimes :p have much to offer ... have you seen the CC's she has done lately. Very, very informative and much can be learned from reading those posts :).

There was only one poster who managed to go beyond base level, which was a shame as up till then, it had been quite amusing. I am hoping that gutterfuzz was joking but tbh, I'm not really sure she/he was, which would be a shame.

There won't be any. :) As you admitted about your post, mine was quite out of character and only posted after a catalogue of other niggling posts, not just from you I may add.

I've never had the pleasure of this knowledge and nor do I feel I am missing out on it. There are plenty other knowledgeable people on here that don't feel the need to wind people up... I do, and will continue to, value the advice of any of them should they choose to take the time to reply to any queries I have.
(This reply was not in any way intended to be rude/disrespectful/hostile, etc. :) )

Are you young per chance?

100% agree with you LittleSoph.

It might have been a bit of fun to most of you but surly you have better things to do? really shows your age, I'm sure if someone posted how ****, TB etc are, your bite.

Jimmy Carr can be taken as incredibly offensive - there is no topic he won't make a joke about and personally I love him... he's one of the funniest people around. But Shilasdair is no Jimmy Carr. If you're going to make jokes that could offend people they've got to be clever, well observed and funny. The thread last night was none of those things.

The way I understood Shilasdair's post was that she was taking the mickey out of people who do think that some kind of breed is, by definition, no good/ugly/not worth bothering with. Of course some people may not have found this funny, but it is the essence of sarcasm to taunt.

I agree with you, I don't like baiting posts like the one you are talking about either. However don't let people upset or offend you. At the end of the day, they don't know you, they don't know your pony/horse so in the great scheme of things they don't matter.

I really need to listen to my own words of wisdom though, because I get enraged when people call shetlands 'sh*tlands' I mean c'mon it's not necessary is it!
