Spring Equinox Weekend Plans

YCBM - get you and your flying changes .. perhaps you could pop over here and show mine too !

Deza just got one absolutely perfect, lovely jump through, on the aid :) I think something has clicked. Perhaps she'll have a word with Ludo out in the field and he'll do the same tomorrow?

I'll go anywhere for a coffee ?
.

Michen if it helps I've lost left lead canter on Amber too. It seems in practising the transitions I failed to see we were on the wrong leg so I know its me , but currently not sure how to fix it.
That was the outcome of last weeks lesson! I have another one this Sunday so at least I'll have someone telling me when I mess up. Its such a shame as she had really good leads and not a bad baby change either. Ah well she learnt it before it will come back when the rider learns it correctly to match :D
Daisy's on fitness camp to get her using her back end and chirovet is booked for 13th April , she seems to be enjoying bussling about for 10-15 mins most days. I'm trying to see if anyone will hack out with us over the weekend as she loves hacking in company.
Since there's a slim chance of being able to get out somewhere in April I should also do some loading practise over the weekend and if tomorrows weather is a glorious as todays I might just have a crack at riding Amber in the outdoor.

Current goals are
Learn to get the correct lead lopes (that's all on me)
Get both girls hacking in company
Get Amber going in the outdoor
Get both loading 100%
Get Daisy fit!

That will keep us busy for a while!

Brilliant, i will take you up on that when the restrictions are over. You may need to do some pilates first ours are a bit wider than yours:D

Good luck all, especially anyone with veterinary issues.

Here is the Baby Spanish's wound after 2 weeks, healing really well and so lucky to have missed the joint capsules.

I'm not really being able to ride much as she gets stressed when I ride my other mare but not when she is in the field, weird animal ?‍♀️.

That looks like a very narrow escape from a serious injury. Very lucky, if you can call an accident lucky.
.

Dolly excelled herself in the getting mucky stakes ovwernight so I gave her a bath. In fact 3 baths. So she looked clean for a change - not that it will last long! My test riding was frustratingly inconsistent so I will try again another day on Toby. I have nothing worth submitting! Dolly was lovely when she was lovely with the occasional little argument. She is really growing up now.

Evidence of clean pony: Even had a white tail!!

Ouch! Looks like you got (relatively) lucky there. Hope it all heals up quickly now

Positive with vet. Sound on flexions, lunge both hard and soft. Vet didn’t think he was moving as free as he could though, so we x rayed feet. A logical step as we are still working to improve them (those that saw them on his purchase photos will know what I mean!) Hind feet need some improving in their angles.

The idiot horse picked up the left lead consistently despite not doing it the day before. Vets presence has healing powers! Anyway, may or may not be related but we are going to reshoe and Re X-ray to check angles but other than that just treat as normal. Will prob just ignore that leg for a bit and come back to it in a couple of weeks.

Just being a silly baby, good news. You could try walk to canter instead of a transition from trot.

Yep a bit disappointing re the hind feet but not surprising. My vet is the main vet who refers to rockley but on this occasion wants to shoe to x ray, I’m a bit nervous re any type of remedial shoeing but I trust him and he’s not your typical “shoe to fix it” vet.

We’ll be hacking. Short hack for the ponies as they’re still transitioning to being without shoes. And a longer hack for the bay boys.

And then I’m toying with getting the jumps out for the bay boys on Sunday. We might have Side Saddle Nationals to go to in Summer, so Solo needs to get his jumping brain back in again for the equitation Jumping. And Pod could do with a refresher on leaving the ground, I’d like to be at him out to see the world a bit this year if we can ?

I haven't partaken for ages but been doing lots of hacking and hopefully do some more this weekend - have a bridleway haven't done before which would like to explore. Did some pole work early doors today which was good. I seem to have a birthday (60 eek!) on Sunday. Have an interesting looking present in the post today so waiting to see what that is (don't get many birthday presents as on whole my friends and I don't really do birthday presents).

Good news Michen!
We’ll just be hacking, the big common has dried up now and I’d like to go up there for a change of scenery but M is always absolutely adamant she should do the whole 7 miles in canter and I don’t think I have the mental energy for that battle. We’ll probably just do the near beach on Saturday and the further beach on Sunday ?.

Hmm, its never just good news is it michen! I guess at least you're getting on top of it and have a plan. Mostly with canter problems I leave them alone and they sort themselves out - hopefully this is one of those and the feet improve for you soon.

Happy birthday for Sunday HP, hope you have a lovely day.
Happy hacking all

uhhh, OH has just bought a ginormous digger. I predict next weekend will probably be digging out the old bits of fallen down wall, scrub and other general detritus ahead of a fencing marathon.... best get all my other jobs sorted this week as he will be AWOL all weekend pimping it
I read that initially as OH had bought an enormous ginger!

