Needing to add a few bits at the start of the season, one of which is a couple of extra saddle pads, both for schooling and competing (couple of each, I mean)... I've been browsing and am getting a bit discouraged and confused - things seem to have changed a lot over the last couple of years :o

I have some Nuumed and LeMieux half-lined pads for competing, the LeMieux's were a pain for the binding shrinking in the wash but the Nuumed's have stayed nice :) We also have some plain cotton diamond quilted pads which work well with a separate sheepskin half-pad, so that's all fine.

In addition to the above, we used to have a selection of white PolyPads which we use primarily for the jumping phases, they are easy to wash and even bleach, they stay put under the saddle etc. However, they have gradually disappeared over the years (got lost, stained, shrunk, thrown out because they were declared "unlucky" :D) and need replacing. We also use similar pads at home in dark colours and these also need topping up. Last time I bought some I bought Horseware PolyPad lookee likees and these worked really well. However, I can't find them now. Plus PolyPads seem to have got very complicated and very expensive, and what on earth are these Anky Pads that everyone is on about and are they actually any good?? I didn't think much of the 2012 SS colours but the plain ones didn't look to be shaped in the same way as the seasonal ones (in the dressage deluxe photos anyway...)

Shopping help, please, for an ancient impecunious eventer :o

I have recently become an anky convert, possibly as my mare goes so much better in one! Use the dressage one for jumping as well.. Also anky numnahs are thicker than nuumed- which I also like!

Had some Roma ones that were like poly pads. Also premier equine do a polypad copy- they are only just long enough for a 17.5 inch jumping saddle though.

the newer anky pads have ANKY in big letters under the saddle panel areas - a big no-no for me because of the outlines of the letters. (i read on here that a saddler said the same thing, fwiw, not just me being über-paranoid about uneven pressure...)
anyway, the chuffing things DO move, they're really not 'all that', as they say. i have photos of them having slid back and ruckled up after dr and jumping sessions. just not good enough for something costing £45 ish imho...
top of my list is an Ecogold pad or two. they just have the girth loops along the bottom edge, don't move an inch, and perform brilliantly in pressure testing. but... they're £100 ish. :( :(
i really rate nuu-med, all my things from them (full sheepskin, 1/2 sheepskin lined, cotton high-wither) have all washed brilliantly, lasted brilliantly, never moved.
other than that, everyone seems to be raving about HKM pads, and Inter-Equine has them on 20% off sale iirc...
I have a full prolite saddlepad (whole outline of saddle area is in 1/2 thickness prolite) which is used all the time and washes brilliantly, highly recommend that.
polypads - always good, lots of choice, maybe call and describe what you want?

I'm liking the hkm ones at the moment they are cheap and come in loads of colours in both dressage and jumping cut :). I have the plain small squared ones, a stripy polo pad one and another one thats got a diffrent material on top, there all nice and none of them have moved and I hardly ever use the loops because I dont like them.

My friend has recently bought an Apollo saddle pad (the air filled one) http://www.cameoequestrian.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=23
as it is the only saddle pad her physio recommends. It is very cool, the top bit is like memory foam and molds to the shape of saddle/horses back and the rest of it is like air filled pockets.
She is very impressed with it & have to say I am too as they also look pretty easy to look after! Only problem is they cost £70 and so am currently saving up for one!

Get you with your snazzy words - are you and Tarrsteps on a mission to educate CR with words we have to Google? ;) (I'm not surprised you're impecunious with that flashy new wagon on the drive!)

Nothing much to add as I'm certainly not an expert in this area - generally agree with K about the Anky pads (although I'm not I'm sure I'm as concerned about the lettering under the saddle as it's a very thin rubbery print), and someone else mentioned the Roma pads - cheap and cheerful but do the job for working at home well enough.

Are you and T planning to join the matchy crowd? :p

Ecogold pads are my new want! My Anky ones are lovely and if I use them with my gel pad they don't budge an inch, but I don't live them as much as I used to.
I mainly have Nuumed and Le Mieux ones now, some with sheepskin and some without.
I did see a Mark Todd memory foam one somewhere that looked interesting!

Thanks for all the advice :) The cameo one sounds interesting (although I'm not really in that market, pricewise ;)) but is it just me or does it look far too short in the photo? More "One size doesn't fit any" than "One size fits all" :D I'll have a look at premier equine (use a lot of their other stuff, I think they are brilliant at copying everybody else's good ideas...) and hkm :)

I do not like my premier equine poly pad copy its too thick compared to my poly pad. Its also slightly too long for my liking on a 17hh horse and 18 inch saddle!

Nuu-med are always worth the money. Mine is in perfect condition though I only buy the cheap ones without fluff.

I do like the look of the Ecogold ones but :O at the price!

I have an Ecogold pad (it was a birthday present!) and although I didn't pay for it, it is worth every penny! It never moves, washes and dries brilliantly and horse goes well. I always get asked what it is when out and about!
For everyday I find the half-wool Nuumed the most durable, although the cheaper Jumper's Horse Line imitation is pretty good too

For everday and competitions I use polypads (thinnest versions), so easy, no pressure points from straps and they wash really well. Have some ancient everyday ones. Tried and tested and that's what I tend to stick to.

Link to the Horseware/Rambo ones you may have been meaning http://www.hopevalleysaddlery.co.uk/acatalog/SADLE_PADS.html

Do have one of these too, which I use for everday, Rambo Newmarket Pad (very good value and imo this one is maybe slightly thinner than polypad http://www.hopevalleysaddlery.co.uk/acatalog/Accessories_.html

Thanks v much, all, most helpful :) So perhaps I'll avoid the pe ones, then, after all. Those are the Horseware ones, hw, but they seem to have very low stock, I think they must have been discontinued...

See, For me the half wool Nuumed are lovely pads but I think in the summer with thr amount they sweat, I would have to be washing them every couple of days and 1) I haven't got the time and 2) I find it hard to believe the pads would stNd up to it for long. Hence wanting something plainer.

I suspect I need to go back to plain old PolyPads for my purposes! Although I'm going to buy one of the white suedey HKM similar ones for competition to see how I get on with it. Thanks again :)

I blame you for just becoming £200 poorer by giving me the link to the Hope Valley site ! Having said that I've just ordered 3 rugs, a horse fisrt aid kit for the yard (so I no longer have to keep ferrying my only one between yard and lorry, and finding it is where I want it when I want it !), a Joules hoody, a Horseware jacket, 3 pairs of kingslands socks, 3 pairs of Horseware socks and a horseware saddlecloth. Not a bad sunday evening shopping spree :D!

Whoooops, sorry! I'm not too sorry though as it sounds like you got loads for your money (see I was saving you money really by linking to some bargains!).Soooo tempted to have a spend but I've just been to the tack shop to replace my old, well worn hat and bp today ready for some hunter trials next weekend. Oh and you can never have too many pairs of socks :D

i've found mark todd ones to be really good and generally don't curl up at the binding after a few washes, always come up nice and fit the horses and saddles, same for shires numnahs! come in loads of colours and are cheap and cheerful for the amount of abuse they get! Use lemieux half-pads and think they are amazing!

Equiport for shows, everytime!

Can anyone on here tell me where to buy the eurostar saddle pads? I keep seeing them but can't find them on t'internet

ah ok! thought I was just being a dumb red head as usual ;) thanks for the tip though! I'd never seen that website before!! :)

Reg has mostly Nuu-Med and Le Meiux (he's so spoilt by his jockey!), and it doesn't get washed often just hung out to dry after each ride and then brushed thoroughly to avoid the otherwise constant washing. Don't know if that's really grim or not now!
