Hope all those of you doing stressage today have done well. MrsM, fantastic that you are driving again! Must be a huge relief. And Tikino, I do hope things improve soon and that Toby and your dog make a full recovery. Ellie looks a little bemused by the stable
I had a lovely ride this morning, we were a little worried at first as the two horses are both a little backwards and neither likes to be in front! The sun seemed to perk them up though so we had great fun.
Also, found a lovely cottage to rent yesterday near Pangbourne, only problem is the owner is away until Tuesday so I have to wait and see if we can get it
. I ambushed a friendly horse rider and asked what the riding is like round there - she said it is fantastic and recommended a livery yard. So excited, hopefully next year I can get a horse of my own (though I think we'll have to get two or my OH will be far too jealous).
We went to the clearance sale and got a few bargains. I got a new Ariat show shirt for £15, some flexi stirrups for £20 and nice blouson jacket for £30! Sister/neice got the same jackets, hw rug for Molly for £70, new brushing boots, saddlecloth and some other bits and pieces - all v pleased with our bargains!
Have just been out with neice on Molly - we went for a quick ride round the village - she and the BGL were good - I think Molly is in luuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrve!!
tikino - hugs and everything crossed for all of you poorly ones - your luck is due for a change!
Didn't have the best of days - I'm so used to Genie being consistently great that when it doesn't all go to plan I notice it more. However I was THRILLED with our dressage considering.... Will go post report in PG with pics now!
Hello all had busy day as it was my son,s 22nd birthday and he is a spoilt brat still. Then did my ponies, Amigo behaved after my threat with a tin of chappie there was really no need to kick the shettie even if it was more threat than kick, little bugsy is blind in one eye and does not always see trouble coming and i,m very protective of him.
Hokey, I'm back armed with chocolate *holds out tin*
It wasn't a major diaster allbeit, but I am totally 100% drained!
First off, spent an hour and a half trying to load my friends horse who was rearing, charging about , falling off the top of the ramp (
) and eventually managed to get his foot stuck through a palette. He then continued to gallop around our little car park area, getting himself cornered between my car and a fence where I then had to free the poor buggar. He then didn't go to the dressage of course. All the while, I couldn't get Darcy out of his stable to have a lead in hand for an hour as he was banned from going out
So, when I could finally get him out of the box for 9.45 , or 10.45 in a sence, he was well ...fresh
So it was doomed to fail from the start.
So, we made the 5 minute walk down to the trailer area and calmly stand outside it while my friends putting in the haynet / opening up the sides etc. I took one step forward. Just one. Darcy then continued to go up, up aand away. He bolted flat out across a concrete/ gravel road up to the top of the yard where there could've been nails, glass and god knows what else where he then continued to lash out and squeal at two nearby horses that had fortunatley distracted him for long enough for me to catch him.
I turn around, and go again. He's walking calmly "seemingly," to have got it out of his system. I approach said trailer and have barely got a firm "Walk on," out of my mouth and he goes up, up and REALLY goes away. Bolted flat out up said track and out of sight
So there goes me, running around the farm, thinking he's got himself lost in 360 acres worth of land
Then I hear his girlfriend squealing, so leg it to find him dancing around in the gateway to their field. Until said girlfriend - turns on her heels and bolts up the length of her field. Darcy continues to race her up a completley trenched path to the road
He fortunatley stopped before he hit it only to race the whole way back across that god awful track, fly past me and leap into a ploughed field. It rained all last night, he sunk! Anywho, catch him whilst he's struggling around in this bog and walk him calmly back up to the yard. He's all in one piece (minus all 4 travel boots) so friend says we should try again or he's got the one over. So, we approach the trailer.
Have barely got within two yards and Darcy goes up, up aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand away. Right back down to the field. Across the concrete, gravel, mud, slime. How he stayed upright is beyond me. So this time I walk up to him and he looks at me, dripping in sweat and I could see he had admited defeat
So, grabbed him , frog marched him back to the trailer and with two rears ..he went in.
Not the most ideal thing to do but as he was sound, not lame/sorry we gave him a quick warm up in walk/ trot and then continued with my test . He was a good boy then , very warn out poor sod and quite unbalanced so we got 55% but still came 6th. Loaded like a pro on the way home .
He's chilled out in the field since the afternoon and came in his normal self, just very very tired. Was feeling quite guilty for going ahead and riding him
Now just feeling completley shattered for having ran about 5 miles to get said beast in the flipping trailer, wrestling with a cob to stop him from chopping his leg off in a pallette and riding my test. Hence chocolate, and essay!
I think that you didn't give in, your dressage may not have been the best ( hardly surprising after all that) but what an achievement!!!
You loaded him, didn't put up with it, and hell yes, you rode him after all that, but he wasn't hurt or injured and you showed him he can't get away with it!!
Well done DL..a huge glass of wine and a whole box of chocolates all to yourself for that!!
Thanks F_s - She did really enjoy herself and now really wants riding lessons, her mum will kill me for 'getting her into it'
DL - Bloody hell that sounds like a very eventful morning
I think you did the right things riding him though, better then him getting away with it! What were you trying to load him with? Just a head collar or something a bit stronger?
For what it worth I agree with the others - you did the right thing riding him. It sounds like he got wound up being in so long and probably hearing the shenanigans of the cob he though it was his turn!!
Large glass of wine
and a smacked bottom for Darcy!
HC - just seen the piccies and put I think you have lost Pixie!!
