I have been adding to feed and mixing in. I have just read something saying sprinkle on top and now I think about it vet said to add on top. So mix it in or sprinkle on top (would he even eat it is just sprinkled on)?
Why on earth would it make any difference once he's chewed his food, swallowed it, and got his stomach churning it about?
Mixed in going in fine. I did wonder if bucket would get set flying in his usual mark of disgust but happily notIt doesn't matter, just however horse is most willing to eat it is fine.
You are supposed to sprinkle bute on top just before feeding rather than mix into a wet feed... has a coating on it. I don't know about sucralfate but might be the same.
I’m sure it dosnt but in my panicked state ANYTHING that might be the clue to why he isn’t getting better is being over analysed and better over analysed!! If someone said stand on you head and hum here come the clowns I would ask how many times and how loud!
From what I remember if you leave it in the wet feed too long the outer coating breaks down. I used to sprinkle on top then give the bucket a quick shake just before it was given to the horse.
I had to feed it on its own on an empty stomach. It was a fine white powder and I had to mix with a little water and syringe it into mouth. That was done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Then had to wait half an hour before giving gastroguard. Wait anither half hour, then feed.
yeah, mine is the opposite way round to MW, i have to give GG on an empty tum, sucralfate 45 mins later and 30 mins after that I can give hay. I'm just following the instructions given (which differ to what is printed on the sucralfate label!!)Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of conflicting views on how to feed ulcer meds. Confusing for owners. I just trust what my vet tells me- it’s so easy to start over thinking it all.?
I used to feed sucralfate twice a day and GG once a day in the morning. I followed the instructions from the vet to the letter and she felt better literally in a few days (though they did keep coming back but that's a different matter)Im new to the Ulcer club and am reading so any different ways to feed the Gastrogard and Sufralcate. Ive been told 3 times a day?? Give the GG on an empty stomach, wait an hour and give feed with Sufralcate in it, then turn out etc but if riding later on, to give it with a small feed 30 mins before. The tubs going down fast! It seems most are told to give it once a day.
