So what has British Eventing done wrong?

Agreed. I'd be pretty annoyed if I had spent a fair whack of time and money qualifying in the belief it would be at Bramham.
I saw the FB post of this announcement and certainly seems to be quite a few posts from people who have done just this and are understandably very disappointed. It would have been good if BE could honour it for those already qualified for this year and let people know aiming to qualify for next year that it will be at the new venue. Moving the goal posts like this seems a risky strategy for BE, especially at a level where there is greater competition for entries with unaff. events.

I don’t like the your should be grateful/thankful we’ve got anything at all vibe from be in the comments.
Yep not great is it. People are very understandably going to be disappointed about it, whichever way its presented. I think it's unrealistic to think people are just going to go 'oh well never mind' when they have put all the work and money into qualifying with that goal in mind.

RW writing that it's on the venue but if the venue have known it's been a loss maker for the last three years, surely this could have been brought up at a much earlier stage.

Annabelle’s I’ll pass on all your thanks as (you’ve not given them) was a bit passive aggressive, people are allowed to be upset first
So condescending. Perhaps genuinely well meant but just not coming across well. And missing the point that people will have invested lots of their own time and money working towards that goal so hearing 'times are hard for business' will be a bit galling I imagine.

Seems Tweseldown is popular as just announced 671 entries for 1st event so balloting to take place.
They are also holding a BE100 3 phase schooling event on the Monday straight after, might be of interest to some.

Only 3 weeks away, how did that happen?! One of mine there on the Sunday so forewarning for everyone it will likely either piss down or snow that day!

Didn’t the first Tweseldown of the year used to be three/four days? With OI/Advanced on the weekdays, or am I imaging things?

Just read the comments on the BE post. Some tone deaf responses there…

Yes up until very recently. But I think they often only ended up running a day or two then abandoning, or cancelling first day(s) to save ground.

So looks like they are running the big boys & girls on Saturday on fresh ground, then the Sunday lot will run ground/weather dependant. Kind of makes sense and at least munstead isn’t too far away after for the PNs to reroute

So sad to lose the kudos of Bramham but the costs of staging must have been high as it was a bare site and everything had to be brought in, I think I read that it needed 100+ competitors and last year there were only 70?
We have no venues within 2hrs 25mins with 80 classes, so with membership, entries and diesel costs each event is going to cost £200+ to do, it’s not possible, to get the 5 MERS would be over 1k
For the first time in 10 years we are not joining, the change from Bramham to Chillington is the final nail.

They said it ran at a loss every year, it shouldn't have taken until now to decide it was now unviable. I find rosie's comments about the infrastructure at burghley having to be up for an extra day so it's unviable confusing, it's all up for longer than an extra day/I can't think of anything that isn't, anyone an idea?

Sorry you're affected chuffy, feel for those who have posted that they've bought tickets for the whole of braham to make a real event of it. .

And have phrased it as 'great news!' even a slight we are really sorry to say that we are unable to run at braham and know you will all be very disappointed, however we are pleased to announce etc etc. .
Telling people it's all the best news ever doesn't make them believe it.

Does that mean ‘great news, BE have known months Bramham aren’t interested, so we were sweating behind the scenes whilst taking your money hoping desperately we could find another venue otherwise we would have to cancel!

BE were trying to address the low entries for champs by widening the qualification criteria. If it was running at a loss then it needs to cost a bit more to enter, surely? I think it is pretty poor on both Bramham and BE's part that it isn’t running there this year. If it needed moving from next year then fine, announce that now. But it is too late for those that went to all that bother last year to qualify.
Chillington is not a championship venue, there are other International event options they could have gone with (including choosing an event near the end of the year to simplify the stupidly elongated qualification process.

I’m really gutted. As soon as they changed the qualifying criteria to 5 MERs I spent a lot of time and money registering and then fitting the runs in to the end of last season.
We’ll still attend the new champs- and actually it will work out cheaper for us as it’s a local event. But I was so excited for the prestige of Bramham.

I think they are working hard behind the scenes but with no 80 at Poplar and Horseheath for the big boys our trips would again involve the Dartford crossing which can easily add an hour to the 2hrs 30 to get to the events, just unwilling to put our pony whose already had a long day through it

What a shame! My good friend has worked really hard to qualify and has planned her work around going to Bramham. She's not sure if she can even make the new date as it will be very difficult for her with work. BE should have subsidised this year and then if it wasn't viable, do a different location for 2026. I'd love to hear from someone at Bramham what negotiations went on or if BE just let it go....
