Following on from the other thread where most of us mentioned the complusive need to do things properly or fear the wrath of YO/DC,whats your OCD?

I have a few,the "worst" offenders beign shavings beds(have to get EVERY scrap out, honestly I think I could spend all day on a bed and still be convinced I had missed a bit :o ),yard sweeping( to quote the senier instructer,"If you think you have nothing to do,you know where the brooms are" ) and the tack room(which must be spotless with numnahs put away not left on the saddles).

It's manes and tails for me too - manes must be neatly pulled, but not uber short and definitely no straw/ shavings in them. And washing bits after every ride. And not letting the horse snatch at tempting undergrowth or trees, my mates horse does this a lot and she makes half hearted laughing attempts to stop it - it drives me potty! Mine is far too polite to even try, so I suppose my other OCD is the horse having good manners.

baldness and cleanliness!

everything must be *show tidy* at all times-ears must be bald, beards are a no no, stubble is not allowed, legs must be fuzz free!
mine get trimmed up every 10 days-2 weeks, whiskers shaved twice a week, and in clipping season re-clipped as soon as a cat hair dares to grow.....this means mums horse gets done every fortnight!!!

tails get washed once or twice a week (or more for the grey), white socks get done every day, they get show shined twice a week and hot clothed (winter) or bathed (summer) at least fortnightly.

i cant stand grease, dirt, sweat or dust!

tack is also kept immaculate, boots washed after each ride etc.

should add-they go out all day, every day and are allowed days without rugs in the summer etc, they just have to get tidied up afterwards!

Sweeping yards........esp now I have moved as the place is so tidy :D

Also Tails HAVE to be brushed out, cannot stand "dreads" and shavings in tails.

This plus i cant stand wonky nosebands or anything on the bridle not being tucked into keepers. Numnahs have to be straight and pulled into the gullet, no wrinkles. Boots have to be on properly in the way they are intended, hate it when the straps are facing the wrong way.
I like horses trimmed, neat and tidy. I had a LW cob so every few weeks she had her legs clipped out (even in winter) face & tail trimmed and mane pulled.
I dont tend to keep everything spotless but everything has its place or box (i have thing for storage solutions i think :o :D) so i know were it is. Makes me twitch if things are not put in exactly the right place. :D
Oh a horses that use you as a rubbing post drives me potty, its even worse when they have tack on!

Yard Swept.
Rug on rug rail neat and tidy - buckles must be on near side.
Buckets cleaned daily
Muck heap thrown up.
clean tack/feed room.

I have more ocd over my horsey stuff than my home/personal stuff.

Twiddling with forelocks and manes to ensure not a stray hair is trapped under the bridle headpiece and forelock bits go into forelock and mane bits go into mane.

Bits and bridles straight straps in keepers - do pony club check of number of fingers under noseband and throatlash etc.

Always pull forelegs forward after girthing up.

HAVE to run hand under neckpiece of rug to ensure mane is smooth over the withers.

I despise saddle shaped numnahs that don't fit the shape of the saddle, in fact I despise saddle shaped numnahs full stop unless they are sheepskin and curl luxuriously around the cantle and saddle flaps. Other wise use a rectangle people!!!!

Stirrup leathers twisted the wrong way not flat against a person's shin.

I insist on cleaning the tack (much to my daughter's delight) - this is my job - I NEED to be the keeper of the tack!!!

OK I am stopping now because of possibility of hyper OCD explosion .

Oh also in the kitchen, there may be needles syringes antibiotics, wormers, bridles, saddles and other assorted horse items strewn around, even bits and stirrup irons in the dishwasher BUT my surfaces have to be wiped and anti bacteria-o-ised at least 17 times a day!!!!!!!!!!

No hope then

Haha some of you have too much time on your hands (sorry no offence if you really have OCD!) My only vice is double/treble checking the stable doors to make sure they are really shut properly, but that's because I am neurotic about my laminitic getting into the feed store...

Bedding down! Beds have to be straight, or perfectly squared off... and you cant stand on it!! I know it'll get trashed the minute my horse goes in but i still have to do it. Bankings have to be all the same height and straight.
I HAVE to make feeds too. My sister comes up to do her pony and help me with the other one, but ive got to make feeds for all 3. Every feed has to be properly worked out by weight, and if its not done in the right order i get annoyed!!
x

With 11 to do and a home and garden to keep clean and tidy too - I don't do OCD - with regard to my NEDS.

However, I do keep my tack clean and wash my numnahs. Feed skips get washed every day and I do keep my muck heap tidy.

Too many to list!!!!!

But a few are:
Haynets MUST be tied up properly and high enough, the owner I help watches as I run round retying the ones he hung up!!
People who constantly trim whiskers off for no reason, (I won't even do it for showing)
Clean swept yards, can't stand **** everywhere, must have uber clean beds, muck heap tidy and all numnahs, boots bridles and bits clean (anything that touches the skin!).

But I'm really struggling this year as we moved fields with only shelters and NO hard standing. With the weather we've had everything has been under water and mud so I can't even get the horses properly clean let alone anything else!!! AAAARRGGHHHHHH!!!!

i don't have any - my horses are right scruff bags and i'm a lazy cow :-)

Lol :D I thought this first off too. But actually, i do have a few things -

I always clean my mare's brushing boots after use as I hate putting dirty boots back on.

She has really long eye whiskers which get stuck under the cheekpieces, so always check they are free'd before riding - I hate it if anyone else tacks her up cos they never sort her eyewhiskers out

and finally, I always adjust other people's bridles if they are wonky  my pet hate is the browband being squiffy and squashing ears.

