Swelling's on the smallest of cuts!!

My mare and pony can have cuts,grazes,and they hardly seem to worry them clean up and cream applied generally does the trick...my yearling gets a cut and his whole area swells up, yesterday has a tiny surface cut on his cannon this morning its swelled from hock to fetlock...no heat no lameness just puffy..this isnt the only time he has had tiny cuts and swelled because of it..are some horses just more sensitive than others??
 
Some just seem super sensitive! Oh mare can have the smallest graze or cut ever and gets lameness, big leg, heat - the works! My mare tipped herself fully over when having a play in the field (she is a bit of a special girl!) and skinned the whole of the inside of her hind leg - no heat or swelling or lameness at all! By all rights she should have been hopping lame, but other than rather dented pride she was fine.
 
as he is still a baby its probably because hi immune system isnt up to full speed yet so 'over-reacts' to things to get rid of the infection. he'll probably get better as he gets older but yes, some horses are more sensitive anyway!
 
My previous horse was like this, rest his soul....

Any cut, even a small one, on his lower leg and I knew next day it would be as you describe- swollen /puffy. Not infected though.

Vets always used to say just keep it clean, hose the leg and turn him out to walk it off.

It would go down in a day or so.....

Yes more than likely!! at least he's just had his tet/flu booster :)

Already seems alot better this afternoon...I know it cant be bothering him too much "he lets me near it :rolleyes:" the one time he got a not great puncture wound he would not let me near the leg let alone the wound:D