Yesterday Rose had her third ridden walk but first without any sedation. Eek! S sat quietly with relaxed breath and heavy seat, I held my breath for the whole 25 minutes! One explosion but thankfully she didn't follow it up. We're going to give a tiny bit of sedalin today as when she's so explosive her walk goes tight and cramped. So glad not to be aboard but equally can hardly bear to watch either. Any clever thoughts? She's also getting three hand walks each day but vet doesn't want her turned out yet.

Nice hack down the beach today to work on a bigger canter - it’s hard in the school at the yard as it’s only 20x40 so there’s not enough room to get to the stage where she finds her balance before we have to turn. I’m shattered now though, I put my stirrups right up and did loads in 2 point so I’ll hurt tomorrow ?.

I also had a revelation related to an ongoing problem - for the last 18 months I’ve always felt like the saddle was slipping to the right. When you actually look at it it isn’t moving at all, I just felt like it was. It happened with a few different saddles so thought it was a hind lameness, vet said absolutely not that, we did a bute trial and that also made no difference. No back unevenness that the horse physio could pick up on. Both of my saddles were checked to make sure the trees weren’t twisted, reflockd, new stirrup leathers in case it was them etc. Other riders also didn’t feel it!
I discovered today that if I bridge my reins in my right hand, and keep that hand where it would be if the reins weren’t bridged, the feeling completely goes away. So I am very obviously the problem!! I’m left handed and get really bad pain down the left trapezius muscle while riding which also disappears when I do the bridging thing. Not quite sure how to fix it though!

I had a lovely ride this evening, there was a GIANT bonfire inferno above the school while I was tacking up so I went as slowly as I could doing my jobs, but it was still about 10ft tall and fizzing and popping away when there was nothing left to do but ride. Kira thought she'd try being a drama llama about it but got on side pretty fast, the sounds pinging off the boarding on the school walls sounded like lunge whips cracking which was weird, but she managed to put that out of her mind ;)

She had a course of cartrophen over the last month and I have no idea whether it's done anything but she feels amazing, she's straightened out after her holiday and is like a blooming steam train powering along, just needs to let me put her balance back on her hind legs a bit more and then we'll be ready for lessons, HURRAH, been a long old winter.

The embers still burning away after we had finished are in the background :p

We had a lovely time at our new off road place. I've not been anywhere at all since lockdown apart from Tom Beech. Charlie knew something was going on and was so happy to see his trailer he pretty much ran up the ramp. Bit shouty when we arrived but he generally is til work starts when we go places.
Straight off the track and in to an open field. His back was a bit up and hes not been ridden in a field since October probably, and we were out with horses he doesn't know. So I thought it best to let them know I had literally no idea what he might do...
He stopped for a pee ? after which his back dropped and he felt very rideable if a bit on his toes and jolly. We trotted cantered and a bit of extended canter/gallop work. Hes great in that even when he's strong once he's in walk he settles and just walks - doesn't lose his head at all. All in all it was fab and we'll definitely be making good use of it over the next few months

Ah well, never actually made it onto a horse this weekend. Had my second covid vaccine and it's knocked me down badly, having to work night shift while feeling terrible was great fun! I managed to do a bit of core strengthening ground work with the broken TB though, she's a sweetie.

It's also been raining constantly, we are just south of some catastrophic and life threatening flooding (just over a year after the same regions had catastrophic fires, you couldn't make this stuff up... ). It's forecast to rain more this week too, I hope it clears up enough to do some schooling before the competition next weekend. Being too wet to ride pales in comparison to those who have lost their horses to the raging rivers the last few days though :(

Everything that's happened in Australia in the last 14 months or so sounds so tough- I hope you are able to stay safe!

Finished with a lovely hack on a well behaved Bog. He got a complete bollocking the other day after I’d had enough of his ridiculous behaviour out hacking. Usually he’s best ignored and just sit quietly but he was escalating things so much. I haven’t had to truly tell him off in years and boy did he come back at me over it!

Anyway he’s been absolutely sweet as a nut ever since and hasn’t swung his arse around once ? Far more pleasant and relaxing.

I think I’ve been letting him get away with murder because it’s him! Spoilt pony.

I had a successful weekend with everyone- Elana jumped really well on Friday afternoon over the arena xc course, again, just building on the course jumping we've been working hard at. She went for a long fittening hack yesterday and then I got the actual xc jumps out of winter hibernation today and put them out in the field so we had a ball zooming up the hill- she was going sky high and feeling very jolly, I had to sit tight!

The 4 years olds did ride and lead hacks yesterday and short sessions in the arena today- I rode Nova and he's really getting the hang of things now. I gave him a bit of a sharp kick when he didn’t go off a nudge and he did consider sending me into orbit but thankfully he's polite enough not to! The mule is being ridden in the arena tomorrow- top priority being installing steering

I've managed to trap a nerve in my neck which is causing pain and numbness down my arm and hand ? so no riding B or walking the tiny taliban for me. Felt better for a while yesterday so poo picked and got some hay from hay container/store. Which obviously just made it worse by tea time. We managed to re house the turkeys in a bigger pen. And today both the boys had a good groom. Robin still needs to learn that standing still makes both our lives so much easier but we're getting there.