Muck heaps are my obsession. They have to be thrown back and squared off. I cant stand an untidy muck heap. I will happily play on the muck heap for hours even in rain to get it looking right. I also have a thing for level and straight and perfectly flat shavings beds which is why i refuse to use shavings now. :D Not really OCD about thses but it does really irritate me when people have boots on the wrong legs or tie haynets up incorrectly/too low.

Rolling/wrapping lead ropes. I always used to have each one nicely rolled and would keep redoing it until I had the length just right. English yard policy of just chucking it in the shed has cured me slightly but seeing them still makes me slightly twitchy. :o

when you do a haynet and you tie the knot, turning it around so the knot is facing the wall?

it really, really, really annoys me when people don't turn it around.

Blimey alot of you would despair at me! I ride my mare mostly with unbrushed tail and shavings or mud on her!! :D The vital areas are often the only clean ones!

I am OCD about picking up every last bit of poo from the field, every last dropping! Hate to leave any when I am doing it

I don't own a horse. But one of my main OCD things are my boots. Every time I get back from the yard they get a wash down with soapy water and hosed off to look brand new, and touched up with polish. And as for my new boots, ive polished them seven times so far and i've not even warn them yet. :o

OK haynet hung properly and knots towards the walls.
Bridle hung properly with reins and martingale through the throat lash and noseband around the lot.
horse clean of mud and bedding all over (really hate seeing just the saddle patch cleaned) before being ridden, including mane and tail.
hoofs picked out before horse goes to bed, and before going out of the stable in the morning

Yard must be swept and tidy
Shavings beds have to be perfect- squared off etc and every scrap of poo out!
I have a real thing about bridles-> i cant leave it without the reins through the throat lash and the noseband wrapped round!
Double and triple check stable doors are properly shut- i panic about her escaping!!
Hate it when people don't pull the tail over the tail string thingy on stable rugs etc....
I think im going to stop now ;) :D :D

Oooohhh i forgot to say washing the bit after i've rode. I dont know how people can leave bits dirty and caked in hay/grass etc..., hang them up for it all to dry on and then use it again the next time. Uuughh makes me shudder. Several friends do this & i'm forever shouting at them.

Wow you guys do have a lot of time on your hands! :p

To be honest I am a bit lazy, and as long as she's clean and no mud under tack that's fine with me!

Saying that, lately I have had an obsession with making sure her mane is lying on the right side....she looks much smarter! I always brush it over before I tack up

Too many to list, but just the important ones!
washing bits and sponging off bridles and girths immediately after riding.
never tying leadropes or haynets directly to the bars or rings, this drives me LOOPY. farrier tied 1 of mine to the bar last night and i couldn't undo it fast enough... then when i had a go about it, he admitted he knows of a local horse who broke its neck last week because of this.. :( :( :(
good fencing - cannot cope with saggy wire, missing rails, barbed wire, elec rope anywhere near a horse. just asking for a disaster.
weeding fields, cannot cope with the look of docks.
poo-picking fields 2x daily, i love them to look immaculate.
swept yard. i'm less fussy than previously though as my chooks like scratting about so it's impossible to keep it immaculate...!
dry beds. i don't mind if it's got a bit of hay in it but there mustn't be any urine-y bedding, yeuk. must be swept back properly.
saddle cloths and girths taken off saddle every time and allowed to air properly.
saddles on pole racks or on top of foam, not sitting on those horrible metal saddle racks that leave pressure ridges on the panels.
leaving whiskers on - they need them!
boots not too tight. no elec tape on boots unless it is very carefully applied (no pressure ridges on tendons)
feeling tendons religiously at 10pm at night... the only time things show up, sometimes.
poo picking arena immediately.
levelling arena.
jeez, i am a walking OCD victim...!

Gosh, I have far too many...

Removing every piece of shavings and tangles in tails, I have to do beds and banks a certain way, loose straps always have to be tucked in properly, yard swept etc.

I am OCD about picking up every last bit of poo from the field, every last dropping! Hate to leave any when I am doing it

Ditto this, can't bare a muck filled field!
Also washing boots off after every ride and wiping off bit and girth
Hay nets tied at right height and turned so the knots against the wall
Picking out feet before going in the stable, otherwise he stomps mud clumps everywhere in about 3 seconds flat!
Sweeping out stables everyday and keeping yard tidy
Oh also can't bare a wonky bridle, his browband has to be perfectly in place before setting off!:D

Keepers on bridles are there for a reason. That bugs me lol!
My horses are all hairy and scanky looking, I let nature take its course!
I like tidy yards. Unfortunatley dont have my own :(

I have a few...

Poo picking must be done properly.. no point leaving 2 dropping bits every poo as it just adds up to 3 more by the end of it!
Must at least rinse my bit off after every ride
Cant stand ears or whiskers being chopped. Poor horse, you wouldn't like your finger tips taken away and you end up walking face first into thistles hence they get left on!
In summer one of my mares has to have her tail detangled with spray every day if possible or every time I see her due to college. I like to think it helps her get the flies but she probably just gets fed up of it :D

Shavings bed has to be completely level with every last bit of poo taken out. I can spend ages raking it over till it looks like it has been spirit levelled! And if horse poos in it before I leave, I have to go in and clean it up, lol. Can't bear to leave knowing the stable isn't clean.

Haynets tied up with knots facing the wall and if I'm putting more than one up, they both have to be at the same height.

Double checking that stable doors have been shut properly, worry about them getting out when I'm not there. And if I think about it while I'm driving home, I convince myself I forgot to double check and I end up going back! :(

Always check under the rug to make sure the mane is lying flat, hate the mane looking all wavy because it was rumpled under the rug.

When I first got my grey, I used to spend hours making sure he was sparkly clean before riding out on him. I absolutely refused to ride him if he was dirty. Soon realised that I was wasting valuable riding time, so now I don't mind him having the odd green patch as long as his coat is clean and free from any mud. :)
