I've got a new dog (arrived week before Christmas - he's about a year old) who just won't stop barking at my horses. We've tried everything we can think of, but still he barks at them. I got speaking to a dog trainer the other day and was telling him about it and he said to get a collar which has the citrus spray in it. When he barks, I hit the remote button, saying "no" at the same time, and a small spray hits the dog and makes him stop - DOES IT? I've priced these collars up and they're nearly a hundred pounds so don't want to waste this money unless I know they do work (and hopefully will work with mine).
So has anyone used one and how did you get on with it? I need to get the one with the remote control as the little monkey knows he's doing wrong and always barks when I'm in another stable or the other side of the yard and not close to him. As soon as I go towards him, he runs off knowing he's in the wrong and of course, when I've moved away, he does it again. I don't want to keep locking him up in the house because that's not fair on him, and apart from this barking at the horses, he is absolutely brilliant in every respect. He isn't on his own either, when I'm in the yard he plays with my two guard dogs who live out permanently in the yard and neither of them bark at the horses, it's just him.
If they do work, does anyone know whether I could hire one rather than buy one? Thanks.
